Keeping in view the emerging role of a recently discovered phytohormone, strigolactones (GR24), experiments were carried-out to explore whether GR24 could alleviate the nastiest impact of salinity on spring sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.). Two experiments, the first as pre-sowing and second as foliar spray were held during the months of February to May, in the year 2015 and 2016 in the Botanical Garden of the University of Agricuture, Faisalabad. In the first experiment, achenes of sunflower hybrids (FH-593 and FH-596) were primed in GR24 solutions i.e. 0, 0.001, 0.01, 0.1 mg L-1 for 16 hours. Two salt stress levels, 0 mM (Control) and 120 mM NaCl was applied to twenty four days old plants. Salt stress considerably reduced growth, leaf water relations, pigments, gas exchange attributes, mineral nutrients and yield parameters. GR24 treated achenes showed improvement in growth, water use efficiency and yield attributes except 100 achene weight and achene number per plant. Salt stress augmented the secondary metabolites, antioxidants and compatible solutes for defensive purpose, ROS and sodium accretion as stress marker. Pre-achene treatment with GR24 further accumulated carotenoid, antioxidants, organic osmolytes, anthocyanin, hydrogen peroxide, and shoot potassium and calcium in both hybrids of sunflower under non-saline and saline environment. During second experiment, 36 days old plants of sunflower were sprayed with GR24 (0, 0.001, 0.01, 0.1 mg L-1). Salt stress reduced growth attributes, gas exchange parameters and photosynthetic pigments significantly. GR24 enhanced growth and gas exchange attributes except stomatal conductance and net CO2 assimilation rate, activities of non-enzymatic as well as enzymatic antioxidants, secondary metabolites and osmolytes, GR24 foliar application enhanced glutathione reductase and peroxidase, ascorbic acid, soluble phenolics, organic osmolytes, ROS, secondary metabolites, free proline, total soluble sugars, glycinebetaine, saponin, tannin, free amino acids. GR24 treatment as foliar application only enhanced shoot potassium and calcium. GR24 spray accelerated achene yield and head diameter only. Sunflower hybrid FH-596 performance was better than FH-593.

Many western scholars have tried to interpret the Holy Qur’an into other languages of the world. William Montgomery Watt and Robert Spencer are included in the list of those commentators of the Qur’an who have presented their Quranic commentary in English language. But while interpreting the verses of the Holy Qur’an about the life, character and teachings of the Holy Prophet both the scholars have fabricated the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the interpretation of both western writers about the verses of Sūrah al-Aḥzāb in which the necessary information about the marriage of Prophet Muhammad with Hazrat Zainab has been discussed. Through the text analysis method and comparative and analytical approach, this article has raised some of the errors and propaganda elements found in the commentaries of both the Western scholars. The article proves that the writings of Western scholars like this need to be refined and scrutinized carefully in maintaining the sanctity of Islam and respecting the rights of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This paper concludes that all such allegations are either based on fabricated historical reports or false interpretations and misunderstanding of the facts.

Leadership Behavior and Employee Job Satisfaction: A Study of Path Goal Theory in Telecom Sector

This study was designed to test the path-goal theory of leadership in Pakistan telecom (mobile) industry. The study explored relationship between leadership behaviors (directive, supportive, participative and achievement-oriented) of middle managers and job satisfaction of subordinates. Path-goal leadership model attempts to explain the impact of leader behavior on the subordinate motivation, satisfaction and performance. Leadership behaviors (directive, supportive, participative and achievement-oriented) of managers were measured through leader behavior items. Subordinates’ satisfaction was measured by the job descriptive index. While job expectancy I and job expectancy II were measured through job expectancy scale. The four path-goal leader behaviors, seven moderating variables and nine subordinates’ outcomes were measured through the instrument comprising of 189 items. Further, the results of study were obtained by testing 28 hypotheses. The analysis suggested that the moderating variables influence preference for a particular type of leadership behavior (by the subordinate) and leader behavior has an impact on subordinate satisfaction, job expectancy (I&II) and acceptance of leader. Leader behavior affects satisfaction directly. Further subordinate satisfaction has a direct effect on the subordinate performance which is further influenced by the task demand. There was no difference between male and female respondents regarding any dependent measure. Moreover, the direction of association between variables is not known and it is difficult to predict accurately without further research, which is replicated and revalidated. Due to time constraints, the research has several limitations. Recommendations are made for future study, particularly replication in the public and private sectors to ensure validity which will help in determining causal relationship between leader behavior and subordinate satisfaction.
