Three species of Schoenoplectus (Reichenb.) Palla from three different sites were grown in non-aerated water conditions. Four levels of NaCl 0, 100, 200 and 300 mM were maintained in the solution medium to investigate the response of morpho-anatomical and physiological adaptations under salinity stress. S. triqueter showed optimal growth at 100 mM NaCl level and better photosynthetic response to salt stress than that recorded in other species. S. triqueter was more efficient in controlling stomatal movement. Schoenoplectus triqueter was much better adapted to salt stress than the other two Schoenoplectus species (Schoenoplectus lacustris and Schoenoplectus juncoides). Schoenoplectus triqueter also developed some structural and functional adaptive mechanisms for their survival under adverse conditions, which were retention of growth and development under high salinities, accumulation of organic osmolytes, retention of membrane integrity, retention of osmotic balance, constrained uptake of harmful ions, minimizing of water loss, lignification of parenchymatous region, succulence in terms of increased storing tissue, and reduced stomatal density. Salinity tolerance in S. lacustris were related to high accumulation of total soluble sugars and low relative membrane permeability. Root area was significantly higher in this species, having large vascular bundles and large aerenchymatous cavities. In stem, epidermal cell area and aerenchymatous cavity area was the maximum. Bracts were with large epidermal cell area, large cortical cell area and large air spaces. Moreover, stomatal area was significantly lower in this species. Leaf lamina thickness and epidermal cell area was also the maximum. Specific function features in S. juncoides for salinity tolerance were high water use efficiency, high uptake of K+ and Ca2+, and accumulation of total soluble carbohydrates. Only prominent anatomical feature in this species was significantly larger vascular bundles in leaves.

Islam is a complete code of life. It provides injunctions for every field of life. In economics it not only provides us details in finance and trade but also provides us information about "Halal & Haram". Needless to emphasize that economy plays an important role in the development of nation and financial matters cannot be ignored if development is a target. According to Islamic teachings all earnings must be lawful. Generally, new ways are being adopted to increase and generate wealth. Islam encourages to get more wealth and profit but no illegal means should be adopted for that. All kinds of fraud and unfair means while doing business must be avoided. Islam lays stress on using lawful and valid means in all economic activities. Scholars of Sub-continent have different opinions about the prevailing prize money schemes. Some scholars consider them lawful regarding some aspects but majority term them unlawful.

Inheritance of Mungbean Yellow Mosaic Disease Mymd Resistance in Mungbean

Mungbean yellow mosaic disease, transmitted by whitefly, is most damaging disease of mungbean in all of its growing areas. Genetic resistance is a viable and environment friendly solution, for which resistance source is prerequisite. Total 83 mungbean accessions were evaluated under protected and unprotected field conditions following split plot design. Infection % age and disease severity based scoring scales were compared for their discrimination potential for screening. Disease severity based scoring scale was found superior to infection % age based scale because it categorized genotypes into five groups while only two groups were generated by later. Infection % age ranged from 33.33 to 100% while disease severity index varied from 10 to 75%. Only one genotype (NM 6-68-2) was found resistant (D.I. 10%) while three accessions NM 57, NM 1-32-1, NCM 254-3 were highly susceptible. Disease severity showed maximum correlation with chlorophyll-a reduction followed by 100 seed weight. Path analysis revealed that direct effect of disease on yield reduction was negligible but it caused yield reduction via reduced harvest index and 100 seed weight. Resistance to MYMD is governed by two major genes with additive nature. There was variability in genetic components of different traits under both field conditions.
