This thesis deals with the development of a sophisticated multiple access communication technique, Multicarrier Interleave Division Multiple Access (MC-IDMA) and improve- ments in Orthogonal Frequency Division Mulltiplexing-Space Division Multiple Access (OFDM-SDMA) for uplink transmissions. Although different in names both theses tech- niques endeavour to describe a wide range of upcoming communication algorithms and to incorporate three key features that will be common to the next generation communication systems: multiple access capability, resistance to multipath fading and high bandwidth efficiency. The performance of the both systems is demonstrated in the presence of channel impairments. OFDM is almost completely immune to multipath fading effects and IDMA has mul- tiuser capability. MC-IDMA attempts to combine these features, so that we can have Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) free higher data rates for multiple users simultaneously. MC-IDMA uses chip level interleavers as the only means of user separation and de- votes the entire bandwidth expansion to low rate Forward Error Correcting codes (FEC) which provide additional coding gain not present in conventional Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) or Multicarrier-Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) systems. An iterative Chip-by-Chip (CBC) multiuser detection algorithm is exploited to sup- press the channel fading and Multiple Access Interference (MAI). To further improve the performance, adaptive subchannel algorithm is used to transmit information only on good conditioned subchannels. To support high order modulations, Multicode MC- IDMA is proposed which can enhance the data rate at the expense of slightly higher power to achieve the same BER. A simplification in a channel estimation algorithm for MC-IDMA system is suggested and the concept of pilot chips is introduced which is a feasible approach because MC-IDMA systems use chip level interleavers and CBC de- tection algorithm. A noval channel estimation algorithm is presented which reduces the joint estimation into several single user estimation problems and increases throughput drastically saving a lot of transmission overhead. The complexity is analyzed and Bit viiError Rate (BER) is computed to depict the performance of MC-IDMA system. The re- sults show that the MC-IDMA system outperforms the conventional MC-CDMA system by supporting a large number of users with enhanced bit error rate performance. Next, a multiple antenna aided, Minimum Bit Error Rate (MBER) based Bell Lab- oratories Layered Space Time (MBER-BLAST) algorithm for OFDM-SDMA communi- cation is presented which overcomes the limitations of detectors when the number of users exceed the number of receiver antennas. A Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed for finding the optimum weight vectors for MBER Multiuser De- tector (MUD). PSO is well suited for physically realizable, real-time applications, where low complexity and fast convergence is of absolute importance. Maximum Likelihood (ML) detection algorithm is optimal but it uses exhaustive search and is prohibitively complex. The proposed algorithm outperforms the MBER detector and is capable of achieving performance similar to that attained by ML detector at a significantly lower complexity especially under high user loads. Results show that OFDM-SDMA when used with proposed algorithms promise substantially improved performance and can support throughputs as high as 11 bits/per chip at a BER of 10 −4 . It supports a large number of users by exploiting the capacity advantages of multiple antenna systems in rich scattering environments and offers a good performance-complexity trade-off.

Utilization of Fad Distribution in South Buton Waters As a Fishing App by Purse Sein Fishermen in Kadatua District, Selatan Buton Regency

Fish Aggregating Devices (FAD's) have long been used by fishermen in South Buton Regency. This study aims to determine the utilization of FAD distribution as a fishing aid by purse sein vessels in the waters of Kadatua District, South Buton Regency. This study aims to determine the utilization of FAD distribution as a fishing tool by purse sein vessels in Kadatua District, South Buton Regency. Data collection methods include FAD point data taken from GPS (Global Position System) fishermen and dominant catch data from purse sein fishermen. The results of the study obtained data on the distribution of FADs in Kadatua District spread between a distance of 0-12 miles, during the study the coordinates of FADs were obtained as many as 79 coordinate points owned by fishermen in Kadatua District. FADs used by purse sein fishermen to carry out fishing operations have 24 FAD points, which are spread over a distance of 0 – 12 miles. In April the distribution of FADs used as fishing aids by purse sein vessels was at a distance of ± 0 – 12 miles, while in May and June FADs used as fishing aids were at a distance of ± 2 – 12 miles. The dominant fish catch data for purse sein fishermen is 690 kg in April, 525 kg in May and 735 kg in June. The dominant catch during the study was dominated by scad fish (Decapterus spp). The level of effectiveness of the dominant catch of purse sein fishermen is highest at a distance of 4-12 miles with a total catch of 1,070 kg of the total catch of 1,950 kg.

The Influence of Corporate Social Responsibility on Organizational Performance: Moderating Effect of Responsible Leadership and Corporate Governance

The mixed and inconsistent findings on corporate social responsibility and organizational performance (CSR-OP) relationship have exposed the universal approach as tenuous and questionable. Scholars argued that all CSR initiatives of all the organizations, all the time cannot be rewarded and they suggested contingency approach to determine under which conditions CSR could come along with benefits. Researchers suggested the use of moderating variables to control the ambiguity surrounding CSR-OP relationship. Stakeholder theory underpins this research. This study tested the direct effect of aggregate and segregated CSR on organization’s financial and non-financial performance. It also investigated the moderating effects of responsible leadership and corporate governance on the relationship between CSR and organization’s financial and non-financial performance. Data in this study were collected from managers of 361 public listed companies in manufacturing sector of Pakistan and 179 valid responses were analyzed. This study used SEM path analysis to test the hypotheses. Results regarding the direct effects of aggregate and segregated CSR revealed that CSR significantly influenced organization’s financial and non-financial performance. The results revealed that CSR towards employees has a stronger impact on organization’s financial and non-financial performance. Moreover, findings reflected that responsible leadership and corporate governance both significantly moderated organization’s financial and non-financial performance. However, good corporate governance strengthened CSR-OP relationship whereas responsible leadership weakened this association. This research theoretically contributes to CSR stream of research. This study has strong implications for business organizations, their managers and other disparate stakeholders. In summary, findings of the study suggest that stakeholder perspective of CSR is a win-win situation for organizations and their disparate stakeholders.
