Combining simple organic substrates through single step multicomponent reactions to build up complex compounds with potential therapeutic and synthetic applications has enormously been evolved in the previous decades. Adopting this strategy, a library of trisubstituted propargylamines was synthesized by the condensation of aldehydes, amines and terminal alkynes. Zn(II) triflate was found to be the catalyst of choice amongst a number of many Lewis acids tested during optimization. Toluene was proved to be best solvent to carry out this reaction. After finding best reaction conditions a variety of aldehydes, amines and alkynes were utilized to furnish the tri-substituted propargylamines. In case of aldehydes; tert-butyraldehyde, iso-butyraldehyde, nbutyraldehyde and benzaldehydes were successfully incorporated while in case of amines, not only primary but also secondary and tertiary amines even t-butyl amine were well tolerated under developed conditions. Variety of alkynes both aromatic (with electron withdrawing such as Cl, Br, and F, as well as electron donating groups such as CH3 and OCH3) and aliphatic worked well to deliver expected products in good yields. In continuation of broadening the scope of this methodology and as an application of aldehyde, amine and alkyne condensation, incorporation of carbazole-3-formaldehyde was carried out. After optimization of various catalysts, reaction conditions and solvents it was found that CuBr is the most efficient catalyst for condensation of Nalkylcarbazole- 3-carbaldehyde, amines and alkynes in acetonitrile or under solvent free conditions. Under the optimized conditions N-octyl, N-butyl and N-ethyl carbazole-3-carbaldehyde were condensed with a variety of amines and alkynes to deliver a range of carbazolyl decorated propargylamines. Regarding primary aliphatic amines; n-propalamine, npentylamine and benzalamine were successfully incorporated. In case of anilines both bearing electron withdrawing as well as electron donating groups such as 3-Me, 4-Me, 4- Et, 4-Cl, 4-Br, 4-OMe and 4-OH were utilized. Only in case of 4-methoxyaniline instead of expected product, a side product was obtained with elimination of aniline group. Similarly a range of pheneylacetylenes both with electron withdrawing as well as electron iii donating groups were well tolerated. The structures of all new compounds were determined and confirmed by spectroscopic methods. Further, one-pot reaction of N-alkylcarbazole-3-carbaldehydes with amines and thioglycolic acid (TGA) was carried out, which resulted in the formation of selectively 2- carbazolyl-1,3-thiazolidin-5-ones. The scope of reaction was tested by utilizing various N-substituted carbazolaldehyde, primary and secondary amines which were successfully condensed with TGA to deliver expected carbazolylthiazolidinones in good to moderate yield. Finally, one-pot three-component reaction involving aldimines, alkynes and thiocyanates to densely-functionalized 5-benzylidene thiazolidin-2-imines was also discovered. Although reaction could not beoptimized starting from aldehydes, amines and alkynes but starting from preformed imines, alkynes and thioisocyanates, the expected thiazolidins could be achieved under optimized conditions. For this reaction zinc chloride proved to be catalyst of choice from all other metal salts which were tested. Dimethylformamide was best solvent and under optimized conditions a variety of Schiff bases and terminal alkynes were successfully reacted with various phenyl isothiocyanates to furnish corresponding thiazolidin-2-imines in excellent yields. The possibility of formation of 4-benzylidine imidazolidine-2-thiones in this reaction was ruled out by 13C-NMR spectroscopy and finally by single crystal analysis. While exploring the substrate scope with respect to N-substituents of Schiff bases, it was realized that primary amines such as n-propyl, n-pentyl and N-benzyl group were well tolerated while N-ter-butyl group did not afford the expected product. In case of alkynes both with electron donating as well as electron withdrawing groups such as 2-methyl, 4- methyl, 4-ethyl, 4-methoxy, 4-chloro, 4-bromo and 4-fluoro-2-methyl showed good reactivity. In case of isothiocyanates it was observed that those with electron withdrawing groups, for instance 4-chloro and 4-fluoro furnished corresponding thiazolidin-2-imines with high yield as compare to those bearing mild electron donating groups such as 2-Me, 4-Me, 4-Et and strong electron donating group such as 4-methoxy isothiocyanate. The structures of all new compounds were determined and confirmed by spectroscopic methods.

In "Fath-ur-Rehman Fi Ithbāt-e-Madhab al-Naumān", Shaykh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehalvi collected Ahadith supporting the religion and sect of Imam Abu Hanifa (R.A) and described the differences of the jurists and gave preference to Hanafi School of thought. He has proved through this book that Imam’s sect is in accordance with the Sahih Ahadith and while removing the accusations leveled against Imam Abu Hanifa, he declared that these are the issues on which the contrariness of the hadith was accused but irony of the situation is that Abu Hanifa (R.A) is following the hadith while other jurists explicitly base their intellect and conjecture and the style of the book shows that Abu Hanifa (R.A) is the absolute doer of hadith and Imam Shafi (R.A) uses conjecture and opinion. Moreover, Author speaks on the authenticity of the hadiths which not only support him but also give comfort and consolation to the opposing party. This great book of Hazrat Shaykh Muhaddith (R.A) is unique and unique in its importance, infrequency, style of reasoning, research issues, preference of religion, and hadiths supporting Hazrat Imam Azam Abu Hanifa (R.A) which opens new chapters of coming research. In the said article, an analytical study of his book "Fath-ur-Rehman fi Asbat-e-Madhhab-e-Noman" will be presented which will expose the reality of Imam Abu Hanifa's accusation of being against the hadith and this great effort of Sheikh Abdul Haq will also be brought to light.

Building a Theoretical Model of Socially Sustainable Entrepreneurship Through Comparative Case Analysis of Ethnic Entrepreneurial Communities

Review of existing literature suggests that entrepreneurs in modern context often strive for economic sustainability at the expense of social sustainability in societies they operate. The review also suggests that there are alternative contexts, like the context of ethnic communities, where achieving social sustainability is also a primary goal of entrepreneurs. How social sustainability is balanced with economic sustainability within the context of ethnic entrepreneurial communities has not been sufficiently theorized in existing literature. So the aim of this study is to develop a theoretical model grounded in data to explain how this balance can be achieved through socially sustainable entrepreneurship as practiced in ethnic entrepreneurial communities. To achieve this aim, the study needed data from ethnic entrepreneurial communities which have balanced their economic sustainability with social sustainability for several generations. Three ethnic entrepreneurial communities were selected for data collection namely Memon, Delhi Saudagaran and Chinioti which appeared to have such characteristics. Eisenhardt’s research strategy (ERS) for theory building through comparative case analysis was employed to build cases from the data taken from the three communities and to perform a cross-case comparison to build a theoretical model. The data was taken in the form of in-depth interviews with respondents from each community, notes from direct observation and documentary sources published by each community. Data from each community was interpreted using the social constructivist paradigm. The interpretation of data was utilized to develop three case studies, one for each community. The three cases were then analyzed through a process of constant comparison which involved comparing data within and in between cases. The comparison helped in developing categories of codified data. Each category was further refined into a construct. The constructs and their relationships which were common in the three cases were used to build the theoretical model of socially sustainable entrepreneurship. The model was finally evaluated for external validity by reassessing the proposed constructs and their relationships in the light of existing literature. The case study developed for each community describes how historically evolved community and family cultures influence and are influenced by the process of starting, maintaining and sustaining a business using community and family resources. The cases also describe the emerging reasons for social disintegration as experienced by the three communities. The common patterns emerging from the comparison of the cases were used to build a theoretical Model of Socially Sustainable Entrepreneurship (MSSE) which highlights the possible sociocultural contexts, influencers, strategies and socio-economic consequences of socially sustainable entrepreneurship. The model proposes how economic, social and spiritual interdependence between members of the family and community can contribute towards a balance between social and economic sustainability of Muslim-ethnic entrepreneurial communities. The model can aid policymakers and community leaders to pursue economic sustainability without compromising the social sustainability of their entrepreneurial communities. The results can also contribute towards enhancing the socio-economic sustainability of communities similar to the ones studied for this dissertation. Business schools can also use the results to better explain the socially sustainable form of entrepreneurship to their students as an alternative to entrepreneurial activity in the modern free-market. Students and new entrepreneurs can use the results to strengthen the interdependence between their venture, family and community by striving for the social and economic well-being of all stakeholders as explained in the model. Future research will test the model for statistical generalizability within the three communities. The model once tested may also benefit communities other than the ones studied in this research.
