Wilt disease, affecting mango trees (Mangifera indica L.), is recognized as sudden death of mango. This epidemic was reported first time in Punjab (Muzafargarh), Pakistan in 1995. High disease severity is recorded in nearly all mango producing areas of Punjab and Sindh ranging from 2-5% and 5-10%, respectively. Though the incidence of the disease has been significantly lowered due to the mass awareness and development project and programs of Mango sudden death (MSD) disease throughout the country. Work on the pathogen causing MSD is essentially concluded but the relationship of Ceratocystis with MSD and the species involved is still not well studied in Pakistan. The present study focused on geographical distribution, pathological and genetic characterization of Ceratocystis sp. associated with MSD, for this a survey was done for the collection of samples during the year 2011-12. From different mango growing areas of Punjab and Sindh forty-five Ceratocystis species isolates were obtained. Pathogenicity of these isolates were done on potato tubers, fresh mango leaves (detached), fresh green mango twigs (detaced) and white chunsa mango seedlings. All isolates incited symptoms with varying amount of virulence in contrast to control. More prominent lesions were witnessed on potato tubers (0.439-7.53 cm2) followed by mango seedlings (0.84-4.39 cm2). Deoxyribose nucleic acid (DNA) from all 45 isolates was effectively extracted by using phenol chloroform method. Comparison of DNA sequence using internal transcribed spacer (ITS), beta tubulin (BT) gene, and Transcription Elongation Factor (TEF) gene primers confirmed that Pakistan isolates were dissimilar from Ceratocystis fimbriata and Ceratocystis omanensis reported previously. The fungus made one of intensely supported sub-clades through phylogenetic tree. On the basis of morphological characteristics and assessment of DNA sequences for three gene regions, it was concluded that the Ceratocystis species related with MSD in Pakistan is Ceratocystis manginecans.

Al-Imam Nooh Ibne Abi Maryam Aljam'a is one of the well known worldly personality among the International Scholars of Science of Hadith. Unluckily, his positive personality (Ta'deel) in the Science of chain of Narrators (Ilm-e-Asmaur Rijal wa See'r) had been hidden from the sights of worldly known scholars since centuries. This research contribution is based on manuscript of Al-Istighna fee Asma el Mashooreen Bilkuna by Hafiz Ibne Abdul Bar Al-Qurtubi Al-Maliki (death: 460 hijri) found from Mufti Ilahi Bakhsh Library Kandhala India، despite of the Jarah of other scholars. The manuscript is written by Al-Hafiz Abi Abdullah Muhammad bin Abil Fatah Al-Ba'li Alhanbali (Teacher and Mentor of Al-Hafiz Al-Zahabi) (death: 709 hijri). This contribution tries to explore the personality of the great scholar as well as shower a spot light on the critic of scholars and highlight the reality of this Imam.

Human Capital and Economic Growth: Evidence from Selected Developing Countries

Despite the crucial role of human capital in the theoretical growth models, the empirical growth literature has yet to develop a consensus on the nature of relationship between human capital and economic growth. This study has been conducted to investigate whether human capital in terms of education and health indicators has a direct impact on output growth or indirect effect through total factor productivity growth. The study also attempts to explore the linear as well as non linear human capital-growth linkages and sensitivity of the human capital estimates to different econometric estimation techniques. The study has been conducted on a sample of selected countries covering all developing regions of the world. Our findings reveal that human capital has a well established role in accelerating growth through both its ‘level effects’ and ‘rate effects’. The results are not sensitive to the definition of the education variable. The impact of human capital components on both output growth and TFP growth are positive regardless of the estimation technique employed. However, the significance of the coefficients of human capital components changes with the estimation technique. The parametric models in general do not give sufficient evidence for non linearity in the human capital-growth relationship. The semi parametric model, on the other hand, points out the existence of the non linear link, yet it does not indicate the exact form of the non linear connection.
