Although the yield potential of spring maize is much higher than autumn maize, high temperature at reproductive stage is one of the main problems in spring especially in late sown conditions. Early sowing of the crop seems an ideal solution to escape the crop from heat spell but low temperature causes poor emergence and seedling establishment. Under these temperature extremes, osmotic and oxidative stresses are major reasons of crop damage. Exogenous application of various physiological strategies like antioxidants, osmoprotectants and plant hormones may lessen the damage. Initially in first two experiments, three levels of ascorbic acid, salicylic acid and hydrogen peroxide (0, 20 and 40 mg L-1) were optimized as seed priming or foliar application strategies under net house condition using single maize hybrid (Hi Swan-9697). The optimization was done on the basis of emergence and seedling vigor in priming experiment, 20 mg L-1 was selected as an optimized level all these compounds as an effective priming strategy. Seed primed with AsA, SA and H2O2 resulted in faster emergence, better, more and uniform stands. Seed priming with AsA, SA and H2O2 improved seedling vigor by increasing leaf Chl, nutrient content and better defense system with stimulating activities of SOD, CAT and POD in seedling. Foliar application of AsA, SA and H2O2 improved seedling vigor by increasing chlorophyll, nutrient contents and improving antioxidant defense system. Both levels of solutions of foliarly applied AsA, SA and H2O2 are equally effective for improving seedling vigor so the lower level of (20 mg L-1) was selected. The field experiment was conducted to explore the role of AsA, SA and H2O2 as seed priming agent and foliar application at three sowing dates i.e early (1st February), optimum (22nd February) and late (15th March). Different priming treatment enhanced rapid emergence but both priming and foliar application strategies caused earlier tasselling, silking and physiological maturity at each sowing dates. Improving antioxidants and nutrient homeostasis enhanced chlorophyll which improved growth and development under early and late stress conditions. It is suggested that all physiological strategies increased grain yield associated with improvement in number of grain and size of grain at each sowing dates by improved antioxidants defense system and nutrient homeostasis which reduce oxidative damages and improving stress tolerance under late sown condition of spring maize.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a lethal disease and developing countries are struggling to overcome this health hazard especially in rural areas and faced globally. Therefore, serious measures are required to reduce this global health hazard. Millary and pulmonary are the most common types of tuberculosis occurring globally. X-ray is the preliminary method to detect tuberculosis; however, the diagnosis is quite often subject to human error. In contrast, the chances of curing Tuberculosis depend on its timely and accurate diagnosis. Therefore, an intelligent machine learning algorithm is developed in this study to assist the clinician in an accurate TB identification in x-ray images. The proposed method pre-processes the X-ray image, enhances its quality and extracts the features of each class which are further passed on to a Deep Convolutional Neural Network-based design for the X-ray image classification, followed by the identification of the tuberculosis type i.e. Millary, Cavitary, Healthy. The classification accuracy for the developed method resulted in 88% and 89% for millary and cavitary TB diseases in x ray images.
This study is an attempt to register the post 9/11 literary response to the terrorists'' attacks on WTC and Pentagon on September 11, 2001.It aims to explore the aftermath of 9/11 and investigate how successfully contemporary writers have managed to portray the impact of these events on both American and Non-American societies. The research design for this study is qualitative and the resources used are novels written in the aftermath of 9/11 by both Muslim and Non-Muslim American writers, including The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid; Once in a Promised Land by Laila Halaby; Falling Man by Don DeLillo and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. The events of 9/11 engendered trauma throughout the world especially in the US, therefore trauma and terrorism are core topics in most post 9/11 novels. In order to answer my research questions, I have used the theoretical apparatus of Jean Baudrillard, the French social theorist, although my main theorist is Kali Tal, a literary trauma theorist, who considers the responses to traumatic experience, including cognitive chaos and the possible division of consciousness, as an inherent characteristic of traumatic experience and memory. For this purpose I have used Fairclough’s Discourse Analysis to look at the writings of American writers as representatives of fiction produced in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. This research focuses on the reactions and responses of American writers, taking as its premise that since Americans are the direct victims of the attacks, American writers have written more than any other nation. The focus of these writings is death, loss, trauma, mourning and violence and most of the survivors are injured and shell-shocked as a result of the death of a loved one. The focus is on how the different characters learn to deal with personal tragedy in the face of a national loss and the similarities and differences in the treatment given to the subject by Muslim and Non-Muslim writers.
