Cotton is an important commercial crop of global importance. Cotton is known as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy. Cotton leaf curl virus disease (CLCuVD) is a serious threat to the successful cotton production and is transmitted by whitefly Bemisia tabaci Gennadius under field conditions. A disease and vector predictive model based on 5 years epidemiological factors was developed and validated based on 2 years epidemiological factors for the prediction of CLCuVD and its vector. A significant (P<0.05) but negative correlation was observed between maximum temperature and CLCuVD. The value of the coefficient of correlation was observed in the following order: 2006 (r=0.80*) < 2004 (r=0.79*) < 2005 (r=0.76*) <2002 (r=0.61*) and < 2003 (r=0.60*). Except 2006, the relationship of CLCuVD with rainfall was found non- significant during the subsequent years (r < 0.47). Wind velocity was found non- significant but negatively correlated with CLCuVD. Whitefly had significant and positive correlation with CLCuVD during all the five years. The relative humidity contributed significantly in the build up of whitefly population during 2005 only (r=0.60). During rest of the years relative humidity did play a prominent role in the spread of this vector as was evident from the value of correlation coefficient 0.34 ≤ r ≤ 0.47. The wind velocity did not contributed as effectively as compared to other variables. None of the screened varieties/advanced lines was found to be immune against cotton leaf curl virus disease and varied greatly in response to disease incidence during both the years (2007-08). Only three varieties/advanced lines (NIBGE-2, PB-899, NIAB- 884) were found to be highly resistant against CLCuVD. Eight cultivars (BH-162, NIAB- 824, CIM-496, MJ-7, CIM- 446, CIM-473, VH-148, Alseemi hybrid) were found to be resistant. Six varieties/advanced lines (NIAB-111, PB- 897, FH-2925, CIM-438, CIM-497, FH-115) were found moderately resistant. Five cultivars (FH-900, CIM-707, CIM-506, FH-901, CIM-498,) were observed to be moderately susceptible and five varieties/advanced lines (PB-843, FH-1000, BH-163, CIM-482, CIM-443) exhibited susceptible response. Five varieties/advanced lines (CIM-534, FH-2000, FH-2006, MNH-732, S-12) were found to be highly susceptible against cotton leaf curl disease, respectively. All the treatments reduced whitefly population and CLCuVD incidence significantly compared to untreated control. Azadirachta indica (Neem) extract was the most active to manage the B. tabaci population. Salicylic acid was at number second and Eucalyptus globules (Sufaida) was at number third whereas Allium sativum (Garlic) and Calotropics procera (Ak, Akund) were at number four and fifth respectively in managing the B. tabaci and CLCuVD. Aloe babadensis (Aloe) and Datura stramonium (Datura) were found less effective compared to other treatments.

Implementation of Work Discipline and Application of Employee Sanctions In PD. BPR Rokan Hulu

This study was conducted at BPR PD Rokan Hulu, utilizing a qualitative descriptive analysis based on interviews. The primary objective was to investigate the disciplinary practices and the application of punishment among employees within the institution. The findings reveal that to enhance disciplinary diversity, BPR PD Rokan Hulu has established robust regulations and enforced sanctions effectively. This initiative demonstrates BPR PD Rokan Hulu's commitment to promoting diversity through structured training programs and the implementation of punitive measures. Despite these efforts, the study identified that there are still instances of indiscipline among some employees. Specific violations observed include habitual tardiness, absenteeism without prior approval from supervisors, and unexplained departures during official work hours. These actions not only contravene the company's established regulations but also undermine the overall disciplinary framework intended to foster a productive and efficient work environment. The research highlights the significance of continuous monitoring and reinforcement of disciplinary measures to ensure adherence to organizational norms and standards. Furthermore, it suggests that while the implementation of rules and sanctions is vital, BPR PD Rokan Hulu could benefit from exploring additional strategies to address the root causes of indiscipline. This could include more personalized training sessions, enhanced communication channels between employees and management, and the development of a more inclusive company culture that encourages respect for regulations. In conclusion, while BPR PD Rokan Hulu has made commendable strides in enforcing discipline and applying necessary sanctions, there is room for improvement. Pomegranate Peel Based Novel Food Product

Pomegranate peel (PoP) is a valuable waste of juice processing industry and is a rich source of biomolecules of immense health significance. Plentiful research based evidences on ethnopharmacological and nutraceutical properties of PoP calls for the attention of food scientists in designing food products with innate ability to improve quality of life. This study focuses on exploring nutritional and nutraceutical properties of PoP, hydro-alcoholic extracts and the bagasse as ingredient of choice in developing novel food product. An indigenous cultivar of pomegranate “Alipuri” was procured from the local farm of Southern Punjab and pomegranate peel hydro-alcoholic extracts (PoPx) were derived from the peel fraction of the fruit. Nutritional and biological properties of PoP revealed the waste as a potential source of compounds bearing significant antimicrobial, antioxidant and antiulcer activities. Hydro-alcoholic extracts of PoP revealed significantly (p<0.05) higher concentration of phenolics i.e. 427.19 mgGAE/g and radicals scavenging activities as measured by DPPH and FRAP assays. Hydro-alcoholic extracts of PoP inhibited urease activity by 97.9% and IC50 for different extracts was recorded ~44.4 μM. PoP extracts presented significant inhibitory properties against gram positive and negative microorganisms including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Aspergillus niger. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of PoPx was recorded between 0.25–0.89 mg/mL. With reference to its features to be utilized as a food ingredient, PoP and the peel bagasse (PM) were incorporated in baked good for the development of nutritionally enriched and biologically stable cookies. The study revealed PoP supplementation to impart significant (p<0.05) improvement in dietary fibers (0.32–1.96 g/100 g), total phenols (90.7–161.9mg GAE/100 g) and inorganic residues (0.53–0.76 g/100 g) of cookies. Cookies carrying highest levels of PoP (7.5%), PoPx (1.0%) and PM (7.5%) were recorded with more than 50% radical scavenging activity whereas, products phenolics pool significantly inhibited oxidative and microbiological deterioration of the finished good during three months storage period. Cookies supplemented with PoP were recorded to present organoleptically acceptable quality at 6.0% supplementation while least difference in sensorial profile was noticed among control and cookies developed with 1.0% PoPx. Toxicity assessment of PoPx at higher doses i.e. 1000ppm presented non-lethal response in brine shrimps larvae. Safety assessment of PoP, PoPx and PM revealed non-significant (p>0.05) 8 effect of supplementation on various blood indices among normal healthy rats model. Lipid modulatory role of PoP and its extracts was witnessed convincingly indicating PoP and the extracts as viable ingredient in improving high density lipoprotein and lowering low density lipoprotein concentration. The study delineates no abnormal rise or fall in hematological parameters thereby suggesting a nontoxic response of PoP and its various fractions. The findings of this research propose PoP as a valuable waste of food processing industry that could further be exploited in designing nourishing recipes bearing disease preventive and ameliorative features.
