Globally, there is a trend towards privatization due to poor performance of public extension services. Private agricultural extension system is considered demand-driven, cost-effective with efficient and quality service. In Pakistan, Privatization of agricultural extension system was started in 1988 when the then Government of Pakistan established a commission to look into the causes of poor performance of agricultural sector and suggest ways to improve its performance. The commission suggested the involvement of the private sector in reshaping agricultural extension. It was a major policy shift, in which the supply of inputs was shifted to private sector from public sector. Currently, 320 pesticide companies (private sector) are working in the Punjab. These companies not only provide pesticide products to the farmers through dealers but also provide advisory services to them. Privatization experiences in the world had mixed results. In some cases it has positive results while in other location the results are discouraging. The present study was conducted to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for private extension system in the Pakistani context where the literature is either silent or scanty about the performance of private sector extension. A cross-sectional research design was used for the study. The study was carried out in the Punjab province which comprises five cropping zones, out of which, three zones were selected purposively. Multistage proportionate sampling technique was used for the selection of respondents. A sample of 408 respondents was selected (136 from each zone) by using simple random sampling technique. Sample size was determined by using Fitzgibbon table (Fitzgibbon & Lynn, 1987). Similarly, a sample of 60 respondents from EFS of Syngenta (Pesticide Company) were also selected randomly by using the same table. The data were collected through personal interviews with the help of validated research instrument. The data, thus collected were analyzed by using computer software (i.e. SPSS). The results showed that a diagnostic skill of the EFS was strength of the system. Attributes of the EFS i.e. politeness and good conduct with farmers were also rated as strengths. Group discussion method was rated as strength of the system. However, subject matter coverage, target beneficiaries, extension approach and functions, communication, competencies of EFS of private extension found to be the weakness of the system. Limited opportunities existed for the demand of advisory services for specific crops at specific location and fee-based private extension system in the country. Overall it poses threat for the system. There were great discrepancies observed between the perceptions of the farmers and the EFS about the same questions. According to the EFS, the system has more strengths as compared to weaknesses. It is suggested that the steps should be taken to mitigate the weaknesses and ensure the strengths of the system. Similarly, threats should be converted into opportunities.

Growth in Islamic Economy

A major proof viewed by the Islamic universe today is the proof of re-making and reorganizing the economy in such a way seen as similar to the motivation of Sharia’h work. Money-related new development is one of the topics that in a general sense is termed as a science that offers a technique to show the science of monetary angles. Nevertheless, the standard technique, which has been assembled, is being considered for dissatisfaction in dealing with the issues of the Ummah, for example, despair, backwardness in human resources (HR), and achievement in proper position and life, and even a matter of natural change. Sadly, those conditions are found overwhelmingly in the Muslim world, where they have essentially manifested and represented in Muslim life. Moreover, it seems that the uniqueness of the Muslim world has been challenging, that is, it is typically rich in asset but still weak and poor. As for the path, in Muslim society, there is an ignorance of the achievements of motivation. Thus, there is no possible norm to find the emergence of different methodologies within the Islamic structure, surprisingly in the area of money-related to unforeseen development.

Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Evaluation of Substituted Pyrazoles

In this dissertation, conditions were optimized to synthesize novel and more potent pyrazole derivatives from celecoxib, a well-known drug used to treat inflammation. The aim was to find future candidates that can be used in replacement with celecoxib because of the potential side effects of this drug. Three synthetic routes were established using easily available raw materials and easy to produce derivatives having high purity as well as experimental yield. In the first part of this study, 4-methyl group of celecoxib pharmacophore (3) was selectively oxidized. The product 4-{1-[4-(aminosulfonyl)phenyl]-3-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazol-5-yl}benzoic acid (306) was esterified, followed by its hadrazinolysis to get 4-[5-(4-hydrazinocarbonyl-phenyl)-3-trifluoromethyl-pyrazol-1-yl]-benzenesulfonamide (308) which was further reacted with different reagents to produce the target pyrazoles. Substituted pyrazoles 309-326 were prepared by condensation of carbohydrazide (308) with different aromatic aldehydes. Keeping in view the potential biological activities of 1,2,4-triaozle and different pyarozles, the synergism of both the heterocyclic moieties in a single nucleus was introduced in the second part of this study. Compound 308 was converted to 4-(5-(4-(4-amino-5-mercapto-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)phenyl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)benzenesulfonamide (327) by reaction with carbon disulphide in alkaline ethanol followed by its hydrazinolysis, the product obtained was subsequently reacted with a number of benzaldehyde derivatives to afford the title compounds 328-340. In the third part of this study, chalcones prepared from substituted acetophenone and benzaldehyde derivatives were allowed to react with carbohydrazide (308) in acidified ethanol to produce the compounds 341-352. All the compounds were characterized by FT-IR, 1HNMR, mass and elemental analyses along with the single crystal X-ray crystallography of few compounds. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory, ulcerogenic, anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant activities. Most of the compounds were found active against inflammation when Paw Oedema Model on albino Wistar rats. Few of the compounds (313, 314, 322, 329-331, 333-340) showed even greater anti-inflammation effect than the reference drug celecoxib along with no ulcerogenic effect. Similarly, many of these compounds were observed to be good anti-bacterial when tested against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Many of the tested compounds also showed good anti-oxidant activity when compared with standard butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) with few of them showing greater anti-oxidant potential than BHT.
