In current study, two eggplant cultivars Sultan F1 (drought sensitive) and Janak F1 (drought tolerant) were used for the experimentation. The plants were grown in pots filled with equally weighed soil. In one experiment, seeds of both eggplant cultivars were primed for 16 hours with α-tocopherol (0, Water, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mM) whereas in another experiment seeds were sown without priming treatments. Drought stress (100 % field capacity and 50% field capacity) was applied after 20 days of sowing. In second experiment, foliar application of α-tocopherol (0, Water, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mM) was applied after 20 days of drought application. Drought stress adversely affected the both eggplant cultivars however, α-tocopherol application through seed priming and foliar application significantly increased growth attributes, photosynthetic pigment levels in both eggplant cultivars. Exogenous 0.5 and 1 mM of α-tocopherol levels were much more effective in increasing shoot, root fresh and dry weight, root and shoot lengths, chlorophyll, carotenoids, lycopene, No. of fruits/plant and fruit yield/plant in both eggplant cultivars. Irrespective of mode of application increased oxidants such as contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in eggplant. The exogenous α-tocopherol increased antioxidants such as content of ascorbic acid (AsA), total free proline and activities of enzymatic (peroxidase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase) antioxidants in both eggplant cultivars. The shoot and root mineral ion contents (Na+, K+ and Ca2+) increased with α-tocopherol exogenous application in eggplant cultivars. Shoot potassium and calcium content significantly increased by 0.5 and 1 mM α-tocopherol applied as seed priming and as foliar spray at vegetative stage. In conclusion, 0.5 and 1 mM levels were more effective in increasing the level of yield and growth along with decreasing the alleviate effect of drought stress in eggplant.

Monosodium Glutamate is the scientific name of Chinese salt, which also called Ajinomoto. Monosodium Glutamate was first discovered by the Japanese chemist Ikeda Kibunae in 1908. The MSG was firstly derived from seaweed. Later on MSG was got from meat, gluten, and vegetables etc. It can be derived from Najas ul ‘ain and Gher Najas ul ‘ain things. If it was got from Najas ul ‘ain, then there is a question about MSG that is it halal (permissible/ lawful) or haram (non-permissible/unlawful). This research in this article is concluded that if the culture of MSG is halal or the proper Istihalah has been done in Najas; MSG will be halal (permissible/ lawful). However, where no such details are available about the culture of MSG, it should be avoid, although it cannot be declared haram as per Islamic Jurisprudence rules.

The Impact of Part-Time Employment on the Academic Performance of Government Secondary School Students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The study was designed to inspect the impact of part-time employment on the academic performance of government secondary school students in district Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The core objectives of the study were to look into its causes, impact and to find out the number of students doing part-time employment. This descriptive study aimed to investigate the impact of part-time employment on the academic performance of students at secondary level. It was conducted in 106 high and higher secondary schools of district Peshawar. The part-time employed 378 students and concerned 320 teachers were taken from those schools as sample. Questionnaires comprising fifty two questions were designed to get the opinions of both teachers and students. The data was tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. The collected data was examined with the help of the software SPSS version16 by using percentages, Phi and Cramer’s V. The analysis of data revealed that fathers of the part-time employed students were doing blue collar jobs; some of them were, either jobless, died, or ill. Most of the students started their paid part-time employment at adolescence as apprentices with only one day leave in a week for fulfillment of their economic needs and for continuation of their studies. Students believed that they felt tired, and was absent minded during classes as well as they remained absent from their classes, and the major cause of all of them was part-time employment. Most of the students had no time for completing easily their class room assignments and for participating in cocurricular activities. Majority of the teachers responded that poverty was the main cause of doing part-time employment at secondary level; it developed sense of deprivation, carelessness and inferiority complex etc. in students. Majority of the teachers suggested as alternatives that government should provide funds, introduce new institutes for providing vocational/technical trainings and philanthropist of the society should be involved to help such students. A number of recommendations were made to improve the current situation.
