Sugarcane shows reduced crop stand under relatively suboptimal conditions, the main reason for this is sensitivity of bud tissue to temperature fluctuations and salinity at sowing time. The aim of these studies was to explore the physiological, developmental and molecular changes occurring in the immature sugarcane buds under heat, cold and salt stresses, and possible role of proline and glycinebetaine in mitigating the changes in a time course manner during sprouting of nodal buds. All the stresses reduced bud fresh and dry weight, led to the generation of H 2 O 2 , reduced the tissue levels of K + and Ca 2+ , but enhanced the synthesis of osmolytes in a time course manner. Heat stress mainly produced oxidative damage and acted as a dehydrative force, whereas cold stress caused oxidative stress and slowed down the physiological activities. Salinity was the most damaging of all the stresses. The main effects of salinity were the accumulation of Na + and Cl - , reduced tissue contents of Ca 2+ and K + and enhanced synthesis of H 2 O 2 in the developing sugarcane bud. As for histological changes, all the stresses delayed and reduced the formation of new bud leaves and their expansion, which was mainly because of reduction in the number and area of mesophyll cells and poor development of vascular bundles. The pretreatment of bud chips with proline and GB effectively reduced stress effects being more effective under heat stress followed by cold stress and the least under salinity stress. As revealed from the correlation studies, although pretreatment with proline and GB appeared to have no direct role in stress tolerance, main effects were the reduced generation of H 2 O 2 , improvement in the K + and Ca 2+ nutrition and further enhancement in the levels of free proline, GB and soluble sugars under heat and cold stress. Under salt stress, the pretreatment reduced Na + and Cl - , in addition to the observed effects under heat and cold stresses. Histological changes revealed that the pretreatment with osmoprotectants increased the mesophyll cell area leading to expansion in the bud leaves and led the development of elaborated vascular tissues. Of the two, GB was more effective than proline for all stress treatments but for different measured variables. Detailed studies on the molecular and metabolic responses indicated the enhanced expression of Asn, dehydrins, LEA and GAPDH genes, stronger accumulation of proline and alanine followed by glycine, glutamic viiiacid and 5-oxo-proline. Among the sugars, sucrose followed by diethylene glycol, fructose, glucose and glycerol, and nucleic acids, adenosine and uracil, as well as organic acids, aconitate, chlorogenate, ribonate_put, quinate, pipecolate, erythronate, GABA, glucoronate, gluconate, glucarate, glucoranate and octadecanoate showed accumulation at all temperature treatments and time periods. HCA and LVL revealed that out of 108 metabolites, chlorogenate, putrescine, octadecanoate, fructose, proline, glycine, sucrose, quinate, trans-aconitate, guanine, GABA and ethanolamine showed greater accumulation under high temperature. In crux, albeit all stresses deterred the transition of bud from immature to mature state, the salinity was the most damaging. In most cases, improvement produced by proline was greater than GB. Heat stress revealed distinct patterns of gene expression and metabolites synthesis. The correlation data showed that pretreatment with the osmoprotectants improved bud growth under stress regimes; the roles are indirect in improved Ca 2+ and K + nutrition and reduced production of H 2 O 2 . Nevertheless, these findings suggest that in low to moderately hot, cool and saline areas sugarcane bud sprouting can be improved by pretreatment of bud chips with the 20 mM levels of proline and GB and requisite crop stand can be achieved

Role of Tehrīk-E- Mujahedin in Promotion of Two Nation Theory: An Analysis of Freedom Movement in the Light of Islamic Teachings

It is a historical fact that wherever the Muslims went; they were considered as a distinct community from others due to their strong Islamic identity, which is called Two Nation Theory. Muslims, due to this Islamic Ideology, conquered Subcontinent and ruled over there more than one millennium. They successfully ruled the Indian Subcontinent till the Two Nation Theory was alive in their minds. When Mughal Emperor, Akbar tried to demolish this Theory by introducing his new, fake, fabricated and heretical religion, named as “Dīn-e-Akbari" or “Dīn-i-Ilāhī”. The renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Mujaddid Alif Sānī challenged this so-called innovated religion. After that Shāh WalīUllāh Muḥaddith Dehlavī worked against this innovative and heretical religion. After it, the first organized movement was established by Shāh Abdul‘Azīz, the son of Shāh WalīUllāh in 1820 AD. This Movement played a dynamic role in Muslim's Renaissance in the Subcontinent. It also played a vital role to promote Two Nation Theory and major Muslim movements got inspiration from it. Although, this movement was crushed at Bālākōt in 1831 AD, but it left comprehensive impacts across the Muslim world, especially, in Indian Subcontinent. This movement kindled a flame of freedom in the Muslims of Subcontinent. Historically, this Movement has a practical participation in the Independence movement of Pakistan. As we see its role at the time of Referendum in the North-Western Frontier Province in 1947. It is an irrefutable historical fact that the leadership of Pakistan’s Movement, especially, Allāma Muhammad Iqbāl, was much influenced by Sayyīd Shahīd’s Movement. Therefore, this study presents a missing link between the Pakistan Freedom Movement and the Two Nation Theory. This study reflects historical and analytical approaches and its application frequently. In this study effort are made to explore the historical link between the Two Nation Theory and Tehrīk e Mujahedeen as well as its dynamic role during the period of Freedom Movement of Pakistan in Indian Subcontinent.

Epidemiology, Haematology and Thyerapy of Large Strongyles Infestation in Thoroughbred Horses

Our study consists of three parts. Part -1 deals with epidemiological study in which one year field survey of 2400 thoroughbred horses at Sahiwal, Lahore, Sargodha and Mandi Baha-ud-Din districts were surveyed revealing the prevalence of strongylosis as 40.83 %, 38.17 %, 43.33 %, and 39.83 % respectively. This study has drawn a compelling evidence that the disease is prevalent thoroughout Punjab province with remarkable overall prevalence of 40.54 %. We further explored that hot and humid environment favours its prevalence, age and sex of the horses has no effect on the prevalence and it is maximum in summer while lowest in winter. This study also demonstrates 79.58 % prevalence of internal parasitism among thoroughbred horses overall at Punjab province. Part -2 deals with study of haematology, serum enzymes and electrolytes on 30 thoroughbred horses suffering from large strongyles infection and treated with piperazine adipate. This study revealed a higly significant (p >0.05) decrease in RBC, Hb, Neutrophil percentage, Na, K and Mg in diseased horses. The decrease in RBCs and haemoglobin exhibited normocytic normochromic anaemia. There was a significant decrease in monocyte percentage in diseased animals. A highly significant (p >0.05) increase in eosinophils, SGPT, SGOT, LDH, and a significant increse in basophils percentage was recorded in diseased horses. No significant increase / decrease (p <0.05) was noted in the levels of TLC, lymphocyte percentage, CPK and Ca in diseased horses. Part 3 deals with therapeutic trials of allopathic and herbal drugs. This study was conducted on 110 thoroughbred horses suffering from large strongyles infestation. Present study revealed that aqueous extract of N. sativa seeds at the dose rates of 50, 100 and 150 mg/kg body weight is highly effective and showed 87.50 %, 87.82 % and 88.35 % efficacy 28 days post treatment respectively. Aqueous extracts of F.parviflora arial parts at the dose rates of 50, 100 and 150 mg/kg body weight showed 62.74 %, 80.68 % and 81.74 % efficacy 28 days post treatment respectively. Aqueous extracts of Fl. macrophylla arial parts at the dose rates of 50, 100 and 150 mg/kg body weight exhibited 66.92 %, 73.38 % and 74.04 % efficacy 28 days post treatment respectively whereas 100 % efficacy rate of piperzine adipate (allopathic drug) at the dose rate of 110 mg/kg body was noted. Among the herbal drugs efficacy was found maximum in N.sativa followed by F.parviflora whereas the lowest with Fl. macrophylla.
