In the present study, traditionally used antidiabetic plants (Cassia absus, Moringa oleifera, Dalbergia sissoo, Mangifera indica, Azadirachta indica, Syzygium cumini, Heliotropium strigosum, Momordica charantia and Fagonia indica) were collected from different areas of Punjab, Pakistan. Ethanolic and aqueous extracts of plants obtained through stirring (extraction technique) were evaluated for antioxidant activity (2, 2- diphenylpicrylhydrazyl), antidiabetic activities (in vitro alpha amylase inhibition assay) and phytochemical studies (total phenolic and flavonoid contents). Further, antidiabetic activities (antihyperglycemic & antihyperlipidemic) of three plants (Moringa oleifera, Fagonia indica and Heliotropium strigosum) were also evaluated through in vivo experiments. Although all plant extracts exhibited good antioxidant and antidiabetic (alpha amylase inhibition) activities. However, aqueous extracts were found to have better alpha amylase inhibition activities and higher phenolic acids than ethanolic extracts. Aqueous extract of Heliotropium strigosum exhibited maximum inhibition (58.6±0.03%) at 1ppm. Overall, both aqueous and ethanolic extracts of selected plants showed good antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic activities in alloxan induced diabetic rabbits but Fagonia indica aqueous extract caused maximum reduction (75.36%) in blood glucose level of alloxan induced diabetic rabbits after 21 days of treatment. High performance liquid chromatography analysis evidenced the presence of phenolic acids in all plants extracts. The variation in yield, phytochemicals constituents and biological activities of most of the plant extracts, with respect to solvent and plant species were statistically significant.

Allah Almighty sent prophets for guidance of human beings and revealed the books on them, who strove for transformation of the society. Islam  declared  that  master  and  salve, king  and  subjects, men  and women, all are  equal  and slaves  of   God. They are equal before the Law. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said ‘‘All human beings have equal rights’’. The Holy Prophet maintained religious equality. He  did not  talk  ill  of  other  religious  faiths, rather  he  protected  the  rights  and  prosperity  of  non-Muslims  who  lived  in  Islamic  society. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) preached goodness among humans like truth and compassion. He also restricted them from vice like lie, betray, greed, pride, bribery and domestic evils.  For being the last Ummah, the Holy Quran entrusted the Muslims with the mission of calling others to goodness and stopping them from the evil. This Paper attempts the role of Islamic teachings the transformation of the society.

Exploring Mathematics Teachers’ Responses to Challenges in Teaching and Learning of Mathematics

The world of mathematics education is progressing rapidly with new knowledge being generated through advanced research. In order to make sense of the new mathematical discoveries and information in the field of mathematics education, conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts is very essential. Moreover, mathematics teaching and learning to promote students’ conceptual understanding in the context of Pakistan is considered challenging. Nevertheless teachers try to handle the emerging challenges while teaching for conceptual understanding. This study aimed to explore the challenges of mathematics classrooms and the strategies that mathematics teachers use to promote mathematical understanding in the middle school of a private Learning Resource High School in the context of Gilgit-Baltistan. In order to achieve the research purpose, a qualitative case study approach was used to carry out this study. The participants of this study were two mathematics teachers. The tools used for the purpose of data collection were: semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, post lesson discussions, document analysis and reflective journal maintained by the researcher. The interview data was audio-taped and transcribed. Further, the data was analyzed by coding and categorizing under various themes. The study revealed that during the teaching and learning of mathematics, teachers face certain types of challenges such as English language barrier, non-availability of teaching resources and their utilization, lack of classroom culture of exploration and issues in teaching of algebraic concepts. Similarly, the study also revealed that to overcome the emerging challenges, the teachers facilitate students with the help of contextual low-cost no-cost materials, contextualizing the mathematical concepts and through the involvement of the students. This study can help mathematics teachers and educators to design various types of activities to overcome the challenges.
