In this thesis, we have investigated the electrostatic electron Bernstein waves in a collisionless magnetized plasma using the Cairns distribution function. In this regard, we have derived a generalized dielectric constant for the Bernstein waves and derived the modified dispersion relation in the presence of Cairns distribution function. We have found that the dispersion curves for the electron Bernstein waves using the Cairns distribution function show a very significant deviation from the Maxwellian results. It has been found that the behavior of the Bernstein waves across the entire band between the adjacent harmonics show a departure from the Maxwellian result for the different values of the non-thermality parameter for the Cairns distribution function. Furthermore, Bernstein waves with Vasyliunas-Cairns (VC) distribution has been investi gated. We have obtained the linear dispersion relation for Bernstein waves for two electron species and explored it both analytically and numerically. It has been shown that Bernstein waves with Vasyliunas-Cairns distribution exhibit a significant departure from the results re ported earlier with Maxwellian and dual kappa distributions especially in the long wavelength regime. It has been found that the parameters represent the non-thermal percentage of cold and hot electrons in Cairns distribution, play a unique and vital role in determining the behavior of Bernstein modes in VC distribution which has no parallel in Maxwellian and double kappa distribution functions. Whistler waves propagating parallel to the ambient magnetic field with electron temperature anisotropy have also been investigated employing the kinetic theory of plasmas. The electron distribution function has been considered to follow the Cairns distribution. Dispersion relation for the whistler waves with Cairns distribution has been derived and the condition for the onset of instability has also been obtained. It has been found that the Cairns distribution significantly modifies the instability condition for the growth of whistler instability. The comparison of the dispersion characteristics and growth rate with Maxwellian distribution has also been made and it has been observed that Cairns distributed electrons yield a higher growth rate by comparison with their Maxwellian counterparts. It has also been shown that unlike the kappa distribution where parallel electron beta was found to play the key role, whistler instability with Cairns distributed electrons shows a greater sensitivity towards electron temperature anisotropy. It has been shown that the real frequency of the whistler waves shows dependence on the choice of parallel electron beta. Interestingly, it has been found that a particular combination of parallel electron beta and electron temperature anisotropy is deleterious for the whistler instability. In the end, a comparison of whistler waves dispersion and growth has been done with elec tron temperature anisotropy using different non-thermal distributions by changing the plasma parameters. It has been found that the growth rate of whistler instability is maximum for flat topped distribution whereas it is minimum for the Maxwellian distribution. Our study may be beneficial to understand the propagation characteristics of waves in space plasmas where departure from Maxwellian behavior has been divulged by many expeditions in space.

Antecedents of “Quality of Work” in Islamic Perspective Through Mediating Effect of Perceived Job Performance

In most of service organizations particularly in Pakistan financial sector, employees have reduced their job performance and shortened quality of work due to many factors influencing them at workplace. This research study aims to explore such antecedents in view of Islam that can improve the quality of work in banking sector wherein mediating effect of perceived job performance has been tested. Model variables of this study have also been described in the Islamic perspective. Islam is complete religion in all respect and provides foundation for quality of work. Accuracy & beatification in work, discipline, sequence of tasks, impartiality, and Islamic job satisfaction, knowing ourselves and its link with knowing to our God are parts of quality of work and employees’ performance in the Islamic point of view.  The target population of this study covers 20,514 employees of banking sector working in capital cities of Pakistan. Data were collected via cross sectional approach from 380 desk and frontline officials of Public and private banks. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling techniques were used for data analysis. Findings of this research are demonstrated that job satisfaction and emotional intelligence are found the valuable antecedents of job performance and quality of work where employee’s job performance has been proved as a partial mediator between antecedents and quality of work. The two antecedents i.e. Job satisfaction, emotional intelligence of perceived job performance and quality of work have been supposed in this study to take as interpreters for the improvement of employees’ contentment and abilities in the working environment of banking sector. These are positively persuaded to job performance and quality of work. A practical exposure is offered by this research that organizational education about importance to employee’s satisfaction and emotional intelligence would be vital for achieving optimum results in this industry.

Reflect Arrays for High Gain Applications

This research work focuses on design and analysis of low-cost, single-layer broadband reflectarrays for X-band applications. Traditionally, parabolic reflectors and phased arrays were introduced to obtain the high gain. The disadvantages associated with traditional antenna types include: narrow bandwidth, high fabrication cost and complex feed networks. Recently, reflectarray antennas have been developed to overcome the disadvantages associated with parabolic reflectors and phased arrays. High gain reflectarray antennas are typically employed in radars, satellite communication and direct broadcasting applications. Four different type of delay-lines integrated reflectarray elements which include: single circular delay-line, pair of circular delay-lines, quad-meander and T-shape delay-lines are designed to obtain a broad linear phase range, high gain and good aperture efficiency. The reflectarray unit element performance is investigated in terms of phase range, Transverse Electric (TE) and Transverse Magnetic (TM) modes and far-field radiation patterns. The reflectarray unit element is analyzed by using circuit model technique and equivalent circuit results are verified through High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS™). The circuit model technique replaces the lengthy full-wave simulation of FEM method. This method provides fast and accurate calculation of electromagnetic parameters i.e. magnitude and phase range. The unit element shape and configurations are used to extract the lumped parameters and reflection characteristics. The reflectarray antenna system contains a feed horn antenna and an arrangement of phase shifting array elements. A hybrid Finite Element Boundary Integral (FEBI) method is used for electromagnetic modeling of reflectarray antenna system. The FEBI method provides accurate electromagnetic analysis of complex and medium-to-large sized structures. The reflectarray far-field radiation characteristics are obtained by using the hybrid FEBI method. The reflectarray antenna system model comprises of feed horn antenna and array of phase shifting elements. The feed horn antenna and array elements are designed separately. The effect of the incident angle, feed-to-diameter ratio and transmission modes can easily be considered in the FEBI based system simulations. The proposed reflectarray prototypes are fabricated and measured on a low-cost FR-4 substrate. The reflectarray antenna measurements are made in anechoic chamber. A gain of more than 20 dBi is realized for the proposed reflectarray configurations. The simulated and measured cross polarizations and side-lobe-levels are below -20 dB in all design configurations. More importantly, simulated results are in good agreement with the measured results.
