The swift evolution of biofeedback control has opened up new voyages in the field of biomedical engineering and provides powerful perspective to researchers for viewing many real problems such as tumor, surgeries of sensitive parts of body, control of glucose level of a patient, heart diseases and brain disorders associated with humans. Consequently, mysterious and intricate biological phenomena can now be studied and investigated by utilizing the knowledge of control and nonlinear dynamics of physical systems. The emerging theory of biofeedback control can be more fruitful for understanding the brain functioning in order to cope with various neural disorders. Neuron, being an innate sophisticated structural entity of nervous system, plays an imperative role owing to its chief biophysical features and key mechanism of operations, for effective transmission of neuronal signals to the brain and the muscles. The probe of neuron doctrine gives an insight into understanding of brain information processing and information transmittance among neurons which may further ii corroborate a close relevance between the synchronization of neural systems and the information of cerebral process. Thus, neuronal synchronization under deep brain stimulation has become a potential application in the study of clinical treatment mechanisms for neurodegenerative disorders. Moreover, the famous FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) model under external electrical stimulation (EES; e.g. deep brain stimulation), is extensively used as synchronization study tool for its utility in symbolizing the dynamical behavior of neurons. The embryonic impact of biofeedback control in improving external therapies for patients suffering cognitive disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy and dystonia is the main motivation to this research work. “This thesis presents an efficient novel mechanism for synchronization of two different, chaotic and distant coupled neurons with unknown parameters subjected to external electrical stimulation and disturbances” This research investigates the chaotic behavior and synchronization of two different coupled chaotic FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) neurons with unknown parameters under external electrical stimulation (EES). The coupled FHN neurons iii of different parameters admit unidirectional and bidirectional gap junctions in the medium between them. Dynamical properties, such as increase in synchronization error as a consequence of the deviation of neuronal parameters for unlike neurons, the effect of difference in coupling strengths caused by the unidirectional gap junctions, and the impact of large time-delay due to separation of neurons, are studied in exploring the behavior of the coupled system. A novel integral-based nonlinear adaptive control scheme to cope with infeasibility of the recovery variable, for synchronization of two coupled delayed chaotic FHN neurons of different and unknown parameters under uncertain EES is derived. Further, to guarantee robust synchronization of different neurons against disturbances, the proposed control methodology is modified to achieve the uniformly ultimately bounded synchronization. The parametric estimation errors can be reduced by selecting suitable control parameters. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is illustrated via simulation results. Keywords: Chaos synchronization; FitzHugh-Nagumo model; External electrical stimulation; Robust adaptive control; Lyapunov function.

Analytical study of the propagation of Ḥadīth-learning and the services of Muḥaddithīn in the Subcontinent

Ḥadīth learning has a very high status in Islamic education after the Exegesis of the Holy Qurān (Tafsīr). Oddly enough, Non-Arab (‘Ajam) has a more important and key role than Arabs in the service of this knowledge. In this regard, the subcontinent is also being remained in the forefront. It started when Muhammad bin Qasim strengthened the Arab government in Sindh. Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehalvi is one of the prominent names in the teaching and writing of ḥadīth which travels gradually and reaches the family of Shah Waliullah, which is undoubtedly the pinnacle of ḥadīth knowledge in the subcontinent. The types of hadith that have been worked on, in connection with the service of ḥadīth, include the text of ḥadīth, commentaries, as well as summaries of ḥadīth and others. The entire Islamic world has benefited from all these teaching and writing services. The subcontinent, especially Pakistan, is gaining a central position in the Islamic world, which is the result of the propagation of Islam and understanding of the Qurān and Ḥadīth. In this regard, it is imperative to re-evaluate the services of the historians of this land. The said article will not only provide an introductory review of the Muḥaddith in the subcontinent and their authorship as well as a compilation but will also highlight the broadcasting and writing services of the hadith learning.

A Spirituality Based Model of Personality Assessment for Managers in Relation to Job Satisfaction, Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Paranoia and the Moderating Role of Workplace Spirituality.

Personality is a very broad and complex phenomenon which has been vastly studied in different domains from diverse perspectives and there is no single perspective where all researchers have a consensus. There are many personality related traits, attitudes and behaviors of organizational concern, but in case of personality, the models are again mainly borrowed from psychology. The major limitation of the models is that they measure the personality in bits and pieces rather than taking a holistic view. Here we need a basic or ontological dimension to take an integrated view of personality. Spirituality as per many scholars is an ontological dimension of personality. The researchers in psychology in general and in management sciences in specific are now giving attention to the subject. The individual as well as the workplace spirituality are very well researched topics now a days. The current study has focused on the exploration of spirituality as a pivotal phenomenon in assessing human personality through its psychometric capabilities. So spirituality can be a phenomenon where the personality can be gauged holistically as personality traits, attitudes and behavioral outcomes can be predicted through it. This will help the organizations to select, develop and retain appropriate employees in a more meaningful way. The theory suggested that the spirituality can be gauged from low to high with different attitudinal, behavioral and transcendental consequences. After extensive literature review of spirituality across different religions especially incorporating the eastern philosophy, which was missing part in current management science literature, a theory and a definition of spirituality was established which was further used as a basis to develop a scale. For this very purpose, in the first study a tool was developed keeping in view the definition of spirituality, and then its validity as well as the reliability were tested. Furthermore to authenticate the validity of the spiritual phenomenon and its psychometric capabilities, the instrument was tested with certain variables related to employees’ personality. In this regard the variables taken constituted an attitude that is Job Satisfaction, a behavior that is OCB and a personality disorder that is Paranoia. To test the role of WPS in nurturing the spirituality at employee level, it was taken as a moderator in the research model. In the first study, the items were collected from multiple sources and an exhaustive list was developed and then by using grounded theory approach the a list of 30 finalized items was developed. Further the instrument was pilot tested on a sample of 100 students and then it was finally tested on a sample of 430 individuals. After reliability analysis the items with unacceptable loadings were eliminated and the list was reduced to 18 items. In the second study, a sample of 600 respondents was selected from 30 cross sectoral organizations. Out of the sample 530 were useful having no missing values. To analyze the data correlation, regression, and SEM techniques were used. The results supported all the hypothesis in general and hence the findings suggested that the low vs. high spirituality have their respective implications, such as employees with high spirituality are more satisfied, high in exhibiting OCB and were less paranoid. Workplace spirituality also moderated the relation between IV and DVs. Furthermore the study has multiple contributions for literature as very fruitful implications for the practitioners while selecting, retaining employees and enhancing their performance.
