In this study new series of bio-functionalized polyurethane elastomers, blends and biocomposites with potential for biomedical applications were synthesized, employing hydroxy terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) and different diisocyanates (HMDI, H12MDI, IPDI, TDI, MDI) with stoichiometric balanced mole ratio of curcumin/BDO via step growth polymerization process (1:3:2). In the same way pristine and clay based polyurethanes were prepared, using HTPB/ diisocyanate with different blends of chitin, curcumin and 1,4- butane diol (BDO). Characterization of the sample series was done by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Solid-state proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (SS1HNMR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The FT-IR and SS1HNMR analysis confirmed the involvement of chitin, curcumin and BDO in reaction by appearance of broad peak of N-H at 3327.21 cm-1 and disappearance of –NCO peak at 2268.29 cm-1 in final chitin, curcumin and BDO based polyurethanes. The SEM technique reported the surface morphology of elastomers and complete dispersion of nano-fillers in PU bio-nanocomposites. Crystalline behavior of the synthesized elastomers and bionanocomposites were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), which showed crystallinity improved by chitin and nanofiller (bentonite clay). Thermal behaviors of synthesized blends were studied by using TGA and DSC techniques. The TGA peaks revealed that PU blends with mole ratio 1M:0.5M:0.5M, chitin:curcumin:BDO, respectively, and 0.1% clay have better thermal stability. The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal test for different samples of the curcumin based polyurethanes were studied in order to determine the biocompatibility of various diisocyanate structures based PU samples. It was found that aliphatic diisocyanate based PU showed substantially lower antimicrobial activity as compared to the PU having aromatic diisocyanate. Water absorption and swelling behavior of the synthesized polyurethane elastomers and bio-nanocomposites were also observed by immersing the samples in water and DMSO. In elastomers the chitin reduces the absorption and swelling behavior while against of it in bio-nanocomposites clay improved both of these characters.

افسوس ہے کہ ہماری بزم دوشین کی وہ آخری یادگار شمع بھی خاموش ہوگئی، جس سے مدتوں بزم کمال منور رہی، یعنی ۱۱؍اگست کو نواب صدر یارجنگ مولانا حبیب الرحمن خان شروانی نے چھیاسی سال کی عمر میں اس خاکدان سفلی کو الوداع کہا، عمر طبعی کو پہنچنے کے بعد موت ناگزیر ہے، لیکن بعض مرنے والوں کے ساتھ ایک پورا عہد اور پوری تاریخ دفن ہوجاتی ہے، مولانا شروانی مرحوم کا حادثۂ وفات انہی میں ہے، وہ مشرقی و اسلامی تہذیب و شرافت کا نمونہ اور علم و عمل، فضل و کمال، دین و تقویٰ، وقار و متانت، اخلاق و تواضع کا پیکر اور تنہا ایک عالم تھے، کامل ساٹھ سال تک مسلمانوں کی قومی زندگی سے وابستہ رہے، اس لئے ان کی وفات شخصی نہیں بلکہ قومی حادثہ اور ایک مرقعِ کمال اور قدیم تہذیب و شرافت کا ماتم ہے۔

Civil-Military Relations and Concordance Theory: A Case Study of Pakistan (1988-93)

The article attempts to apply the concordance model of Rebecca Schiff’s on Pakistan from 1988-93. The findings of the article have observed some contradictions and problem of oversimplification in the model with reference to Pakistan. The finding did not support her argument that concordance amid the three stake holders on four indicators could prevent military intervention in politics. In fact the results of this study are different than the model’s beliefs.

Leadership Behavior of Secondary and Higher Secondary Institutions Principals-A Critical Indicator of Educational Climate.

The study investigated the instructional leadership behaviors of secondary school principals, as perceived by teachers and principals, and the potential relationship between these behaviors and school climate. The method adopted for the present investigation can be described as being normative statistical in nature. Use of informative statistics has also been made to arrive at results based on empirical data. For the purpose of this study, a quantitative survey was used to gather the data and thus answer the research questions. The purpose of the survey research was to generalize from a sample of teacher and principal perceptions regarding principal instructional leadership behavior so that inferences could be made regarding the possible relationship between reported principal behaviors and student achievement. Initially, 19 secondary schools agreed to participate in the study. This cohort included 11 schools that were working in public and 8 that were working as private institute. However, the survey was voluntary for both principals and teachers, resulting in only eight public sector schools and seven private schools choosing to participate. Principal Instructional Management Scale (PIMRS) and School Organizational Climate Descriptive Questionnaire (SOCDQ) were two major instruments which used in the study. A total of 15 principals and 176 teachers responded to the survey. In order to address the two null hypotheses and associated research questions associated with this study, several ANOVA outputs were analyzed. Both null hypotheses were rejected because there were statistically significant differences found in perceptions between public and private sector cohorts, and within cohorts between principals and teachers. The analysis reveals that even-though, overall trends of the profiles are similar yet marked differences have been found on the different dimensions of organizational climate. This indicates that within the given organizational climate, there may be various levels and variations. This establishes the hypothesis that schools differ in their organizational climate even within the specified climate. In other words, every institution has its own organizational climate which gives it a distinct personality.
