Three sets of nanoparticles (ZnO, Gd/ZnO, Sm/ZnO, La/ZnO), (TiO2, Gd/TiO2, Sm/ TiO2, La/TiO2) and (SiO2, Gd/SiO2, Sm/SiO2, La/SiO2) were fabricated by sol-gel method using appropriate precursors with and without using surfactant (Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate)below its CMC value. The synthesized samples were characterized by Thermo gravimetric Analysis/Differential scanning calorimetry (TGA/DSC) for their thermal properties, by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for morphology of nanoparticles, by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for particle size, by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) for crystal structure and crystallite size, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to analyze metal-oxygen bonding and functional groups. All characterization techniques confirmed the synthesis of nanoparticles. The average size of all nanoparticles was observed below 30nm and results obtained from TEM and XRD for particle size are in agreement with each other. Solid phase UV-visible absorption spectrophotometer (SPS) analysis was performed to study optical band gap of metal oxide nanoparticles and effect of doping on the band gap of nanoparticles. It was observed that band gap of undoped nanoparticles were higher than the band gap of same material in bulk form and band gap of lanthanide doped nanomaterials was less than undoped material. The observed optical band gap value for ZnO was 3.62eV, for TiO2 was 3.69eV and for SiO2 was 3.58eV. Catalytic activity was done by photodegradation of a highly neurotoxic, industrial pollutant Methylene Blue at different reaction conditions for time intervals 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 120 minutes using UV-light, Sunlight and dark. The photocatalytic degradation of MB was studied by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer in kinetic mode and first order rate constant (k) was calculated. Maximum degradation (26.146%) with k-value 0.1031 Sec-1was made Gd/ZnO nanoparticles after 120 minute reaction in UV-light. It was also observed that photodegradation activity of Gd/ZnO, Sm/ZnO and Sm/TiO2 was approximately equal with a slight difference. Also SiO2 and Ln (Ln= Gd,Sm,La) doped SiO2 have lower catalytic degradation activity as compared to (ZnO, Gd/ZnO, Sm/ZnO, La/ZnO) and (TiO2, Gd/TiO2, Sm/ TiO2, La/TiO2). Results suggested that these nanoparticles may be envisaged for the treatment of waste water.

Factors Affecting Hospital Service Innovation: Literature Review

Innovation at the hospital as a change in the delivery of patient-focused health services by encouraging healthcare professionals to work smarter, faster and better. Service innovation can provide an effective way to create a sustainable competitive advantage for hospitals. This study aims to analyze and examine the factors that influence service innovation in hospitals using the literature review method. The results were obtained from a literature search that discusses the major factors that influence service innovation, namely in the form of a good management system within the scope of the hospital. This big influence is that human resources, starting from the leaders and employees who work in the hospital, must work together for the advancement and empowerment of the hospital.

Perceptions of Women Head Teachers Experiences of Attending Professional Development Programs

This study explores how public sector schools female head teachers experience in-service professional development programs to influence their professional and personal experiences. Under the qualitative research paradigm, two research participants were selected through purposive sampling. Semi-structured interviews, observations and reflective journal were used as tools for data collection. This study was conducted in two public AKU-IED co-operative schools in Karachi, Pakistan. Study findings show that attending professional development programs has influenced the women head teachers' personal and professional lives. Their journey of evolving as educational leaders, in context where educational leadership is primarily male-dominated has been greatly influenced by both their birth and marital families and also the school. Their commitment to enhance their practice by attending professional development programs to learn new skills and knowledge has equally been facilitated both by their families and school administration. Hence, they feel competent and confident in their leadership practices. Participating in professional development programs have enhanced their organizational skills as well as their abilities to be a role model and to create an environment where staff works as a team to improve student learning outcomes. Nevertheless, patriarchy directs women's lives and they have to negotiate multiple roles and responsibilities within the ascribed gender norms of the context. Their participation in professional development programs, while possible in most instances, has also been challenging. Their mobility, care giving and domestic tasks have made it challenging for them to fully participate in professional development programs. Whereas, predominantly mixed-sex groupins in professional development programs have been problematic for the women head teachers. Nevertheless, opportunities to network and learn from the best practices of other educational leaders have been important. The women head teachers have had to overcome resistance from stakeholders in their determination and commitment to implement new learning in order to bring about change at the school level. This study was justified the need to include women's voice in educational leadership to further the knowledge-base and to challenge gender structures to enable more women to enter into this field. In particular, it has been significant in bringing forward women educational leaders' experiences of professional development programs, an area of education which has gone largely unexamined in the Pakistani context.
