Zinc(II), copper(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes of Schiff-bases, obtained by the condensation of 3 rd generation Cephalosporin e.g., Ceftriaxone, Cefixime, Cefotaxime, and Ceftazidime with the respective aldehydes such as furyl-2-carboxaldehyde, thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde, salicylaldehyde, pyrrol-2-carboxaldehyde and 3- hydroxynaphthalene-2-carboxaldehyde were synthesized and characterized by their physical, molar conductance, magnetic moments, and electronic spectral measurements (IR, 1 H and 13 C NMR and mass), analytical (CHN analysis) and thermal analyses data. Analytical data and electrical conductivity measurements indicated the formation of M:L (1:2) complexes of the type [M(L) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] or [M(L) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]Cl 2 [where M = Zn(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II)] in which ligands act as bidentate towards divalent metal ions via azomethine-N and deprotonated-O of salicyl and naphthyal, furanyl-O, thienyl-S and XIIIdeprotonated pyrrolyl-N. The magnetic moments and electronic spectral data suggest octahedral geometry for these complexes. The main objective of present study is to highlight the potential of Cephalosporin derivatives as antimicrobial agents. The work comprises of the study of changes in antimicrobial activity of four cephalosporins, Ceftiaxone, Cefixime, Cefotaxime and ceftazidime by condensation of free amino group (NH 2 ) of these Cephalosporin with the carbonyl (HC=O) group of aldehydes to achieve the target of twenty new Cephalosporin derived Schiff bases (L 1 )-(L 20 ) and their metal complexation with Zn(II). Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) salts. The synthesized ligands, along with their metal complexes were screened for their antibacterial activity against different Gram-positive & Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enteritidis and Klebsiella pneumonia) bacterial strains using agar-well diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was observed and thereafter compared with the standard MIC’s of the respective drug by agar dilution method against both Gram positive and Gram-negative organisms so as to evaluate changes in antimicrobiological activity of the standard cephalosporins after azomethine formation with aldehydes and their metal interactions. The results of these studies show the metal complexes to be more antibacterial against one or more species as compared to the uncomplexed ligands. It was concluded that metal elements that are essential for our body mechanism either present in the body or coadminstered with vitamins markedly influence the MIC’s of antibiotics by producing synergism or antagonism.

Benazir Bhutto and the Challenge and Response Theory

This study estimates the leadership qualities of Benazir Bhutto, first female Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Islamic world. The life history of Benazir Bhutto also falls under the category of charismatic leadership as she displayed exceptional leadership qualities in the face of different personal and political challenges. Much has been written on the life, personality and political career of Benazir Bhutto but very few have made academic and in depth study of leadership qualities of Benazir Bhutto which were predominant and striking features of her political leadership during her second tenure as Prime Minister of Pakistan (1993-96). Therefore, this article navigates on diverse Socio-economic, Political and Geo-strategic challenges and responses of Benazir Bhutto as Prime Minister of Pakistan (1993-96). Further, it encapsulates her relationship with military, dwindling state of economy, revengeful role of opposition and various contradictions with President created a grave challenge not only for poor governance but also for the longevity of her premiership tenure. It was not smooth sailing for her as Prime Minister; however, it was a hard journey full of myriad challenges, inherited dwindling economy, overdeveloped state structure, strife torn society, volatile geo-political situation, regional disparities, vindictive politics of opposition and imbalance of power between Prime Minister and President required stupendous efforts from Benazir Bhutto as a Prime Minister. Further, this study presents a systematic and factual analysis of the socio-economic challenges and the arbitrary use of the Presidential power (58) (2B). Furthermore, theory of challenge and response has also been applied to have a better understanding of Benazir Bhutto’s leadership qualities and administrative abilities. It also throws light on the circumstances that led towards her ouster from premiership. Besides, this study attempts to find what were the diverse challenges faced by Benazir Bhutto as a Prime Minister (1993-96)? How did she respond to various challenges as Prime Minister?

The Analysis of Impact of Training on Employee Development: A Case of Public Accountant Trainees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The current study analyzes the impact of training on employees'' development perceptions and the influence the said perceptions on employees'' job-related attitudes and behavior in the public sector organizations i.e. Accountant General Office in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The research study assesses the mediating role of development in relation to training and organizational commitment, employee motivation, job performance, turnover intentions and job satisfaction. The evaluation of research model was carried out through Confirmatory Factor Analysis by using the statistical technique of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The current study is an effort to emphasize the importance of training and promoting the perceptions of employee development within the public sector organizations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in particular, and in Pakistan, in general. The results of the study demonstrate that employee development perceptions have a direct and positive impact on enhancing organizational commitment, employee motivation, job performance, and job satisfaction; while, negatively affect the employees’ turnover intentions. Similarly, the research model and its constructs have demonstrated the proposed interdependence. Again, the study help the policy makers who are responsible for policy formulation to rehash their policies by encompassing the approaches that facilitate the promotion of perceptions of employee development and their fruitful outcomes for the effectiveness of the organization. Replication of the study may help to validate the hypothesized constructs and their consequent application in the organizations that share somewhat similar organizational structures.
