Several 5-arylfuran-2-carbaldehydes were prepared from furfural by a Meerwein arylation. These were then reacted with a few arylhydrazides to provide respective arylhydrazones which acted as the starting ligands. On reaction with copper, nickel and cobalt (d block elements) salts provided corresponding metal complexes. (Scheme). NH2 R + O CHO R O CHO O CH R N NH O C R'' H2N NH C O R'' (Hydrazide) M= Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) O C N H N C R'' O M O C N H N C R'' O R R M O C N H N C R'' O R Cl (A) (B) O N C H N C O M O (C) R (Hydrazone) (5-arylfuran-2-carbaldehydes ) Both the conventional heating and microwave irradiation were employed for the formation of the hydrazides, hydrazones and the metal complexes. Microwave methods were time and yield efficient and presented as eco-friendly, neater and higher yields processes as viii compared to the conventional methods. All the new compounds were characterized through their elemental analyses and spectra (FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and EIMS). The metal complexes were further analyzed for their metal contents (ICP-OES) and chloride ions (Metrohm potentiometric autotitrator). Mass spectral fragmentation of the hydrazone ligands was also suggested. Further studies showed that the complexes formed in the ligand to metal ratios were 2:1 and 1:1 which helped identify them as Octahedron (A), Tetrahedron (B) and Square planar (C) in their geometry. Chloride ions when present are perhaps in the bridging position in the complexes. Biological screening of the ligands as well as their complexes was carried out to test for their antibacterial (three Gram Positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Actinobaculumschaalii) and six Gram Negative (Pseudomonas aerugenosa, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Bordetellabronchiseptica, Shigella and Salmonella) bacterial strains were tested) and antioxidant activity (three: in vitro methods used DPPH method, NO method and Phosphomolybdenum method). These products did not show any pronounced activities however.

قارئین معارف کو اس اطلاع سے نہایت رنج ہوگا کہ ان کے محبوب اور معارف کے خاص مضمون نگار مولانا شہاب الدین ندوی ۱۹؍ اپریل ۲۰۰۲؁ء کو سفرِ آخرت پر روانہ ہوگئے، اناﷲ وانا الیہ راجعون۔
وہ کئی برس سے موذی امراض میں مبتلا تھے اور چند ماہ سے موت و حیات کی کشمکش میں گرفتار تھے جس کی تفصیل مجھے ۳۱؍ دسمبر ۲۰۰۱؁ء کو اپنے والا نامہ میں اس طرح لکھی تھی۔
’’طبیعت بہت زیادہ خراب اور نڈھال رہتی ہے، کئی کئی دن بستر پر پڑا رہتا ہوں، علاج و معالجے سے کوئی فائدہ نہیں ہورہا ہے کئی قسم کے امراض میں مبتلا ہوں اور ڈاکٹر ان کی تشخیص نہیں کرپارہے ہیں، ایک بیماری ذرا دبتی ہے تو دوسری ابھر کر سامنے آجاتی ہے ان جان لیوا بیماریوں سے تنگ آچکا ہوں اور مزید طرفہ یہ کہ اب آنکھوں کی بینائی بھی مسلسل ضائع ہوتی جارہی ہے۔ داہنی آنکھ کا آپریشن ہوا مگر بینائی بڑھنے کے بجائے گھٹ رہی ہے، معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ اب میں صرف چند دن کا مہمان ہوں لیکن طبیعت جب کبھی ذرا سنبھلتی ہے تو جم کر لکھنے اور اپنے مسودات صاف کرنے بیٹھ جاتا ہوں‘‘۔
آخر وہی ہوا، خط لکھنے کے ساڑھے تین مہینے بعد وقت موعود آگیا اور مولانا کی ساری دینی، علمی اور تحقیقی سرگرمیاں ہمیشہ کے لیے بند ہوگئیں۔

حالات و زمانہ کی رعایت سے متعلق جمہور فقہاء کرام کی تصریحات (عصر حاضر کے تناظر میں ایک مطالعہ)

Human life is the subjective of change with the changing circumstances. If we look at the condition of our late grandfather or great – grandfather and look at the contemporary situation; it will not be difficult to understand this change. The rules about some important issues had been changed with the passage of time. In the initial descendants of Adam the marriage of brothers and sisters was allowed, after the flood of Noah, due to the scarcity of animals, the meat of all kinds of animals was allowed, two sisters were married to Hazrat Yaqub (A.S) at the same time, but the rules had been reversed afterwards. Even in the time of the Holy Prophet and the rightly guided caliphs, such changes took place and they were associated with the changing conditions. Initially it was banned to visit the graves and the sacrificial meet was not allowed to keep for more than three days and it was mandatory upon the women to attend the congregational prayer but afterwards the permissions were granted contrarily. Fortunately, we have a body of jurisprudence in the light of which not only contemporary issues can be solved but also guidance can be provided for the future. Our leading Jurists, who are followed, have done a remarkable job in this regard. The following article reviews the teachings of the three jurists, namely Imam Shafi’i, Imam Malik, and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal and teachings of their glean jurists. It will make clear that under changing circumstances these jurists seemed to agree on change. Therefore, by using the efforts of these jurists, we can try to resolve the problems of our contemporary changes and requirements throughout the Muslim World.

Selection of Web Services by Using Diversified Service Rank

Traditional techniques for web service discovery and selection mostly rely on string matching and/or semantic logic-based matching. They are generally developed on service description and functional attributes which are exposed in service advertisement. The selection is made from the result output which is typically presented in order of their ranks primarily based on degree of match of functional or operational parameters. The Quality of Service (QoS) attributes such as service performance, execution duration, reliability, reputation, popularity, security, access rights, availability, success rate, price etc and user preferences are often ignored in the query. Moreover, it is very difficult for the requester or any software agent to select the best service out of many potential candidates from the search result. This paper proposes a framework that takes into account QoS attributes along with user preferences and devise an algorithm namely Diversified Service Rank (DSR) that re-ranks top k web services in the search result, this helps service requesters in prompt selection and composition of web services.
