The thesis is divided in three parts. In the rst part, it explores and discusses the diversity of concepts and motivations for obtaining good resolution and highly concentrated time–frequency distributions (TFDs) for the research community. The description of the methods used for TFDs'' objective assessment is provided later in this part. In the second part, a novel multi–processes ANN based framework to obtain highly concentrated TFDs is proposed. The propose method utilizes a localised Bayesian regularised neural network model (BRNNM) to obtain the energy concentration along the instantaneous frequencies (IFs) of individual components in the multicomponent signals without assuming any prior knowledge. The spectrogram and pre–processed Wigner–Ville distribution (WD) of the signals with known IF laws are used as the train- ing set for the BRNNM. These distributions, taken as two–dimensional (2–D) image matrices, are vectorized and clustered according to the elbow criterion. Each cluster contains the pairs of the input and target vectors from the spectrograms and highly concentrated pre–processed WD respectively. For each cluster, the pairs of vectors are used to train the multiple ANNs under the Bayesian framework of David Mackay. The best trained network for each cluster is selected based on network error criterion. In the test phase, the test TFDs of unknown signals, after vectorization and clustering, are processed through these specialized ANNs. After post–processing, the resultingTFDs are found to exhibit improved resolution and concentration along the individual components then the initial blurred estimates. The third part presents the discussion on the experimental results obtained by the proposed technique. Moreover the framework is extended to include the various objec- tive methods of assessment to evaluate the performance of de–blurred TFDs obtained through the proposed technique. The selected methods not only allow quantifying the quality of TFDs instead of relying solely on visual inspection of their plots, but also help in drawing comparison of the proposed technique with the other existing tech- niques found in literature for the purpose. In particular the computation regularities show the effectiveness of the objective criteria in quantifying the TFDs'' concentration and resolution information.

An Agglomeration Benefits of Oil and Gas Firms: An Exploratory Study Through Industrial Cluster

The research investigates the agglomeration pattern of seven national, international oil and gas extraction and production companies through an exploration of oil and gas cluster components and subcomponents. For this exploratory study, data is collected through primary sources via in-depth interviews from managers of national and international oil and gas MNCs working in Sindh, Pakistan and through secondary sources of business reports. The content analysis is adopted to analyze the data. Results of this study reveal that there is strong existence of exploration and production companies which results in agglomeration, however, other components of oil and gas cluster like refineries, marketing companies, supporting institutes, media and government poorly exist in Sindh province of Pakistan. Findings also highlight that the Sindh as a resource-rich region is still underdeveloped due to poor management of resources or because of the absence of ideal oil and gas cluster components and coordination among them in the region.

First Principle Study of Zn-Based Transition Metal Tm Doped Ii-Vi Ferromagnetic Semiconductors

The present study involves a comprehensive theoretical investigation of the structural, mechanical, electronic, magnetic and optical properties of Zn1- xTMxS/Se/Te (TM = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni), Ti doped ZnS/Se and V doped ZnS compounds with different dopant concentrations (TM = 0.00, 0.0625, 0.125, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00). The first principle approach has been applied in the frame work of density functional theory (DFT) by using full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP- LAPW) method. The optimized structures have been employed to depict the thermodynamic stability of ferromagnetic state from the calculated values of the enthalpy of formation (ΔH) and the cohesive energy. More recently developed modified Becke and Johnson (mBJ) potential, which calculates the most accurate band gap, has been employed to achieve a realistic set of the calculated properties. The origin and the nature of the ferromagnetism is elucidated from the calculated band structures (BS) and density of states (DOS), by analyzing the calculated exchange constants (N0α and N0β) and the magnetic moments. The negative and large values of N0β depict large splitting of 3d-states of TMs, due to the crystal field, indicating that the ferromagnetism is induced by the strong p-d hybridization. Moreover, it has been observed that Mn and Co doped ZnS/Se/Te compounds are ferromagnetic semiconductors, while Ti, V, Fe and Ni doped ZnS/Se/Te alloys are half-metallic ferromagnetic semiconductors. The estimated Curie temperatures (Tc) have shown that the studied compounds exhibit above room temperature ferromagnetism (RTFM), indicating potential spintronic device applications. The potential of the compounds for various optical applications has also been explored. The calculated real part of the static dielectric constant ε1(0) and optical band gap, Eg have depicted an inverse relation, in agreement with the Penn’s model, which confirm the accuracy of the presented calculations. A blue shift in the absorption region has been found for TM = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni doped ZnS/Se and V doped ZnS, while TM = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni doped ZnTe and Ti doped ZnS/Se have demonstrated a red shifted absorption. The decreasing trend of band gap and high value of absorption in the visible region, due to the magnetic ions doping, indicate
