Development of cotton varieties having good performance for salt-affected soils is one of the prime objectives of the cotton breeding institutions across the country. Thus, the present research work was carried out to find information about the presence of sufficient variability in cotton germplasm at seedling stage as well as at full crop stage. Considering the importance of evolution of salt tolerant varieties, the present study was planned with objectives: (a) to screen out available of cotton germplasm to determining their salt tolerance potential, (b) to Check out the genetical behaviour of F1 cotton genotypes under salt stress, and (c) To find out F1 cotton genotypes having high yield potential than existing cultivars. The cotton germplasm comprising of 50 genotypes was exposed to salinity stress of NaCl @10 and 20 dSm-1 at seedling stage. Large variations were exhibited by all the genotypes for root and shoot length, root and shoot fresh and dry weights. Moderate to high coefficient of variance and high heritability coupled with high genetic advance reflected that improvement in salinity tolerance at seedling stage is possible through selection. Selection index and cluster analysis resulted in 6 tolerant genotypes (NIAB-999, CIM-707, NIAB-78, MNH-93, CIM-446 and CIM-443) and 3 susceptible genotypes (CIM-499, NIAB-111 and S- 12). The line×tester mating design (using 6 tolerant genotypes as lines and 3 susceptible genotypes as tester) was employed to study the inheritance pattern of yield contributing traits (plant height, number of bolls per plant, individual boll weight and seed-cotton yield), fibre quality traits (GOT%, staple length, staple strength, fiber fineness) and ionic concentration traits (Na+, K+ and K+/Na+ ratio) of cotton genotypes exposed to normal (control level) and salinity stress level of NaCl @ 20 dSm-1. Analysis of variance indicated huge variation for all traits studied and it was found that salinity caused severe reduction in all traits except in Na+ and GOT%. High heritability estimated along with moderate to high values of genetic advance for all yield contributing traits suggested that selection may result in considerable improvement of seed-cotton yield under salinity stress. Plant height, number of bolls per plant, individual boll weight GOT%, staple length, staple strength, K+ and K+/Na+ ratio under salinity stress had shown highly significant correlation with seed-cotton yield per plant. Highest direct effects on seed-cotton yield were exhibited by number of bolls per plant and individual boll weight. Additive gene action was exhibited by plant height and number of bolls per plant, Na+, K+ and K+/Na+ ratio under salt stress environment while for individual boll weight, seed-cotton yield and staple length, mixed trend of additive and non-additive gene action were found under salt stress. It was also found that salt tolerant genotypes showed relatively less uptake of Na+ but high uptake of K+ and K+/Na+ ratio under salinity stress. The hybrids NIAB-999× CIM-499 and CIM-707× CIM-499 (on the basis of heterosis and combining ability estimates) were the top 2 hybrids having superior yield and increased salt tolerance under salt stress environment. Combining ability analysis suggested that these above 2 F1 genotypes need to be further progressed through pedigree method of selection.

Constructive Ways for Dispute Resolution: Employing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Techniques for The Reclamation of Justice

As the courts are not in a stance to hold up the entire load of the judicial system, multitudinous contentions impart themselves to settlement by alternative methods such as arbitration, conciliation, mediation, negotiation, etc. The Alternative dispute resolution processes not only lay out procedural pliability but also save valuable time & money and eschew the tensity of a conventional trial. Nearly all the discords involving civil, labour, commercial, and family strife, wherein the parties are capacitated to wind up a resolution, can be resolved by an alternative dispute resolution system. Alternate dispute resolution methods have also been evinced to operate in the business environment, principally in respect of disputation comprising intellectual property, securities, real estate, construction projects, joint ventures, partnership differences, personal injury, professional liability, product liability, contract interpretation and performance and insurance coverage. To dwindle the logjam of cases, there is a crucial need to organize and encourage alternate dispute resolution services for the settlement of both national and international conflicts. These services require to be nutrified on sound notions, prowess in their application and comprehensive and contemporary provisions. Although ADR has proven to be an efficacious mechanism as it has provided a congenial atmosphere, a less formal and less complicated forum for copious disputes, due to lack of awareness of its quiddity at the ground root level has abrupted its quantum leap. This paper aims to provide the gist of ADR concerning India by focusing on its purpose, advantages and disadvantages, (fruitful) modes of conflict resolution, highlighting the importance of Lok Adalat, significance and effectiveness of ADR in conflict resolution and ways to overcome the persisting deficiencies.

A Study of Lexico-Semantical Peculiarities of Translation of the Scientific and Technical Text form Urdu to Russian

A Study of Lexico-Semantical Peculiarities of Translation of the Scientific and Technical Text form Urdu to Russian Translation of scientific and technical text is a multidimensional and multifaceted process determined by the System and norm of the two languages involved. It is not only dependent on the two cultures and the communicative situations, but also directly dependent on the referential situation and the functional parameters, of the source / target text. The process of translation is not only a speech act, but also an act of cross-cultural communication and this fact is borne out by the interdisciplinary status of translation studies and its close link with contrastive and text-linguistics; socio and psycholinguistics and semiotics. The 21st century witnessed the emergence of scientific and technical translation as an independent field of study on the international level. The Intercultural and Intercontinental communications made it mandatory for human beings to understand scientific, technical and environmental issues in the world, and to leave their cocoons behind. It only served to underscore the significance that translation studies was to hold in the times to come. There is hardly a Translator or an Interpreter today who has not to deal with translation of scientific and technical materials. Translation of technical text puts a premium on the translator's knowledge of the subject-matter of Source Text. He must take great pains to get familiar with the system of terms in the appropriate field and make good use of technical dictionaries and other books of reference. When new words come into being to denote news object or phenomena, they naturally cannot have regular equivalents in another language. Such equivalents may only gradually evolve as the result of extensive contacts between the two nations. Therefore the translator coming across a new coinage has to interpret its meaning and to choose the appropriate way of rendering it in his translation. It has been observed that many phenomenon, words and terminologies of Urdu language have no regular equivalents, and a number of techniques has been suggested for transformation of such units of translation in Russian. New words are coined in the language to give names to new objects, or phenomena which become known to the people. Thus, research has been conducted in the background of the ever changing in scientific and technological scenario. The fast-track changes and rapid breakthrough in almost all fields in science and technology has made it mandatory for technical and scientific texts to translate into languages, other than the one in which the study or work has been conducted. Selecting this area to work in, the researcher has tried to focus on the problems encountered during the translation of technical and scientific texts from Urdu into Russian. The researcher is seemed mindful of the magnitude of the task, and has therefore delimited the study to focusing on the lexico-semantic peculiarities of translation of scientific and technical text from Urdu into Russian. Russian and Urdu are difficult languages to learn/teach, yet the geographical proximity has made it important for learners and teachers to recognize and identify the issues involved in translating the text. The major problems, in rendering Urdu scientific/technical texts into Russian, lie in the domain of lexico-semantics. Thus, the researcher has made a comparison of the two languages. But in keeping with the nature of the study, has focused only on the major differences — the foremost being the fact that Urdu lexicon suffers from a dearth of scientific and technical terminology. These and other points have been discussed in detail in this study. The parameters of the research demand a theoretical framework, and this has been discussed in the preliminary chapters — 1 & 2. Chapter 3 comprises general scientific and technical lexicon; word- building; structure and features of translation of terminological units and ways of translating multi- component terms etc. Chapter 4 deals with the fundamentals of translation, focusing on the contrastive analysis of translation material. The concluding chapter gives the findings and recommends that the study be used to further explore and exploit the Russian market, in order to give a boost to our economy. This study discusses translation studies, from a variety of perspectives and not merely the pedagogical aspects. The nature of the research combined with the significance of the language in the global scenario, makes this study the first of its kind, and the researcher, without idle boasting, is hopeful that he has begun to set a new trend in Pakistan. Hopefully, this study would be utilized to its utmost and in the spirit in which it has been conducted.
