In Hot-Dip-Aluminized steels, the morphology and the profile of the interface between the aluminum coating and the substrate steel, are affected both by the composition of the molten aluminum as well as by the composition, and even the microstructure, of the substrate steel. This effect has been investigated using optical and scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The reaction between the steel and the molten aluminum leads to the formation of Fe-Al intermetallic compounds on the steel surface. The thickness and the morphology of the interlayer vary with the silicon-content of the molten aluminum. In hot-dip-aluminizing with pure aluminum, the interlayer is ‘thick’ and exhibits a finger-like growth into the steel. With a gradual addition of silicon into the aluminum melt, the thickness of the interlayer decreases and the interface between the interlayer and the substrate successively becomes ‘smoother’.With an increase in the carbon-content of the substrate steel the growth of the interlayer into the steel is impeded by the pearlite phase, whereas the ferrite phase appears to dissolve more readily. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopic studies showed that the interlayer formed in samples aluminized in pure aluminum, essentially consisted of orthorhombic Fe2Al5, while with a gradual addition of silicon into the aluminum melt, a cubic phase based on Fe3Al also started to form in the interlayer and replaced most of the Fe2Al5. It was further observed that the grains of Fe2Al5 phase exhibited a preferred lattice orientation, and also that even when other phases are present in the interlayer, the phase at the transformation front is always the Fe2Al5. Bending experiments carried out on aluminized specimens showed that as the thickness of the inter-metallic layer increased the angle, at which the start of the cracking in the aluminum coating during bending was observed, decreased. Metallographic examination of bent samples showed that the interlayer developed cracking much earlier than the appearance of the cracks on the surface. These experiments suggested that the aluminized steel flats (or sheets) exhibit very limited formability.

Kamal Ahmad Rizvi as a Dramatist

Kamal Ahmed Rizvi (1930-2015) is among the very first people to give credence to Pakistan Television Urdu drama. He is one of the first rate and accomplished dramatists, director, actor, as well as a visualizer. In the world of drama he has a very versatile presence. He is also one of the first persons to affect the transition of the Urdu drama from stage to television, as such, he is an indelible name in the history of our art and theatre. Whenever Pakistan Television drama is mentioned, his name can never be omitted; or if its history is written, it shall be incomplete without reference to him. If Kamal Ahmad Rizvi is called an institution by himself, it shall not be wrong, because he is a creative writer, a translator, a director and a producer; and until now there has been no other individual with like qualities in the history of Pakistan Television, and this is his mark of distinction. ______

Robust Algorithm for Genome Sequence Short Read Error Correction Using Hadoop-Mapreduce

Biological sequences consist of A C G and T in a DNA structure and contain vital information of living organisms. The development of computing technologies, especially NGS technologies have increased genomic data at a rapid rate. The increase in genomic data presents significant research challenges in bioinformatics, such as sequence alignment, short-reads error correction, phylogenetic inference, etc. Next-generation high-throughput sequencing technologies have opened new and thought-provoking research opportunities. In particular, Next-generation sequencers produce a massive amount of short-reads data in a single run. However, these large amounts of short-reads data produced are highly susceptible to errors, as compared to shotgun sequencing. Therefore, there is a peremptory demand to design fast and more accurate statistical and computational tools to analyze these data. This research presents a novel and robust algorithm called HaShRECA for genome sequence short reads error correction. The developed algorithm is based on a probabilistic model that analyzes the potential errors in reads and utilizes the Hadoop-MapReduce framework to speed up the computation processes. Experimental results show that HaShRECA is more accurate, as well as time and space efficient as compared to previous algorithms.
