The objectives of this work was to explore the structural, electronic, elastic, magnetic and thermoelectric properties of the strongly correlated electron system, LnTM (Ln= Dy, Ho, Gd, Yb, Lu, Tb, Er, Tm and TM= Pd, Ag, Rh, Ir) and ScTM (TM= Co, Ni, Pd, Rh, Ir, Pt, Au, Ag and Cu). The procedure used in this work was the full potential linearized augmented plane wave plus local orbital (FP-LAPW+lo) calculations based on density functional theory. The structural, electronic and magnetic properties of these compounds are calculated by LDA, GGA, LDA+U, LDA+SOC and LDA+U+SOC schemes. The calculated lattice parameters are found to be in close agreement with the available experimental results. The localized behavior as well as rela- tivistic e®ects of electrons in the d-states of ScTM (TM= Co, Ni, Pd, Rh, Ir, Pt, Au, Ag and Cu) compounds are also revelled. These compounds have 3d, 4d and 5d orbitals and, hence strong electron-electron correlation and spin orbit coupling (SOC) e®ects were expected therefore the structural and electronic properties are also determined by using the Hubbard potential U to incorporate correlation e®ects, while to consider relatvistic e®ects, SOC is used. The spin-orbit coupling e®ect splits the d/f-state of the elements with in the compounds. The SOC e®ect increases from 3d to 5d transi- tion elements in the ScTM (TM= Co, Ni, Pd, Rh, Ir, Pt, Au, Ag and Cu) compounds, which shows fascinating response of SOC e®ect as electronic structure changes from element to element. The elastic constants of these compounds are also calculated. Our calculated elastic constants values of the compounds are consistent with the available experimental as well theoretical results. From the elastic constants, di®erent mechanical properties such as bulk modulus (B), Young''s modulus (Y), shear modulus (G), Poisson''s ratio (À), Kleinman parameters (³) and anisotropic ratio (A) for the compounds under study are also evaluated. Furthermore, the mechanical parameters i.e; Paugh ratio (B/G) and Cauchy pressure (C00) are calculated to determine the ductililty and brittleness of the materials under study. The obtained me- chanical properties are then applied to ¯nd the sound velocities and Debye temperature. Furthermore, post-DFT calculations are carried out to investi- gate the Seebeck coe±cient and electrical conductivity of the ScTM (TM= Co, Ni, Pd, Rh, Ir, Pt, Au, Ag and Cu) at constant temperature, 300K. High values of Seebeck coe±cient and electrical conductivity are observed for these materials. The considerable values of the calculated Power Factor for these materials at room temperature shows that these materials maybe useful for high temperature thermoelectric devices.

Awareness of the Benefits of Strategic Planning For Educational Institutions

This article aims to determine the benefits of strategic planning for Islamic educational institutions. The method used is a literature review, by collecting various supporting article references from national journals. The results of this study explain, if strategic planning can be made and implemented correctly and supported by leadership commitment, then strategic planning can provide benefits for Islamic educational institutions, including: (1) Strategic planning can strengthen the "critical mass" into a team that compact, because it is directed to adhere to basic values, main systems and common goals, (2) Strategic planning can help to optimize the performance of Islamic educational institutions, (3) Strategic planning can help leaders to always focus attention and adhere to a framework for overall improvement efforts continuous, (4) Strategic planning provides guidelines for daily decision making, and (5) Strategic planning always makes it easy to measure the organization's progress in achieving its goals of improving quality and productivity. The benefits of educational strategic planning are things that need to be considered to create quality Islamic educationh

Eco-Physiological Responses of Sunflower Helianthus Annuus L. Against Various Levels of Rhizospheric Arsenic As and Associated Metals in the Soil

A series of four experiments was performed to evaluate effect of different levels of two inorganic arsenicals on seed germination, vegetative and reproductive growth or yield of sunflower cultivars. First experiment conducted in climatic room using seeds of four sunflower cultivars revealed adverse effects of higher levels of arsenic (6, 8 and 10 mg As/L) on seed germination. Reduction in germination percentage, increased mean germination time, more days to 50 % germination and stunted plumule and radicle growth with poor seedling vigour index depicted stressful effects of arsenic for sunflower seedlings while lower levels of arsenic (2 and 4 mg As/L) proved to be a little bit promoting for seeds to germinate. In further three pot experiments arsenic was applied through soil, irrigation water as well as in combination to two sunflower cultivars and different morphological, physiological and plant water relation parameters were recorded. Arsenic bio-accumulative potential as well as concentrations of 26 different micro, trace and heavy metal ions were also determined in root, shoot, leaves and seeds of sunflower cultivars at crop maturity using ICP-OES. As observed during the experimentation and concluded from physio-chemical analysis of the plant organs, roots were found substantial sink for arsenic in sunflower and least accumulation was recorded in seeds or achenes. Arsenic application in soil proved more stressful than irrigation water alone and overall arsenic application in combination was proved most deterrent for sunflower growth and development. Plant accumulated arsenic according to its levels in rooting medium and availability to plant because in aqueous rhizospheric environment it transforms into various complex compounds and just a fraction is phytoextracted by sunflower roots. Yield was also affected due to deleterious effects of higher concentrations of arsenicals (80 and 100 mg As/kg soil) either as arsenate or arsenite with lower capitulum diameter and reduced hundred achene weight. Both, cultivars or hybrids of sunflower showed similar behavior towards its ability to cope with arsenic levels more than 100 mg As/kg soil with very little phytoextraction potential and accumulation in above ground biomass.
