Soil salinity problems in arid and semiarid areas are very common due to low rainfall, high evapotranspiration and poor water management. Among different factors for low agricultural production in developing countries like Pakistan, the foremost problem is to get sufficient water of good quality at desire place at right time. In Pakistan canal irrigation water available at watercourse head is very low than crops irrigation water requirements. Underground water is used as additional source of water to fulfill crop irrigation needs, while most of our tube well water is not fit for irrigation purpose. The application of such poor quality water deteriorates soil properties and ultimately decreased crop yields and quality. The ultimate objective should be to maximize the supply of irrigation water for agricultural production and the use of poor quality water will increased the area under cultivations. The poor quality water can be used with soil amendments to enhance crop productions and to maintain soil health. An alternative approach is to develop and select salt tolerant cultivar that can be grown successfully under poor quality water irrigation. Keeping above facts in view hydroponics culture and lysimeters experiments were conducted; (1) to determine salt tolerance of some newly approved and candidate cultivars of maize and wheat on the basis of gas exchange, growth and ionic attributes under saline and saline sodic solution culture; (2) to study the influence of organic manure and gypsum amendment on macro and micro-nutrients uptake in wheat grain and maize fodder under water induced salt stress; (3) to study the relationship of plant gas exchange attributes with plant ionic composition, water use efficiency and mineral nutrients uptake; (4) to evaluate the effect of irrigation water varying in EC and SAR on soil salt load, plant leaf stomatal conductance, photosynthetic and transpiration rates. The results depicted that wheat cultivars, SARC-1, V-07096, V-05082, SARC-7 and Pasban-90 showed less reduction in plant photosynthetic rate, dry biomass production, K+: Na+ and C2+: Na+ ratio than V-05003, V- 07076 and V-07194. While in maize cultivars the highest reduction in plant photosynthetic rate, K+: Na+ and plant dry biomass were recorded in Sadaf, FH-963, FH-722 and FH-793 and the minimal in Sahiwal-2002 and Afgoi. Salt tolerant cultivars uptake less Na+ which depicted that Na+ ion exclusion is positively correlated with salt tolerance and plant biomass production. Subsequently, growth and yield response of selected salt tolerant and sensitive 2 cultivars of maize and wheat crops were evaluated in soil culture. Farmyard manure and gypsum were incorporated in soil to investigate their mitigating effects on soil and crops under saline and saline sodic water treatments. Irrigation with saline-sodic water to maize and wheat crops revealed that salt tolerant cultivar, Sahiwal-2002 and V-07096 maintained lower Na+ concentration in leaf sap and higher K+, Ca2+ and K+: Na+ ratio as compared to salt sensitive cultivars, Sadaf and V-05003. From the results it is concluded that farmyard manure and gypsum application partially offset the harmful effects of poor quality water, improved maize fodder and wheat grain yield, plant photosynthetic rate, water use efficiency, membrane stability index, K+: Na+ and mineral nutrients uptake as compared to sole poor quality water application. Organic manure and gypsum addition in soil enhanced the volume of leachates and caused a considerable reduction in soil salt load, soil SAR and improved mineral nutrients uptake. Key words: Poor quality water, K+: Na+, PCA, photosynthetic rate, salt load

طریقت اور شریعت

This paper deals with Shariah and Tariqat. The decrees of Shariah have two kinds. One is related to the body (which is visible) , while the other one is about the soul (in visible) . Shariah is a combination of visible and un visible decrees. Tariqat is not a separate entity, it is cm integral part of Shariah. The people who consider Tariqat as a separate entity-, as a matter offact they are misguided persons. Tariqat is nothing but a subservient to Shariah. For the purification ofsoul and to make one self abiding by the laws of Shariah, the Sufia have proposed some specific practices and activities for their followers. They asked their followers to strictly adhere to these practices. Not only for the followers hut also for the spiritual guides; it is incumbent on them to follow the rules ofShariah whether these are related to body or to the soul. Irrespective of the position of the spiritual guide, he should also abide by the laws ofShariah. His Sufipractices. supernatural events or miracles have no value and no acceptance to the Almighty - Allah. Tariqat must be under the rules of Shariah, other wise it will not be accep

Element of Hopelessness and Meaninglessness in Absurdist Drama

Element of Hopelessness and Meaninglessness in Absurdist Drama Absurdism is a very deep philosophy which focuses on a totally distorted and nihilistic vision of life. This movement got momentum after the devastations of the Second World War when a heavy loss of precious lives threw Europe into the pits of utter dejection and disillusionment. The writers, poets and the philosophers of that era who were the representatives of their society gave vent to their pent up feelings and emotions and wrote extensively about the anguished state of their nation. This dejection which was the outcome of the turmoil created by the Second World War is specially focused on in this thesis. The aim of this research is to highlight the element of the absurd in man’s life which is inevitable. This absurdity in life gives birth to hopelessness and disillusionment. Dejection is a very natural feeling and it leaves a drastic effect on the lives of the human beings. A dejected person totally negates life and develops a negative attitude towards the world. The Absurdist playwrights have made this meaninglessness and despair the core issue of their work. This vision changed the whole scenario of life for them and we find an air of gloominess and dejection prevailing everything in their plays. Keeping in view the approach of these dramatists the researcher wants to probe deeper into the philosophy of life and prove whether the absurd situations in life which create despair and anguish be avoided by thinking rationally and facing life in a real perspective or whether a nihilistic approach like that of the Absurdists’ is the ultimate outcome. It is a very vast and complex issue and for such an issue quantitative approach cannot be followed so the researcher has adopted the qualitative approach. The research is text- based and different libraries have been consulted for collecting the material. The electronic media also helped in making it an authentic piece of writing. As this research is text-based so the researcher has tried her best to make it more descriptive in the light of the material available. Different Absurdist playwrights have been studied for conducting the research but the two eminent dramatists Samuel Beckett and Harold Pinter have been specifically focused on for analyzing the theme of Hopelessness and Meaninglessness. They belong to ‘The Theatre of the Absurd’ and the streak of absurdity evident in their plays displays a total bleak picture of life. In this research work an attempt is being made to let the readers visualize life in a more realistic perspective. The researcher wants the readers to analyze that life has to be accepted with all its colors no matter how dull or bright they are. The research concludes with a very rational approach towards life that it is a precious gift from God and we can make it worth living by a possible return to religion and by having a firm faith.
