Automated vertebrae analysis from medical images plays an important role in computer aided diagnosis (CAD). It provides an initial and early identification of various vertebral abnormalities to doctors and radiologists. Vertebrae segmentation and classification are important but difficult tasks in medical imaging due to low contrasts in image, noise and high topological shape variations in radiological scans. It becomes even more challenging when dealing with various deformities and pathologies present in the vertebral scans like osteoporotic vertebral fractures. In this work, we want to address the challenging problem of vertebral image analysis for vertebra segmentation and classification. In the past, various traditional imagery techniques were employed to address these problems. Recently, deep learning techniques have been introduced in biomedical image processing for segmentation and characterization of several abnormalities. These techniques are becoming popular in solving various medical image analysis problems due to their robustness and accuracy. In this research, we present a solution of vertebrae segmentation and classification problem with the help of deep learning approach. We present a novel combination of traditional region based level-set with deep learning framework in order to extract the shape of vertebral bones accurately; which would be able to handle the deformities in the vertebral bones precisely and efficiently. After vertebrae segmentation, we further extend the work to abnormal vertebrae classification with the help of deep learning approach. This novel framework would be able to help the medical doctors and radiologists with better visualization of vertebral bones and providing the initial automated classification of vertebrae to be normal or abnormal. The proposed method of vertebrae segmentation was successfully tested on different datasets with various fields of views. The first dataset comprises of 173 CT scans of thoracolumbar (thoracic and lumbar) vertebrae in sagittal view, collected from a local hospital. The second dataset comprises 73 CT scans of cervical vertebrae in sagittal view, also collected from a local hospital. The third dataset comprises 20 CT scans of thoracolumbar (thoracic and lumbar) vertebrae in sagittal view collected from spine segmentation challenge CSI 2014. The forth dataset comprises 25 CT scans of lumbar vertebrae in sagittal view collected from spine segmentation challenge CSI 2016. Lastly, we have utilized the same locally collected set of 173 CT scans of thoracolumbar (thoracic and lumbar) vertebrae and extracted in axial view to perform the segmentation task. For classification purpose, we have utilized the locally collected set of 173 CT scans of thoracolumbar (thoracic and lumbar) vertebrae as these include osteoporotic vertebral fractures in it. The details of these datasets have been presented in respective sections. We have achieved promising results on our proposed techniques. The evaluation of the segmentation performance on the datasets with various machines and field of views helped us to ensure the robustness of our proposed method. On validation sets of these datasets, we have achieved an average dice score of around 95% for vertebrae segmentation; and accuracy of above 80% for the vertebrae classification. The detailed results have been presented in the results section. These results reveal that our proposed techniques are competitive over the other state of the arts in terms of accuracy, efficiency, flexibility and time.

58. Al-Mujadilah/The Pleading Woman

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

58:01
a. Allah has heard the woman who was pleading with you, concerning the issue of her husband, and was complaining to Allah.
b. And Allah was hearing the conversation between you.
c. For Allah is All-Listening, All-Watching.

58:02
a. Those among you who estrange their women/wives by declaring them to be as their mothers;
b. should know that they can never be made as their mothers, for their mothers are only those who gave birth to them.
c. Indeed, they utter what is highly contemptuous, baseless and false.
d. Yet, assuredly, Allah will be Pardoning, Forgiving to the one who repudiates by zihaar through an atonement.

58:03
a. Those of the husbands who thus estrange their women/wives, then they wish to retract what they had uttered, let them free a captive before any skin-to-skin cohabitation between them.
b. Thus you are being warned so that you will never utter such contemptuous words again.
c. And Allah is Well-Aware of what you do.

58:04
a. And whoever cannot find any captive to set free or does not have the means of doing so, then let him keep Fast for two consecutive months, without any interruption, before any skin-to-skin cohabitation between them.
b. And whoever is unable for reasons of ill health or old age, then let him feed sixty poor people.
c. All this is decreed so that you may believe in Allah, HIS Injunctions and HIS Messenger.
d. And these are the limits set by Allah.
e. And the disbelievers/disobedient - those who will not comply...

Lunar Calendar and Ramadan Effect on Islamic Mutual Funds Performance in Pakistan

This report is principally intended to ascertain out the result of the lunar calendar with special focus on the holy month of Ramadan on the operation of Islamic mutual funds in Pakistan. Economic activity in Pakistan demands a different turn due to observation of fast and short working hours in the country in the month of Ramadan. This work utilizes the logit model to investigate the impact of lunar calendar generally and the holy month of Ramadan, specifically along the net asset values of the mutual fund. This study confirms lower expected growth of net asset value in the month of Ramadan and the other stages of the religious sentiment. Economic activity regains pace after Ramadan and Zulhajjah as evident from the probable increase of net asset value of the Islamic mutual funds in the month of Shawwal & Moharram following months of the Ramadan and Zulhajjah respectively.

The Potential for Breeding Upland Cotton under Limited Water Conditions

The primary objective of the present work described in this manuscript was to develop some understanding of improving water stress tolerance in upland cotton through selection and breeding. Root is an important plant organ related to drought stress and significant achievements have been obtained, using rooting technique, for other stresses e.g. salinity. To achieve the objective, 80 cotton accessions were screened out measuring four morphological plant characters including root length, and one physiological parameter i.e. cell membrane injury. Water stress imposed for 45 days significantly reduced shoot length, root length, shoot fresh weight and shoot dry weight of 80 cotton accessions, and these accessions differed to a great extent from each other, and sensitivity varied from very tolerant to very sensitive. Some of the accessions like B-557 and DPL-26 showed small leakage of ions due to stress, and were revealed as moisture stress tolerant accessions. Cell membrane injury showed a positive relationship with moisture stress tolerance. The injury was less in tolerant accessions, thus it proved to be a reliable indicator of water status. Indices of stress tolerance showed a wide range of variability based upon parameters measured. The genetic basis of variation in moisture stress tolerance was investigated using the diallel technique. Both additive and dominance properties of genes appeared to control variation at low and high moisture stress, but genes acting cumulatively were more associated with the stress phenomenon. Due to the additive gene effects, estimates of narrow sense heritabilities for water stress tolerance were greater, showing that rapid improvement in the character may be made through single plant selection from F2 segregating population, based upon final productivity of seed cotton yield. Physiological mechanisms like cell membrane injury, relative water content and excised leaf water loss are also conditioned by polygenes, and thus may be improved through selection. The overall conclusion of this work is that cotton varies for moisture stress tolerance, and this tolerance has a reasonably good additive component, and further breeding work would be valuable for developing upland cotton cultivars suitable for moisture deficit area.
