Health and long term care is growing exponentially in wearable biomedical systems. Wearable and flexible diagnostic systems can contribute towards the timely care of patients suffering with chronic health conditions, particularly chronic neurological disorders and cardiovascular diseases. Thousands of lives can be save by using diagnostics and therapeutic techniques. Existing ambulatory system is not able to perform continuous remote monitoring of patients. From the literature review, it is stated that flexible wearable electronic systems have gained intense attention in the last two decades. Wearable antennas have an enormous potential in future healthcare and children applications. The performance such as durability, flexibility, compactness and configurability of flexible antenna is much better than other devices. Due to these reasons the performance process of flexible wearable antenna should be evaluated. The power consumption demand is really dependent on the peculiar application of wearable antennas. However, WBAN devices are mostly battery powered and the battery life time is required to be up to several years. This dissertation shows the designs of flexible and wearable antenna used for biomedical applications in the near vicinity of the human torso. Primarily, a planar flexible antenna is designed on a flannel substrate with the permittivity of 1.45, 2mm thickness and loss tangent of 0.044. The antenna consists of shield conductive textile with a four-sided slot and a compact ground plane to improve the impedance matching characteristics which provides wider bandwidth. The proposed antenna is designed with a flimsy and flexible textile substrate with a measured reflection coefficient below -10dB. Antenna parameters such as radiation pattern, bandwidth, gain and radiation pattern are evaluated by using measurements and simulations. The projected design has low power consumptions due to the accomplishment of gain results that was less than 5dB in the frequency between 3GHz and 15GHz. Additionally, this work explores the possibilities of using natural rubber in the conception of a simple microstrip patch antenna. The antenna is designed to work in the UWB spectrum, and the properties of substrate such as thickness, metal width and permittivity are measured. From the results it is concluded that the return loss of the antenna is significantly amended due to the decrease in the substrate thickness and permittivity. In disparity, decreasing the metal thickness will increase the return loss. It is observed, that thicker substrate will yield higher directivity, and lower value of relative permittivity will result in lower directivity. ix Finally, the proposed flexible antennas are validated to meet the requirements for wearable devices, such as being flexible, compact and mechanically robust. Therefore, the influence of bending and wet conditions is also investigated. The simulated and measured results show that the proposed models give satisfactory results under bending and wet environments.

MIND OVER MATTER: THE REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES FOR COGNITIVE ALERTNESS AMONG PAKISTANI GERIATRIC POPULATION

Background and Objective: Aging is influenced by culture, individual experiences, and socio-demographic characteristics along with societal expectations. Cognitive functioning and activity level in geriatric population may alter their participation in daily life activities thus this study aims to explore the required physical and social activities for cognitive alertness among Pakistani Geriatric population. Methodology: An observation based study of 169 aging individuals who performed on MoCA for cognitive functioning and interviewed on IPAQ for duration of physical activity in everyday life. Results: It is an observational study, conducted among the geriatric population of different areas of Pakistan. A total number of 169 individuals participated out of which 59 % were males and 40 % were females with a majority of the population 74% falling between 65-75 years of age. It was found that 59% of the male and only 19% of the female had 22 score on MoCA for cognitive functioning and these individuals were practicing physical activities such as brisk walk for 3 days a week for more than 40 minutes and are involve at least once a week in social activities. Conclusion: The research finding concluded that physical activities and social gathering both has impact on cognitive function of geriatric population to participate actively in daily activities.

An Analysis of Factors Affecting Individual Innovation: A Case Study of Selected Pakistani Organizations

An Analysis of Factors Affecting Individual Innovation: A Case Study of Selected Pakistani Organizations Individual innovation provides basis for high competitiveness and improves fires performance. These are the employees whose capacity and capability for creativity and innovation provides the organization foundation for improved-performance and sustainable competitive advantage. The topic of individual innovation and creativity is of greater interest for organizations and entrepreneurs because individual innovation gives birth to firm-level innovation. Employee innovativeness not only enables an organization to choose from a broader range of products and procedures but also facilitates the organization to constantly adapt to a changing environment and to establish competitive advantages in strategic competition. This variety provides the organization with flexibility with which it can respond to external demands and opportunities. Thus, employee innovations can be the inputs for a firm to innovate. However, research in this area is still at nascent stage in Asia Pacific, particularly in South Asia. In Pakistan, more specifically, no such efforts have been made to study individual innovation in context to its antecedent factors. This study developed and tested a model of individual innovation and its four antecedent factors; creativity, self-leadership, knowledge management and culture. Data was collected from 227 respondents from thirty five randomly selected manufacturing organizations in Pakistan. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to extract the factors and measuring factor loadings for each construct. Construct reliability was tested using Cronbach's Alpha. Finally, Path Analysis was conducted to test the hypothesized model. The entire criteria for model-fit were achieved successfully. Results showed that creativity had a positive relationship with individual innovation. A significant mediating role of creativity was found for self-leadership and knowledge management (KM).The data did not support the last hypothesis and showed no significant indirect positive effect of culture on individual innovation. Although a small positive indirect effect was found but that was statistically non- significant.
