The purpose of the study was to understand the pedagogical beliefs of science teachers in professional nursing education. The study also sought to understand their personal, professional beliefs and how these beliefs influenced their practices. Demographic questionnaires, along with life history interviews and classroom observations were used as key methods for data collection; life-history is used as a methodological lens for in-depth exploration of participants’ lives. Demographic data collected from 26 private, Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) registered schools of nursing revealed that 71% of the science teachers were subject specialists with a masters’ degree in science, while the rest are doctors, engineers, pharmacists, and nurses. Based on demographic findings three subject specialists, two female and one male were selected as participants. Three life- history interviews and three classroom observations were conducted for each participant. An analysis of interviews and classroom observation data revealed that the participants entered the professional teaching context with pedagogical beliefs that developed in two contexts, their own schooling and the out of school contexts. Both of these contexts influenced their pedagogical beliefs. All the participants were nurtured differently, went to different academic institutions, were exposed to different professional development opportunities, and worked in different contexts (academic and professional institutions). Their biographies revealed that these differences shaped their experiences, perceptions, and reasons according to the ways they lived their lives, and conceptualized and practiced teaching in professional schools. The findings suggest a strong relationship between the science teachers’ experiences of teaching in professional nursing education and their developing pedagogies. The dynamic nature of their teaching and learning beliefs were affected by their personal, social, cultural, historical, and contextual influences. Participants’ understanding of the nature of science (NOS) was found to be one of the major influences in the pedagogical development and pedagogical beliefs. Cognitive dissonance was observed in their beliefs about the NOS and their reported and enacted teaching practices. The reported and the enacted beliefs of the participants imply that conceptually they are still holding a positivist view and hence positivist stance, but pedagogically they seemed inclined towards the constructivist views and positions. It was interesting to find similarities between cases that were from different contexts, yet to find differences in their professional practices when they belonged to the same profession and had similar academic backgrounds.

طلب معاش کی اہمیت اور اس کی ترقی کے اسباب قرآن اور سنت کی روشنی میں

Trade has been considered as the most important mode of caring livelihood.  Trade is considered as sole biggest medium because all other modes carry secondary position, as they all derive from trade in one way or the other. That’s way crafts and services have gained much success in this era of machinery and technology. In spite of all this trade assumes the same highest positions in this era too. Islam has not left trade on its own but has framed principles. These principles are not only helpful on individual scale but they give benefits to whole community. It benefits in this world and hereafter of its users. Islam is an eternal religion, so it addresses all problems of this era and of upcoming in its teachings. We can gain both worldly and hereafter benefits by acting upon Islamic principles. We have glorious examples of past traders who visited the whole world in order to carry trade. They trade far and wide on the basis of Islamic principles. They not only maintained their businesses, but also preached Islam through their just dealings and humble behavior. Their customers or the people who come into their contact were so impressed that they not only became Muslims but also changed their traditions, Customs, culture and even languages. This article discusses the reasons that explicate the beauty of Trade.

Pakistan Resistance Against the British Rule: An Assessment of the Frontier Uprising of 1897

The Indian North-West Frontier has been traversed by many invaders, from the time of great Persian empire till the formation of modern Afghanistan, for the attack on India. The Britons knew the strategic importance of this Frontier and hence after annexing Punjab in 1849, made strenuous efforts for its protection. In order to keep the tribesmen of the Indian North-West Frontier under their influence, the Britons devised the policy of levying fines and putting blockades and sending expeditions against them, if the first two measures failed to achieve their objectives. In the summer of 1897, the whole Frontier, from Tochi to Malakand and Tirah, roused against the colonial British. The uprising commenced with the Maizar incident on 10 June 1897, followed by a series of risings in Swat, Mohmand and Tirah. To suppress the tribes, punitive expeditions were planned. Malakand, Buner, Mohmand and Tirah Field Forces were formed and a huge army was deployed. The two divisions which left Kohat for Tirah on 11 October 1897, were better equipped than any division that had taken the field since 1857. From Maizar to Swat, severe punishment was inflicted upon the Pukhtuns. Houses were destroyed, villages burnt, heavy fines in money and arms imposed and agreements favourable to the British extracted. The submission of the tribes was completed by April 1898. The Durand Line Agreement and demarcation of the boundary line, the role of Afghan Amir and his Sipah Salar, the retention of fortified posts, role of mullas, the aggressive forward policy of 1890s, Kabul’s successful operation in Kafiristan, exaggerated news of the Turkish victory against the Greeks, local dissatisfaction with the colonial administrators and their negligence of the local affairs proved the main causes of the uprising of 1897. Most of the tribesmen of the Indian North-West Frontier took arms against the mighty power of the day, but lack of proper planning and discipline, differences among the local Pukhtuns, false claims of the Sartor Faqir of the would be divine help and the advance weapon and warfare tactics of the colonial troops compelled the tribesmen to give up the idea of a prolonged resistance. The British, who were masters of the Indian colony, learnt a lot from the uprising of 1897 and reshaped their policy in its light. While, for the Pukhtun tribes the uprising of 1897 proved a futile activity. They neither learnt from it nor reshaped their policy, despite its bringing a huge damages to them both in men and money.
