This dissertation is based on the exploration of the professional development practices of a school and of the role of the principal in ensuring the effective professional development of teachers. The study was carried in a higher secondary school in Karachi, Pakistan. The school might be considered as effective in terms of students' achievements at the Board Examinations. However, it would seem simplistic to attribute the school's success solely to the professional development of teachers. There is a combination of other factors, which were identified as contributing to school effectiveness. The study showed that there are many and varied professional development activities carried out in the school. But professional development is not only carried our through professional development courses or workshops. There are other areas, which can contribute to professional development such as appraisal (identification of teachers' professional development needs), reflective practice and Follow-up. The findings suggest that appraisal is used for two purposes in the school--for identification of teachers' professional development needs, and for evaluation of the teachers' performance. Reflective practice and Follow-up have not received essential attention in the school, and they are practiced on the irregular basis. The principal does a great deal to attempt to ensure effective professional development for his teachers. He encourages and supports professional development of teachers in a variety ways, but the absence of a planned and structured approach to professional development means that, professional development is not so effective as it might be. The study offers some recommendations to school and its principal, which may be useful for ensuring effective professional development. Among these are suggestions to prepare a structured plan of professional development of teachers in the school and to separate two kinds of appraisal. This report also includes the lessons I learned from the study. The findings of the study will be useful for me as a future teacher educator in my native context of Kyrgyzstan, as I found many similarities in organization of the professional development in both systems. I also learned some skills necessary for conducting qualitative research.

Post-Covid 19, Online consumer purchase behavior in Pakistan

Since Covid-19, there has been a rise in e-commerce and online brands' influence on consumer buying behavior. It is crucial to investigate the factors that impact online consumer purchase behavior. Applying the theory of reasoned action (TRA), our study seeks to assess the extent to which customer satisfaction and perceived risks build trust and how trust, consumer engagement, and ease of purchase would act as reasons for consumers to engage in e-commerce in Pakistan. Using data gathered from 400 respondents via a questionnaire, we have demonstrated the precise relationship between these six constructs. Results indicate that customer satisfaction positively influences trust while perceived risks negatively affect it and that trust and consumer engagement positively and directly impact purchase behavior. Online retailers should improve these factors and modify the online environment to increase sales from their e-channels and improve customer retention

Traffic Intensity Based Efficient Packet Scheduling

Minimum end-to-end delay, packet delay variations or packet jitter, and packet drop for given throughput in fixed and wireless networks are well-known important factors. These factors play important role in achieving better Quality of Service (QoS). Furthermore, these also have evident effects on network utilization, efficiency and better Quality of Experience (QoE) for services being carried over networks. Traffic intensities (TI) are generally used for dimensioning and capacity planning in telecom networks. Generally, TI depends on point of presence (POP) and its characteristics. These characteristics include type of area served, customer density, usage pattern and grade of service (GOS). Most of time, for TI in busiest hour is used to determine required capacities of network resources. This thesis research work extends concept of traffic intensity for period-to-period base rather than busiest hour and utilize traffic intensity being offered for packet scheduling in wireless and wired networks. This will provide an opportunity to manage packet forwarding decisions based on dynamics of planned Traffic intensities for given POP and will enable us optimize forwarding decisions and hence optimize delay, jitter, drop behavior of network nodes. To evaluate effects of packet scheduling based on TI, a model network was simulated using NS2 and Traffic Intensity Based Packet Scheduling (TIPS) algorithm was used to schedule packets from various sources to common destination. During analysis impact on end-to-end delay, jitter, and throughput and drop behavior of network nodes was evaluated and compared with various other available approaches. It is found that TIPS offers optimized results for better QoS and network utilization as compared to existing packet scheduling approaches like Drop Tail, Round Robin, Deficit Round Robin, RED and SFQ. This thesis document will provide details of packet scheduling methodology, TIPS algorithm, simulation results and their comparison with above packet scheduling algorithms.
