This thesis reports a study conducted in Northern Areas of Pakistan. The purpose of the study is to explore the WSIP experiences of a government and a private school head teacher. A qualitative case study method was used to investigate the subject matter. The participants were selected on the basis of pre-determined criteria that they have participated in WSIP intervention, worked for at least one year after completion of programme and successfully implemented their WSIP learning in their schools. The findings of the study showed that WSIP intervention has been instrumental in bringing about a significant effect on the professional approaches of head teachers. It was depicted in their attitudinal changes towards their roles and improvement in professional capabilities. By modifying their attitudes, they have realised the importance of community participation, team building approach and outcomes of encouraging teachers. They are sensitised towards students' learning and their developmental needs. To meet students' needs, they have brought about visible changes in their routine practices. They include initiation of portfolios, creation of learning environment in the classrooms which focuses on maximum students' participation and introduction of new assessment procedures. They have developed their professional capacities through improving presentation skills, observatory skills, motivational skills, and improvements in reflective practices. Since the role of head teacher is directly associated with all the stakeholders of a school community, and success of any initiation depends upon active involvement of head teacher, therefore the study recommends that this aspect must be given more attention to further strengthen the timely needed capabilities of head teachers. This ultimately can maximise students' performance through developed head teacher’s approaches for effective involvement of all the stakeholders in school improvement matters.
مارماڈیوک پکھتال مارماڈیوک پکھتال انگریزی کے بلند پایہ انشاء پرداز انگریز تھے، مدت تک مصر اور ترکی میں رہے تھے اور وہیں اسلام کے تاثرات نے ان کے دل میں گھر کیا تھا اور اسلام کے سچے پیرو ہوگئے تھے، ۱۹۲۰ء میں لندن میں ان سے جمعہ کی نماز میں اسلامی جماعت خانہ میں ملاقات ہوا کرتی تھی، وہ بالکل مسلمانوں کی طرح نماز پڑھا کرتے تھے، جماعت خانہ میں ان کی ترکی ٹوپی نماز کے لئے رکھی رہتی تھی، جس کو وہ نماز کے وقت پہن لیتے تھے، لارڈ کرومر کے زمانہ میں مصر میں تھے۔ ترکی اور رواں عربی زبان بولتے تھے اور جانتے تھے، ترکوں کی ہمدردی میں طرابلس کے زمانہ میں کچھ رسائل لکھے تھے، لندن میں ان سے گھنٹوں باتیں ہوا کرتی تھیں، اس کے بعد ہی وہ بمبئی کرانیکل کے ایڈیٹر ہوکر آگئے، چنانچہ وہاں بھی ان سے ملاقات ہوئی، پھر وہ حیدرآباد دکن چادر گھاٹ ہائی اسکول کے ہیڈماسٹر اور وہاں کی سول سروس کے اتالیق ہوگئے تھے، اس زمانہ میں جب حیدرآباد جانا ہوا، محبت سے مجھے اپنے یہاں بلاتے رہے، اسی زمانہ میں قرآن پاک کا ترجمہ شروع کیا، غالباً ۱۹۲۷ء میں مدراس میں جب ان سے ملاقات ہوئی تو اپنے انگریزی ترجمہ کا ذکر کیا، اور سورۂ مریم کا ترجمہ دیکھنے کو دیا، وہ کہتے تھے کہ مولوی محمد علی لاہوری کے غلط سلط ترجمہ کو انگریزوں کے ہاتھوں میں دے کر شرماتا ہوں اور جی چاہتا ہے کہ اس کا ایک آتشیں ترجمہ کروں جو دلوں کو گرما دے، چنانچہ حیدرآباد کی مالی امداد سے مصر جاکر اس ترجمہ کو پورا کیا اور چھپا اور یہ ان کا بڑا کارنامہ ہے، یہ وہ نومسلم انگریز تھے جو ایمان کے ساتھ عملاً نماز و روزہ کے پابند تھے، اﷲ تعالیٰ ان پر رحم و کرم فرمائے۔
Berdasarkan hasil observasi dimana hasil belajar siswa SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli Barat Kota Gunungsitoli Barat masih rendah ditentukan banyak faktor, diantaranya adalah penggunaan media pembelajaran masih kurang efektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan penggunaan media pembelajaran dalam proses pembelajaran; (2) mengetahui korelasi secara signifikan antara penggunaan media pembelajaran dengan hasil belajar siswa, (3) besarnya kontribusi penggunaan media pembelajaran terhadap hasil belajar siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli Barat Kota Gunungsitoli, dengan jumlah sampel 32 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu: (1) angket model skala Likert yang telah diuji kesahihan dan keandalan. Adapun temuan penelitian ini yaitu: (1) ada korelasi antara penggunaan media pembelajaran dengan hasil belajar siswa; (2) besarnya kontribusi penggunaan media pembelajaran dengan hasil belajar adalah 79%; (3) berdasarkan pengujian hipotesis dimana thitung > ttabel yaitu 3,815 > 1,697, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan antara penggunaan media pembelajaran dengan hasil belajar siswa.
This research aimed at preparing effective English learning materials to help enhance the proficiency of intermediate (Pre-University) students of English of the public sector colleges in Pakistan. In the light of this aim, the researcher identified gaps between the actual English learning of the intermediate students of public sector colleges and National Curriculum of Pakistan for English language education and prepared English learning materials to reduce these gaps. For the purpose of identifying gaps the researcher prepared a test based on the targets of the curriculum and administered to the students of 20 colleges in various districts of the Punjab (a province of Pakistan). The results of the test through which the proficiency was gauged showed that the students could not comprehend and interact with the text in reading and listening successfully and were not able to operate language in writing and speaking. They were mostly found copying and repeating the language of the test items. However, they were slightly good at the formal aspects of language. The answers supplied by the learners indicated that most of them lacked background knowledge and skills to interact and operate language. Either they did not answer at all or answered in an inappropriate and broken language. In the light of these results and information about how the students used language in answering the items of the test, the researcher prepared learning materials with a view that it should have capacity to engage students meaningfully; provide the students with meta-cognitive skills and carry such stimuli that could generate required motivation among students. It was also taken care that the materials addressed the difficulties of the learners which were there on account of non-native setting. These materials were initially validated through the critical analysis by some teachers and students. The impact of these materials was later tested through an experimental phase of the study on experiment group and control group. The results of the pretest and posttest showed that collectively the impact of the materials was good. However, some students did not perform well. The researcher’s conclusion was that materials prepared may reduce the gaps between the English learning of intermediate students of public sector colleges and National Curriculum of Pakistan.
