This study dealt with confusions in the context of teaching of algebra at the lower secondary level. A major problem in the present situation in the teaching of mathematics in Pakistan is that many students of mathematics do not have a conceptually sound understanding of algebra. That is, some students do not know how to solve certain problems, as they are not given the opportunity to develop their thinking skills. Some students want to ask questions but many teachers do not encourage them to do so. This study was conducted in one government higher secondary school, with two mathematics teachers and eight students of classes seven and eight. The specific question that guided the investigation was "How can teachers be helped in dealing with students' conceptual problems in algebra at lower secondary level”. This study consisted of three stages, the pre-intervention stage, the intervention stage, and the post intervention stag. In the pre-intervention stage I interviewed the study teachers and students, tested the students, and observed the specific mathematics lessons to explore problems which students faced during the conceptually learning of algebra, and how teachers delt with these problems. At this stage I found that students had several conceptual problems like, the use of wrong signs, smaller and greater numbers, like and unlike terms, and misconceptions about power and base. These problems may be related to the teaching methods because the teachers were using inappropriate methods of solving equation. It was further noted that teachers held limited knowledge of teaching algebra, and were emphasising the completion of the syllabus, which created a tense environment in the class, where learning without understanding and reasoning occurred. In the intervention stage, an attempt was made to try to solve some of the problems While there was a shortage of time, there was evidence to indicate that change was taking place in the teaching and understanding of basic concepts in algebra. In the post intervention stage, I co- planned lessons with teachers and found a change in attitude of the teachers. During this study, I faced many problems and constraints and sometimes felt frustrated, but slowly and gradually, I overcame these problems. The results of the study showed that while there was a slight change in teacher's attitude, any significant effect have to take place over a much longer period.

Islamic Microfinance: An Overview and Prospects in Pakistan

This paper will highlight the significance importance of the Islamic microfinance working in Pakistan as well as across the world. In 2007, the Great economic damage the global economy of the world including United States, European Union as well as Asia, it made the researcher to study about the alternate system in the replacement of Conventional Financial System, after that study and research they recognized that there is no concept of interest in Islamic Financial System, it is totally based on asset-based system, this recognition shift their area of interest from conventional financial system to Islamic financial system. Islamic financialSystem plays a significant role in economic growth of a country through accumulation of deposits and providing the plate form of financing to speed up economic activities. In the last two decades, the traditional microfinance is replaced by the Islamic microfinance in Pakistan as well as in the whole world. This paper will highlight the working methodology of Islamic microfinance models and institutions that how these Islamic microfinance institutions working asan interest free sector in Pakistan and in the world. The paper is also highlighting the difference between conventional micro financing and Islamic micro financing that what are the models and functions that differs the Islamic micro financing from the traditional micro financing.

Bioaccessibility of Phytochemicals from Sorghum [Sorghum Bicolor L. Moench] Sprouts Treated With Novel Technologies

Germination generally increases the nutritive value of seeds by modulating phytochemical composition depending on processing conditions. Therefore, the current study was conducted to compare the effect of emerging processing techniques such as ultrasound (US) and microwave (MW) on phytochemicals composition of sorghum sprouts. Overnight steeped sorghum grains were divided into four groups. The first group was designated as control without applying any treatment. Second group was subjected to ultrasonic treatment using 40% & 60% amplitude for 5 & 10 min. Third group was exposed to microwave treatment at 450 W & 700 W power levels for 15 & 30 sec. Similarly, fourth group was treated with combined MW & US application for different intervals. Microwave and sonication processing significantly improved the germination percentage and growth parameters, hence the phytochemical profile improvement. After germination, sprouts subjected to different quantitative analysis showed that with increased germination significant reduction was observed in anti-nutritional components such as alkaloid, saponin, tannin and phytate contents while contents of total free amino acids, sterols, and digestible proteins and carbohydrates increased. The oil yield and fatty acid composition increased with increasing amplitude of processing techniques. Antioxidant activities and HPLC analysis for individual phenolic compounds also improved significantly with high germination. In-vitro protein digestibility was significantly higher while bio-accessibility of polyphenol and flavonoid was insignificantly affected. From the present investigation, ultrasound processed treatment US1 (40% amplitude for 5 min) and microwave processed treatment MW2 (700 watt for 5 sec) are found paramount to improve the composition and bio-accessibility of phytochemicals through enhanced germination of seeds.
