During the early years of human development, love, care, attention and education are basic needs (Layzer & Goodson, 2006). This early education of young children also includes the role of play as a vital component of their learning. The curriculum for Early Childhood Education and Development (2007) also stresses upon the importance of play as part of the daily curricula and in co-curricular activities. It is also observed that this process of learning is more effective when children perform associatively. However in the early years play can be used in various forms in order to facilitate the learning of different concepts. Therefore, it is important to recognize the significance of associative play in early years education and development. This study has explored early childhood teachers' perceptions and practices about associative play to support young children's cognitive development. For this purpose the study was carried out with 3-4 years children in a private school of Karachi. Further, the study also looked at the early years teachers role on promoting associative play as a part of teaching learning process. The study also highlights the role and responsibilities of teachers on how to integrate associative play in their daily lessons plans. To carry out the study, qualitative exploratory method was applied which included in-depth observations of teachers practicing associative play in their own classrooms. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted to further explore teachers' perceptions about associative play and its integration in curricular and co-curricular activities. The findings suggest that playing with peers enabled children learn more effectively and contributed to the different domains of cognitive development including enhancing their language skills, their imagination and their problem solving ability. Moreover, both the participants highlighted upon the role of ECD teachers in integrating associative play in their teaching pedagogies that could lead towards the efficacy in student learning outcomes. The study recommended that it is important to plan such activities in which associative play can caters the cognitive needs of early years children (3-4 years). Thus this study suggests that novice teachers should be trained well in order to integrate the process of play and teaching more efficiently.

Frequency of Cardiovascular Complications in Coronavirus-19 infected Patients during the second wave in a tertiary care Hospital of Lahore, Pakistan Cardiovascular Complications in COVID-19 patients

Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) affects the cardiorespiratory systems by causing inflammation of the circulatory systems, hence, causing more cardiac complications in COVID-19 patients Objective: To observe the frequency of cardiac complications in COVID-19 patients during the second wave Methods: 235 COVID-19 patients presenting with cardiac complication to the Cardiology Department of Mayo Hospital, Lahore during 6 month periods of second wave of COVID-19 were included. Data regarding the medical history, age, gender was taken and the observed cardiac complication were noted Results: There were 76.6% male patients and 23.4% female patients. 56.2 % patients were already hypertensive, 37.9% were diabetic, 18.3% had familial history of cardiac diseases. The cardiovascular manifestations observed were, myocardial infarction (57.82%), 7.3% had angina, 21.3% had acute coronary syndrome and 12.3% had non ST elevation myocardial infarction. Conclusions: Our study suggests that there is a prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in COVID-patients which is a major concern as they are at increased risk for severe infection.

Resolvability in Wheel Related Graphs and Nanostructures

Resolvability in graphs has appeared in numerous applications of graph theory, e.g. in pattern recognition, image processing, robot navigation in networks, computer sciences, combinatorial optimization, mastermind games, coin-weighing problems, etc. It is well known fact that computing the metric dimension for an arbitrary graph is an NP-complete problem. Therefore, a lot of research has been done in order to compute the metric dimension of several classes of graphs. Apart from calculating the metric dimension of graphs, it is natural to ask for the characterization of graph families with respect to the nature of their metric dimension. In this thesis, we study two important parameters of resolvability, namely the metric dimension and partition dimension. Partition dimension is a natural generalization of metric dimension as well as a standard graph decomposition problem where we require that distance code of each vertex in a partition set is distinct with respect to the other partition sets. The main objective of this thesis is to study the resolving properties of wheel related graphs, certain nanostructures and to characterize these classes of graphs with respect to the nature of their metric dimension. We prove that certain wheel related graphs and convex polytopes generated by wheel related graphs have unbounded metric dimension and an exact value of their metric dimension is determined in most of the cases. We also study the metric dimension and partition dimension of 2-dimensional lattices of certain nanotubes generated by the tiling of the plane and prove that these 2-dimensional lattices of nanotubes have discrepancies between their metric dimension and partition dimension. We also compute the exact value of metric dimension for an infinite class of generalized Petersen networks denoted by P(n; 3) by giving answer to an open problem raised by Imran et al. in 2014, which complete the study of metric dimension for the class of generalized Petersen networks P(n; 3).
