Alternative conceptions of science teachers regarding different scientific concepts influences students understanding, and as a result teaching and learning processes in science remain unproductive. Traditional rote methods of teaching and learning are one of the factors which do not allow the teachers, as well as students, to bring about any change in alternative conceptions and understanding with regard to scientifically accepted knowledge. Many research studies in this area provide a baseline for finding out alternative conceptions and trying to bring the learners closer to the scientific points of view. This study was conducted with two teachers of a government school to find out the possibilities and challenges in trying to bring possible change in their alternative conceptions of inter-conversion of energy, which is an abstract scientific concept. Qualitative paradigm along with the design of action research was used, and were assumed to be helpful in describing the whole process of the study and providing a chance for professional development, both for the researcher and the sampled teachers accordingly. Selected activity cards, handouts and interviews were used to elicit ideas from the teachers. Discrepant events (DEs) along with the Predict-Explain-Observe-Explain (PEOE) strategies were used to challenge teachers' prior knowledge about the topic by providing them with the related materials to do the activities by themselves. Certain activities were also demonstrated to provide the teachers with a chance for observation and to obtain the feeling of the phenomenon. I found out that demonstration and discussion (at the same time) are useful strategies to bring teachers closer to the scientific point of view as it provided them with the chance to observe and reflect on the phenomenon Some of the alternative conceptions of sampled teachers were identified regarding potential energy, kinetic energy, mechanical energy, internal energy, and melting process as these conceptions were confused with each other. The problem areas of teachers' understanding as investigated, were about the phenomenon of dissipation and considering some' as all' as they responded shortly/incompletely. According to the tasks of the study, in different stages, I played different roles. For example, in the elicitation stage, I was a complete observer, interviewer and facilitator; in the intervention stage, I played the role of participant observer, demonstrator and facilitator; and in the evaluation stage. I was a facilitator and evaluator. Though there were logistical as well as procedural challenges faced during the study, the approaches used proved to be successful

The present paper is the study of the methodology which Shaykh Abu al-Ḥasan Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Hādī al-Sindī al-Kabīr (d.1139 AH) adopted in writing a concise commentary on most authentic book of Ḥadīth, Saḥīḥ al-Bukharī. His life and works have been studied and analyzed elsewhere. (See. Al-Azwa, Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, University of Punjab, June, 2012, pp. 327-44). This study delving in his Commentary brings to the fore the depth and breadth of his scholarship in various branches of Islamic sciences including usūl, fiqh and Arabic eloquence. It further shows how skillfully he applied his knowledge of these sciences in elaboration of the most authentic Ḥadīth work meticulously compiled by Muḥammad b. Ismaʿīl al-Bukharī (194-265 AH). The study concludes that his methodology in elaborating terminology of usūl, fiqh and Arabic eloquence is one of the best works of its kind. Hence, commentary may well be considered as one of the significant sources for the study of Saḥīḥ al-Bukharī.

Study of Physical Characteristics of Stellar Configurations

The aim of this thesis is to study some astrophysical problems in the context of general relativity. Firstly, we investigate the stability of charged anisotropic spheri- cal as well as cylindrical °uid con¯gurations by observing the appearance of crack- ing/overturning within the matter distribution. In case of spherical system, two cases of polytropic relation between density and pressure are taken into account. We employ the perturbations on material variables via polytropic constant as well as polytropic index and construct the corresponding perturbed form of the force distribution func- tion. It is found that the compact object is stable for feasible choice of perturbed polytropic index in the presence of charge. For cylindrically symmetric object, the cracking is explored by applying density perturbations for two models satisfying spe- ci¯c form of Chaplygin equation of state. We conclude that these models experience cracking for larger values of charge. Secondly, we explore exact anisotropic solutions for charged spherical as well as uncharged cylindrical matter distribution through gravitational decoupling approach. In order to ¯nd the solutions, we consider known solution for isotropic °uid and extend it to two types of anisotropic solutions by imposing density as well as pressure constraints. The behavior of physical parameters, energy conditions and stability of the resulting models is also investigated. It is found that only ¯rst solution is physically acceptable as it meets all the energy bounds as well as stability criterion. Finally, we analyze the anisotropic spherical and cylindrical polytropic solutions. For comoving cylindrical system, we formulate the ¯eld equations for three particular forms of gravitational potential and explore exact solutions for di®erent values of the polytropic index. The values of arbitrary constants are determined by taking mass and radius of a well-known compact star (Her X-1). We ¯nd that two of the models are physically reasonable. The spherically symmetric models are constructed for an xii xiii observer moving relative to matter content using two cases of polytropic equation of state under conformally °at condition which aids to ¯nd a speci¯c form of anisotropy parameter. We obtain models numerically and ¯nd that only ¯rst model satis¯es all the energy conditions as well as stability criterion.
