Exponential growth in information and communication technology (ICT) has put the school leaders in a situation where they are expected to use ICT for teaching and learning process. They are also expected to prepare the teaching staff, so that students would be prepared for the future. Literature suggests that school headteachers have a potential role to play in promoting the use of ICT in schools. It also suggests that for the promotion of ICT among teachers, a headteacher can play a role in developing teachers professionally. Moreover, s/he can develop a collaborative culture among the teachers so that they could learn from each other. However, the first condition for the promotion of ICT is the availability of ICT resources. Therefore, the headteachers are in a challenging situation to first acquire the resources and then manage them in such a way that their potential benefits could be achieved. Since ICT is a recent phenomenon in most of the schools, especially in Pakistan, it is difficult to work with all the stakeholders simultaneously. Also, due to the huge student population in most of the schools, a gap between users and the resources, which hampers the promotion of ICT use. Therefore, it is imperative to work with a group of teachers who are more inclined towards ICT or have leadership positions at the first stage, so that they could be prepared and who can help others learn to use ICT. For this purpose, the study explores the role of headteacher in promoting the use of ICT among learning area coordinators (LACs) who are subject teachers and lead small groups of subject teachers at the New Vision Secondary School (NVSS) in Karachi, Pakistan. The school was selected, because it belongs to the school system that I work for, and the headteacher seemed keen to promote the use of ICT among the LACs in the school. The study was carried out in a qualitative research paradigm. Data were collected through interviews, observations, informal discussion and document analysis. The empirical evidence showed that the roles played by the headteacher in the NVSS were not different from what has been found in the literature. The headteacher played the role of resource manager and a leader. Similarly, she made the efforts to provide opportunities of learning to the LACs. She has attempted to develop a learning environment through her own examples. This learning culture has helped the LACs,

One of the most important and fundamental elements of a civilized society is the presence of peace. In the absence of peace nothing can prosper and advance. In this age of science and technology, terrorist activities can become a cause of isolation from the rest of the world. That is why, every country gives extra attention to its peace and security. Many countries allocate huge sums of budget for this purpose. However, it is not only the responsibility of a government to establish peace, but, also of other institutions, especially, the educational institutions to play their role in this regard. In this article, the role of educational institutions for the promotion of peace has been discussed. Every person of society spends some time in these institutions. These institutions can teach and train their students to develop a peaceful conduct and tolerate the different behaviors and views. But there are some problems and difficulties for educational institutions to play their required role for peace. In the perspective of our country, we can say that if we solve these problems, our country can become more peaceful, will make progress by leaps and bounds and can become one of advanced countries of the world.
In these days to enhance the performance of databases researchers propose compression as well as query optimization. Compression reduces volume of data and query optimization reduces execution time of query.
There are some issues while compressing database and performing query optimization the first one is the selection of suitable compression scheme. Second is how to reduce the query execution time. which algorithm we use.
How to overcome on the demerits of these two issues. We use dictionary-based approach for compression with many small dictionaries that quickly load in the memory on demand. One big diction requires more time for loading and scanning. We also perform query optimization on database without decompressing it by considering fewer execution plans instead of all.
The use of many small - dictionaries save space, load quickly. Due to compression, smaller size of intermediate results, less I/O operation required and less buffer misses occurs. While in query optimization selection of randomized algorithm with enhancement consider fewer execution plans instead of all plans. This reduce query execution time.
We conclude that the use of compression and query optimization improve the performance of database.
