In response to current trends to center educational reforms on teacher development, there has been a notable shift of focus to educational research that seeks to promote teacher education through critical reflections on teachers' experiences. The objective has been to inform teacher education practices from practical knowledge generated from the teachers' lived experiences and daily teaching than from knowledge based on established theories propounded by experts' from outside the classroom. Several teacher educators have expressed optimism in self-study research (SSR) as a teacher learning/inquiry strategy that could facilitate this process. This study aims to describe how SSR can be used as a teacher-learning strategy in different contexts of teacher education. It draws upon the perceptions and experiences of 35 M.Ed. course participants (CPs) who were engaged in SSR during the Teacher Learning module of the M.Ed. (Teacher Education) program, at the Aga Khan University-Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED). Creation of field texts involved analysis of 33 CPs' autobiographies and 35 drafts of their reflections-on-writing, research interviews, informal conversations, and reflective journal recording. My own autobiography was the focus of the study. However, to enrich my understanding of the study I burrowed into the lived experiences of three other participants selected on the basis of the analysis of the autobiographies and on contextual representation of the CPs' backgrounds. Creation of interim texts involved vertical and horizontal analysis of my autobiography and those of the three selected cases, to create Professional Biographical Profiles. These were enriched with data from interviews formal and informal and from reflective journal entries before they were eventually represented as research texts. Findings show that the professional insights the CPs got from the experiences of engaging in SSR at AKU-IED made them perceive SSR pedagogically valuable as a teacher learning strategy. Basing on the CPs' learning experiences and perceptions about the teacher-learning potential of SSR, the study suggests that SSR could be used as a reflective tool to support teacher learning at different stages of teacher development. However, the study reveals underlying ethical problems and limitations on teachers' capacity to engage in reflective practice. Pertinent implications for using the strategy in different contexts of teacher education are discussed and recommendations based on the implications are given. Finally, the focus for further research on the topic is identified.

Today in the world, the human beings are crunch in crimes in developed society or in undeveloped society. As a result the whole world has become insecure and unsafe. A society and nation can perish and drowned due to its cruelty and crimes. The Muslim society is also being victims of such crimes. According to the scholars the basic reason of this issue is illiteracy and get for away from Islamic teachings while fearless from God and from the Day of Judgment, social injustice, instability, destabilization, disunity and dis-integrity, away from knowledge, negative role of media and impatience tolerance are also considered as major factors. The scholars and reformers are suggested to control the crimes through laydown of justice or establishment of Courts and spread of knowledge, bring awareness among the peoples, establishment of educational institutes in a society. In this article it has been point out the major causes of social crimes and their potential remedy in the light of Qur’an and Sunnah.

Adaptive Estimation Using State-Space Methods

This thesis focuses on the development of new variants of adaptive filters. Built around state-space framework, the proposed filters are especially suitable for applications like tracking, output feedback control and recursive spectrum estimation. They operate without prior knowledge of process and observation noise statistics and exhibit good stability properties. The development in this thesis can broadly be classified into state- space least mean square (SSLMS) and finite memory least-squares filters. SSLMS is a generalization of the well-known least mean square (LMS) filter. Incorporating linear time-varying state-space model of the underlying environment, SSLMS exhibits marked improvement in its tracking performance over the standard LMS. An extension of SSLMS is SSLMS with adaptive memory (SSLMSWAM). SSLMSWAM iteratively tunes the step-size parameter by stochastic gradient method in an attempt to yield its most appropriate value. This filter is useful for situations where a suitable value of step-size parameter is difficult to obtain beforehand. Recursive nature of an adaptive filter brings with it stability issues. The concept of finite memory (or receding horizon) for an adaptive filter is appealing because it ensures stability. This motivates the development of finite memory filters, both for iiiunforced and forced systems. Finite impulse response (FIR) adaptive filter, built around structure of an unforced system, uses weighted observations on a finite interval. Uniform weighting of the observations results in rectangular RLS (RRLS). Additional flexibility is achieved by developing an adaptive memory variant of FIR adaptive filter. Similar to SSLMSWAM, the data window size is iteratively tuned so as to minimize the prediction error. For the forced system case, a useful solution in the form of receding horizon state observer is obtained. It finds utility in output feedback control of linear time-varying systems. An insight into convergence properties of finite memory based filters is provided by the convergence analyses. Spectrum update with the arrival of new data is a desirable feature in real-time spectrum estimation applications. The mathematical equivalence of RRLS resonator bank and recursive discrete Fourier transform (DFT) gives the rationale for using the newly developed filters for recursive spectrum estimation. A symmetric windowed variant of RRLS called ‘truncated exponential RLS (TERLS)’ is useful for reducing spectral leakage. Same is true for an SSLMS resonator, which has an attractive feature that spectral side levels and main lobe width may be reduced simultaneously by reducing the step-size parameter. The higher order resonator (HOR), constructed from several SSLMS resonators, exhibits close resemblance to an ideal (rectangular) frequency bin, thus minimizing spectral leakage and increasing resolution.
