The professional development teachers (PDTs) were expected by their school management and the Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development, to work with their headteachers and their colleagues in schools and initiate changes for school improvement. In the Pakistani context the role of headteachers as instructional leader is still not recognized. They are playing their roles as administrators. This is the reason that professional development teachers faced challenges and did not get support and encouragement from the headteachers, in the process of change for school improvement. The study was conducted in two government schools in order to understand the head teacher's perceptions about the role of professional development teachers (PDTs) in school improvement. A case study method was used to gather relevant information within a qualitative paradigm. This method helped to understand the perceptions about the role of the PDTs. A variety of data collection tools were used to triangulate information for reliability and validity purposes. The study findings suggest that in the beginning the PDTs seemed to be ambitious in bringing about change. Therefore, sometimes they did not consult their heads. At the same time, the headteachers were un-clear about the role of PDTs so they resisted the change, and dealt with the PDTs as ordinary teachers. The headteachers did not encourage PDTs to work with the teachers in order to develop their skills. The PDTs were asked to teach the students and prepare them to achieve good results in the examination. But gradually, PDTs learned that without the cooperation of headteachers, they would not be able to initiate change. The study also suggests that there appeared a mismatch between the perceptions of PDTs and of headteachers about school improvement. PDTs saw their role in the professional development of teachers as improving students learning, whereas, the headteachers thought the PDTs should help them in maintaining school discipline. As time passed, the headteachers started appreciating the PDTs role as change agents and facilitators in the teachers' professional development. However, the PDTs' role has not yet been officially recognized by the senior officers in the education department The study proposes some recommendations, which include: (a) recognition of PDTs' role at the government level; (b) school-based professional development programs; (c) strategic school development plan; and (d) professional development of headteachers and supervisory personnel. These recommendations may help headteachers and others to understand the PDTs' role in school improvement.

The Scope of the Death Penalty under the Sharia Law

The death penalty is one of the core issues which have been widely discussed around the world. As capital punishment has been the part of the Islamic legal system, the Quran and hadith explicitly established the penalties in various serious crimes. A majority of the world‟s nations has abolished the death penalties from their constitutions, but most of the Islamic countries firmly believe in this system. One root cause of it is that the Holy Quran and hadith provide the justification for capital punishment. Further, several Islamic countries where Islam has the status of the state religion, allow the application of the death penalty. This work has prompted us to expose that the Islamic penal code is well-established in the legal and political systems of Islamic countries and the impact of religious traditions have an indirect impact on the implication of the death sentence. Since the death penalty is even now broadly established in Muslim countries, there is also increasing support in several of these states to abolish of the death penalty. Some secular activists have distorted the Quranic verses dealing with the death penalty to support their instance. For different reasons, they claim that political governments may use the death penalty as cover to suppress their political rivals. Our findings reveal that secular propaganda against the Islamic penal system is based on wrong assumptions and a result of Islamophobia. This research article can provide a logical discussion on the issue of capital punishment, rooted in the true spirit of the Islamic punishment system.

Adapting Usability Heuristics for Evaluating Multitouch Gesture Interaction

This is the era, where an ordinary person can approach to smart phone arcade and purchase inexpensive and reasonable device. User?s concern has now grown up that mobile device usage should be fair enough, easy to use and avoid negative user experience. Multi-touch gesture interaction is one of the main characteristics associated with this mobile paradigm that segregate from desktop-computing age. With this characteristic, the behavior of mobile device should be different to get good user experience. Heuristic method identifies usability related flaws with the help of experts. But, still lacking to identify comprehensively the usability issues related with multitouch gesture interaction in current mobile applications mainly due to its characteristics. Industry needs guidelines that help designers to develop usable interfaces. Assessing usability issues allows improving these aspects. In this research, we will propose an adapted heuristic method for identifying comprehensively the usability issues related with multi touch gesture interaction. For validation, we will compare the findings in terms of number of flaws and their respective severity level with SMASH and JOYCE Methods. We assume that our proposed set of heuristics will identify more issues along with related severity ratings compared with SMASH and JOYCE results. Our proposed set of heuristics will be beneficial for researchers as well evaluators to find out the usability issues related with multi-touch gestures interaction of current mobile applications more effectively and efficiently.
