School leadership is the most important factor in the improvement of schools. Now it is widely accepted that headteachers need both pedagogical and managerial skills to lead a school. This can be achieved through leadership training programs. In many countries including Pakistan, teachers are mostly promoted to headship positions without their having management and leadership skills in schools. Therefore, the training becomes important for those headteachers who have been promoted to headship positions on the basis of their seniority or teaching experience. The School Leadership Training Program (SLTP) was an in-house training program, which was carried out for the headteachers of AKES, P schools in the Northern Areas. This study is about the impact of SLTP on the knowledge and practices of the Headteachers (HTs) who attended the training program. This inquiry presents the impact of the training program in terms of the sense of self-efficacy, knowledge acquisition, practices and performance of the HTs. The study was carried out in January- February 2004 in four schools of the Aga Khan Education Services, Pakistan, two Field Education Offices, and the Training Program Office of the AKES,P Northern Areas, Gilgit. Qualitative and quantitative research methods were used. Data was collected through interviews of the HTs, teachers, and education officers and a program coordinator, and through document study of schools, FEOs and SLTP related to the practices of HTs, and their staffs. For data analysis the grounded theory of data analysis was used. This study reveals that SLTP had made an impact on the perception, knowledge, practices and performance of the headteachers. The impact of the training program was ascertained on the beliefs, attitudes, and practices of the HTs as well. The research also exposed factors that facilitated or hindered the implementation of the knowledge and skills learnt by the HTs during the training. The major facilitating and hindering factors remained the innate qualities of individuals, system support, suitable working conditions, academic knowledge, and needs based training.

افسوس ہے کہ اس مہینہ شیخ عبدالعزیز شادیش نے مصر میں وفات پائی، یہ مفتی محمد عبدہ کے شاگردوں میں تھے اور طبعاً نہایت پرجوش تھے، نوجوان ترکوں کی انجمن اتحاد و ترقی کے زمانہ میں یہ اس کے سرگرم حامی تھے، بلکہ یہ کہنا چاہئے کہ یہ اس کی مذہبی روح تھے، انور پاشا مرحوم کے دست و بازو تھے، بلقان کے بعد انہوں نے قسطنطنیہ سے ’’الہدایہ‘‘ نام کا ایک علمی، مذہبی، اصلاحی رسالہ عربی میں نکالا تھا، جنگ عظیم میں یہ اتحادیوں کے خلاف عرب میں جہاد کے واعظ اور مبلغ تھے، ترکی کے موجودہ انقلاب میں بھی شریک ہوئے اور چاہتے تھے کہ اس انقلاب کے ہاتھ سے معتدل مذہبی اصلاحات اور اتحاد اسلامی کا سررشتہ نہ چھوٹے، اس لئے انگورہ میں دنیائے اسلام کی ایک علمی و ادبی انجمن بنائی، جس کے کتب خانہ میں تمام اسلامی زبانوں کی کتابیں جمع کی جائیں تاکہ ایک نظر میں تمام اسلامی دنیا کی مختلف دماغی سطح معلوم ہوجائے اور اتحاد اسلامی کی مجسم شکل سامنے آجائے، مگر مصطفی کمال پاشا کی سرعت رفتار کا وہ ساتھ نہ دے سکے، ناچار مصطفی کمال نے جب خلافت کی قبا اتار پھینکی اور اپنے کو جیسے وہ تھے سب کے سامنے ظاہر کردیا، تو شیخ نے انگورہ چھوڑ کر مصر میں قدم رکھا اور سیاسیات سے یکسر تائب ہوکر اپنے استاد کے نقشِ قدم پر چلے، یعنی مصر کے تعلیمی محکمہ میں وہ ابتدائی تعلیم کے انسپکٹر مقرر ہوگئے۔

Sulayman Bin Musa Al-Kala As Sirah Writer an Introduction and Research Analysis

Abu Al-Rab฀ ‘ Sulaym฀n Bin M฀sá Al-Kal฀‘฀ (565 A. H -- 634 A. H) is a great S฀rah writer. In this article, his scholarly and personal characteristics, the list of his works, tributes from scholars to his services and scholarly rank of Al-Kal฀‘฀ are presented. After presenting his personal features, an introduction and research analysis of his book “AlIktif฀’ fi Magh฀z฀ Al-Mu฀tafá wa Al-thal฀thah Al-Khulaf฀ ’ ” is given. Al-Kal฀‘฀ was a great scholar and authentic S฀rah writer. He got knowledge of Had฀th from Abul ‘At฀’. He attended the lectures of various scholars of Had฀th such as Abul Q฀sim bin Al-Jaysh, Abu Bakr bin Jadd, Abu Abdull฀h bin Zark฀n, Abdull฀h bin Fakhkh฀r, Abu Muhammad bin Jamh฀r, Najbah bin Yahy฀. Many great scholars of Had฀th such as Q฀฀฀ T฀nas were his pupils and brought his knowledge to far off countries. Al-Kal฀‘฀ wrote many books on Had฀th and S฀rah. Ibn Farh฀n, Abul Abb฀s and many other scholars have praised and paid tribute to Al-Kal฀‘฀ in their works. Main objective of the book under discussion, Al-Iktif฀’, is to disseminate knowledge of S฀rah and Had฀th prolifically. Al-Kal฀‘฀ has kept in mind the caution and the principles of S฀rah writing derived from the Holy Qur’฀n. Sulaym฀n Bin M฀sá has a great quality of writing S฀rah books. He can be called a born scholar and a writer. His quest for knowledge took him in different cities and he gained the best of knowledge and intellect that can be seen in all of his writings. He can be called a preserver and a protector of S฀rah literature. He is considered the most honored and dignified person among the scientific and cultural tradition of Andalusiyah. This article proves his abilities, qualities and excellence of work.

Socio Eoconomic Determinants of Happiness: A Panel Study

In this study we explore the determinants of happiness as well as analyze its relationship with economics, social matters and family factors with respect to policies. The gist of happiness can be assessed with stages of income levels of the nations and also with reference to different types of other variables that determine the behaviours of individuals directly or indirectly. We construct indices for Happiness, Economic, Social, Demographic, Environmental and Governance indicators through Principal Component Analysis (PCA). We compare the level of happiness among countries in different income categories that is, low income, low middle income, high middle income, and high income categories according to World Bank classification. The empirical investigation uses panel data of 56 countries for three waves of WVS for the years 1994, 1999 and 2004. The PCA is used to construct indices. For empirical investigation we used OLS, Pooled Regression model with common and Fixed Effect model and then GMM. We explored different level of happiness for all income categories. We have found that the correlates of happiness for different categories of income affect differently.
