The purpose of the study was to try to understand how concrete materials can help to develop primary school children's understanding of quadrilaterals. Concrete materials for the purpose of the study refers to all materials and physical objects that can be seen, touched, felt and manipulated for mathematical learning. I worked with four boys (ages 9-11) of mixed ability from a private school that works in close collaboration with IED. I tutored them for one hour outside of their classroom situation. This teaching was done four times a week for seven weeks using at least nine different kinds of concrete material to teach about the sides, angles and diagonals of the parallelogram family of quadrilaterals (square, rhombus, rectangle and parallelogram). My role was dual in nature, that of a researcher as well as a teacher. After determining the needs of the students by an initial activity I designed materials to suit the learning needs of the children. Data was collected with methods suited to the qualitative paradigm of research, i.e., by field notes, audio taping the teaching/learning sessions and collection of samples of students' work and reflections. My own reflections guided the evolution of the research process. My biggest learning was that the role of the teacher is the key factor for effective teaching with concrete materials. The best of materials will not work unless the teacher takes the role of a facilitator, an assessor, a decision maker and a tailor. Concrete materials sometimes succeeded and sometimes did not succeed in developing an understanding of the concept in the children's minds, but in both cases played a key role in students' learning. The materials helped to develop students' mathematical language, encouraged discussion (both teacher-student and student-student), sharpened the ability of the students to question and probe their own and their peers understanding and also unveiled the alternate frameworks that the students harboured about the geometrical concepts under study. Important insights were gained into how children learn the different properties of the four quadrilaterals. For example, all students considered a rhombus to be a "tilted square”, the use of a flexiquad helped the students to learn to differentiate between the two. This study also discusses some of the possibilities and challenges of using concrete materials in the Math classroom and its implications for the teacher or a teacher educator.

Man is curious. Today he is stepping forward to explore the world and space, but still he is trying to know the answer to the question that how he was made? Qur’an the last holy book of Allah, which provides complete guidance in every walk of life, can give better answer to this question. Besides this many theories were presented by the scientists called evolution theories. One of these theories is “Theory of natural selection” presented by Charles Darwin in 1859 A.D. This theory got a lot of reputation. Qur’anic teachings say that the first human being Hazrat Adam (علیہ السلام) was created by Allah as a complete Man. But this theory states that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual's ability to compete, survive, and reproduce (means there was no Adam on earth as the Father of humanity, which is contrary to Islam). Darwin theory, a non-Islamic theory about the creation of humanity has a great impact over the various thinkers of subcontinent. This research article attempts to answer the questions that what are the Qur’anic teachings about the creation of humanity on earth? And what are the different evolution theories and their effects on the various thinkers of subcontinent?

India Pakistan Trade Relations: Challenges, Prospects And Policy Options

With the trade normalization process between India and Pakistan gathering momentum since November 2011, new vistas for enhancing bilateral trade have been opened between the two countries. This study has analyzed the trade potential between India and Pakistan, and examined how this prospective is disregarded owing to several socio- political reasons. The trade prospects between India and Pakistan is estimated to lie between US$10.9 billion and US$19.8 billion. The study has assessed the products which are of vital importance for a massive growth in trade but unfortunately these products or items fall in the negative or sensitive lists and non-tariff barriers. In the services sector, trade possibilities have been identified in Information Technology (IT), Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), health and entertainment services. This trade potential remains unrealized largely due to impediment in transport and transit facilities, restrictive visa regime, continuation of large informal trade flows, and presence of non-tariff barriers to trade between India and Pakistan. Since the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regime between the two countries is liberalized, the study has identified sectors which hold potential for investments, and are likely to deepen the trade linkages between India and Pakistan. Moreover, the research also highlighted traders' motivation for doing business in both markets as well as challenges and obstacles in expanding bilateral trade. Findings of the current study reveal very crucial aspects of the bilateral trade between Pakistan and India. The first and foremost is the significance of the trade relations within the region than expanding relations with the remote partners. Interest of both the countries in expansion strategy of services sectors and the existence of favourable demand to enhance bilateral trade may create huge potential for expansion of trade relations. The study also reveals that political disputes and the non-tariff barriers have been the major problems for businessmen of both countries in doing business in each other's countries. Analyzing the geo-economic conditions of both the countries, the study urged for a strong trade relation between Pakistan and India.
