Formative assessment is an ongoing assessment process, and feedback is an integral part of formative assessment. It is an effective tool, used to enhance students’ learning in a classroom context. Teachers have the leading role in the whole process. The focus of this study was to explore teachers’ perceptions, understanding, and practices of formative assessment and the role of feedback practice in enhancing student’s learning. This study was conducted in two public schools of district Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The design of the study employed was case-study under the qualitative research approach. Two social study teachers of Grade 5 participated in the study.The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, document analysis, and focus group discussions of students. The overall findings of my study indicate that the teachers were aware of some theoretical assumptions about the feedback with regards to its importance in supporting their students’ learning. However, the feedback practices were more mechanical rather than reflective. The findings indicate that teachers’ understanding and practices about feedback remained very theoretical and mechanicals. It was not evident if the feedback support learning in the broader term as discussed in the literature. The main aim of the formative assessment was to check the students’ work and identify correct or incorrect text/work. Even mistakes were seen in terms of spellings and factual knowledge since the tasks were limited in nature. Thus, the study suggests that teachers should equip themselves with the content and pedagogical knowledge of formative assessment and feedback practice in a classroom context. For this purpose, special continuous professional development courses could be arranged for teachers, through education department from national, provincials, districts and local levels, in order to make the formative assessment and feedback process effective and meaningful both for teachers and students.

علمی اور تعلیمی حلقوں میں جناب ریاض احمد صاحب کی وفات سے جو خلا ہوا ہے اس قحط الرجاں میں اس کا پرُ ہونا مشکل ہے۔ ان کا اصل وطن غازی پور تھا۔ لیکن وہ الٰہ آباد میں متوطن ہوگئے تھے۔ انہوں نے مجیدیہ اسلامیہ انٹر کالج کے نیک نام اور کامیاب پرنسپل کی حیثیت سے بڑی شہرت و عزت حاصل کی وہ طلبہ کی ذہنی و دماغی اور علمی تربیت بڑی دلسوزی سے کرتے تھے، ان کے زمانے میں کالج کا معیار تعلیم بہت بلند تھا، ان سے فیض حاصل کرنے والے طلبہ کی تعداد بے شمار ہے۔
ریاض الدین احمد صاحب کا خاص مشغلہ درس و تدریس تھا لیکن انہیں علم سے شغف اور تحریر و تصنیف کا اچھا ذوق تھا، طلبہ کی درسیات کے لیے متعدد کتابیں لکھیں جو مقبول ہوئیں، سائنس ان کا خاص موضوع تھا، اس پر جو کتابیں لکھیں وہ مدارس کے طلبہ کے لئے خاص طور پر مفید ہیں، قرآن مجید کے درس و تعلیم کا اچھا منصوبہ بنایا تھا۔ ان میں بڑی دینی و ملی غیرت تھی، مسلمان بچوں کو اپنے عقیدہ و مذہب پر استوار اور ملی شناخت باقی رکھنے کے لیے انہوں نے ایمانی پرائمر وغیرہ کے نام سے کئی مفید کتابیں لکھیں۔

There is no doubt that the personality of messenger of Allah peace be upon him is irreproachable from all kind of diminutions and barrier of salient bigness and glory. Not only historically biographers have written about the  greatness of Prophet peace be upon him, But the Muhadithin have collected  a large part of the collection of Hadiths on  prophet peace be upon him greatness and  honour. Urdu commentators are not far behind in this field. We have come to the conclusion after observing that while interpreting the Qur'anic verses relating to the greatness and character of the Prophet (peace be upon him) The commentators were very eloquent and described the characteristics of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in a very eloquent and loving manner. In this article, the detailed material written by the commentators on the characteristics of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in Urdu commentary literature will be presented.

Independent and Associative Functions of Ikks and C-Myc in Cancer

Cancer related mortality rate is exceptionally high in developing countries including Pakistan. Lack of awareness regarding early warning signs and potential risk factors often contributes to high mortality rate. Complex molecular mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of various malignancies. Nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) is one of the key pathways involved in cancer progression by cellular and immune regulation. This pathway is usually kept inactive in cytoplasm of normal cells by another group of proteins known as inhibitor of NF-κB (IκB). Degradation of IκB is regulated by a set of proteins called IκB kinases (IKKs) resulting in deregulated activation of NF-κB pathway in malignant cells. IKKs have been reported to interact with cellular Myelocytomatosis (c-Myc), thereby suggesting NF-κB-independent roles of IKKs in tumors. Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) microscopy was employed to analyze the association of IKKs and c-Myc in human embryonic kidney (HEK 293) cell line. The current study revealed for the first time that the helix loop helix (HLH) and leucine zipper (LZ) domains of IKKα play an indispensable role in the interaction of IKKα with c-Myc. Further the effect of the IKKs and c-Myc interaction was tested at transcriptional and translational levels. IKKs were not found to affect the c-Myc expression at transcriptional and translational level, but IKKs were found to reduce transcriptional activity of c- Myc, thereby suggesting a possible regulatory role of IKKs on c-Myc and cancer. The interaction of IKKα with c-Myc was found to be comparatively stronger as compared to IKKβ. Therefore, in order to explore the independent role of IKKα in Breast cancer, the paraffin embedded tissue sections were immunohistochemically stained with IKKα. The immunohistochemical analysis of IKKα protein showed its decreased expression in Progesterone receptor (PR) positive BC biopsies suggesting an inverse correlation between the two proteins. An association between IKKα expression with tumor grade was observed but was found to be statistically insignificant. Abstract xxii Proto-oncogenes such as c-Myc are often found to be up-regulated in most of the human neoplasmas often in association with genetic changes including single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs). Therefore, the effect of 27 non synonymous SNPs (nsSNPs) on the structure and function of c-Myc protein was found through an in silico analysis. Among the various nsSNPs studied; rs114570780 (Tyr47His), rs150308400 (Cys148Tyr), rs137906262 (Leu159Ile) and rs200431478 (Ser362Phe) were found to have noteworthy biological worth and may be considered while developing personalized therapeutic approaches. Taken together, these findings have potential implications in the development of diagnostics and therapeutic approaches against malignancies.
