Grape (Vitis Vinifera L.) belongs to family Vitaceae and is one of the top ranked fruit of world. It has a rich amount of genetic diversity. According to an estimate there are more than 10,000 cultivars of grapes that exist in nature. It is a highly nutritious fruit and has countless health benefits. However, in our country it is grown as a minor fruit and its production is too low to meet the demand for people.High quality grapes production is achieved in the world through morphological, biochemical and genetic characterization but little effort has been made in Pakistan to characterize grapes. Characterization of grapes is of great concern to estimate diversity and is a step forward toward effective and efficient use of germplasm. Potohar is one of the neglected areas which is rich in grapes diversity. The present study was planned to characterize local and exotic genotypes present in Potohar, Pakistan on the base of morphological, biochemical and genetic characteristics. In morphological qualitative characterization, 44 qualitative traits were selected from IPGRI descriptor. These morphological traits performed a significant role in analyzing grape diversity but the major traits that discriminate the genotypes included mature leaf variables (ML: DPHMV, ML: DPHMV, ML: DEHMV) and young leaf variables (YL: DPHBV, YL: DPHMV and YL: DEHMV). PCA grouped all genotypes on the base of their phenotypic relation and cluster analysis divided the genotypes in to three main classes. Genotypes in each class were similar on the basis of morphological characteristics. Regarding grape quantitative traits, great differences were observed in bunch and berry characteristics (length, width and weight). Local genotypes were more prominent in these characteristics while exotic genotypes Regenia, Perlet and Early White were evaluated as early mature genotypes to prevent berry rot at maturity due to monsoon rains in Potohar, Pakistan. Biochemical analysis indicated notable variations among the genotypes in all quantitative parameters of sugars (sucrose, glucose, fructose, mannose, ribose and xylose), enzymes (SOD, POD, CAT) and in phenolic components. In sugars, reducing sugars, xylose, total sugars and ribose played their contributory role in discriminating genotypes. SOD, POD and CAT had positive correlation in genotypes Gola, Gol, Chakwal Selection, Chesslas-B and White Seedless. Cluster analysis of biochemical attributes divided the genotypes in three main classes on the base of similarity. Variations observed within class was 49.96% while the variation observed between classes was 50.04%. In genetic characterization, 12 SSR primers produced distinguishing results and showed a highly polymorphic result with maximum PIC values 0.654, 0.662 and 0.565 in primers VMC4A1, VVMD32 and VrZAG62, respectively. One synonym case was also identified in the study. BRI-001 and Sundar Khani showed 95.83% similarity between them and from 24 alleles, 23 of them were similar. In PCA plot, genotypes Sundar Khani and BRI-001 were too close to each other and were merged into each other which showed that these two genotypes were very similar in genetic characteristics. Similarly, in cluster analysis, both genotypes Sundar Khani and BRI-001 were in same class and had the least distance between them which showed similarity in them. Besides these two genotypes all genotypes present in Potohar showed diversity on a molecular basis which concluded that grape genotypes present in Pakistan have huge diversity and can be successfully used to improve existing genotypes.

Exploring Individual and Social Factors that Influence Human Belief: An Analysis in the Light of Quran and Sunnah

استقصاء العوامل المؤثرة في الاعتقاد الإنساني من الناحية الفردية والاجتماعية: دراسة تحليلية في ضوء القرآن والسنة This research work was primarily designed to explore the factors that affect and change the human beliefs. The paper particularly addresses the issue from individual and social perspectives in relation to Holy Quran and authentic traditions of Holy Prophet PBUH. Qualitative research approach was employed for the collection and demonstration of data. The review of relevant literature concluded that there are many factors which seriously affected and changed the human beliefs. However, the most important and common factors are four: individual, social, religious, and economic. These factors play a significant role in changing Islamic beliefs of an individual. In this context, it was recommended that Islamic states in general, and Islamic scholars in particular should play their role to preserve Islamic beliefs in its original form. Furthermore, Muslim scholars should also design the strategy of purging beliefs from impurities and presenting them in systematic, logical and rational way along with their impact on the society

Stability Analysis of the Financial Systems of Pakistan and India

The objectives of this study are to assess the state of stability of the Banking systems of Pakistan and India and then to estimate how good, bad and worst economic conditions would in uence its state of stability. Our design of study is a mix of the techniques used by independent analysts andnancial system regulators. The model used in stress testing and scenario analysis are employed but in simpli ed form. Pakistan and India have not experiencednancial crisis due to some shock/contagion,therefore stress events and its impact on macroeconomic indicators are not included in the design. Determinants of asset quality of commercial banks are determined and its in uence on Nonperforming Loans (NPL) ratio explored empirically. A bank is termed unstable if its estimated Nonperforming Loans/advance ratio surpasses its equity/advance ratio during a year in a scenario. Scenarios of good, bad and worst economic conditions are developed for stress testing on the basis of extreme values of macroeconomic variables during sample period. Stability of whole banking system during a year in a scenario condition is evaluated on the basis of assets controlled by banks estimated unstable. First we take stock of banking system of Pakistan. During 1998-2001, in normal, bad and worst economic conditions, banks assessed signi cantly unstable are in control of maximum 35%, 50% and 62% assets respectively of the whole banking system. During 2002 and onward banks assessed signi cantly unstable are in control of maximum 6% assets of the whole banking system in normal, bad and even worst economic conditions. Thus it can be concluded that Pakistani banking system is stable since 2002 and can withstand bad and even worst economic conditions. As far as Indian banking system is concerned, Citibank (foreign bank) is the only bank appraised stable after 2006 and also adjudged able to withstand even the worst economic conditions. Almost all public sector banks reviewed are assessed unstable during 1999-2005. They exhibited signs of recovery during 2006- 2011 but adjudged markedly unstable during 2012-14. During 2014, twelve (out of total thirteen) public sector banks are evaluated signi cantly unstable in bad economic conditions. The three private sector banks i.e. Axis, HDFC and ICICI are evaluated to have performed satisfactorily specially during the last four yearsof the period under review. The instability of the Indian banking system in 2014 is more noteworthy when six banks possessing 30% assets of the banking system are appraised unstable by signi cant margin. The number of banks adjudged signi - cantly unstable is (maximum) two during 1999-2013 but abruptly increases to six in 2014. Results of the stress testing of the banking system of India under various scenarios denote that Indian banking system lacks the potential to withstand any macroeconomic shocks. In any signi cant adverse macroeconomic conditions, the system is expected to collapse.
