Intertextuality: (RE) Interpreting Dante's Inferno and the Postmodern World in Gaiman's Season of Mists The study is built upon the belief that an act of creation does not take place in isolation, especially for a writer, who is inevitably linked equally with the age and time to which he belongs, as well as to the past. Gaiman’s work is part of the postmodern scenario as the world he creates is a response to the postmodern norms and characteristics, which propagated the idea of meaning being unstable and multiple. The study is a comparative analysis, through the lens of intertextuality, of Dante’s The Inferno with the Graphic Novel series The Sandman Vol. 4 ‘Season of Mist’. The research questions that guide the analysis are to compare the selected works in terms of how the classic is transmuted into the current with the aim to highlight the prevalent themes of the postmodern era and the shape given to them in the selected work. The theoretical framework based on the hermeneutic circle and the theory of intertextuality has been utilized to explore what this still new and emerging form of the graphic novel contributes to narrative representation, and the understanding its readers can gain about the contemporary world from works that are both verbal and visual. It attempts to highlight how the social and the fantastic meet to create an intertextual referential framework that can help us in understanding the world within which we live. Riddled with references to other literary or popular texts, Gaiman’s works create meaning based on the knowledge he possesses as writer and creator, and in light of the age to which he belongs. The study attempts to frame within the present moment and the increasing accessibility of this new literary and popular genre, how the graphic novel has become part of an expanding literary field of contemporary fiction and its contribution to narrative representation by explaining the visual and the verbal modes.

Children's Literature” is defined as material written and produced for the information or entertainment of children and young adults. In simple terms, children’s literature comprises texts (novels, short stories, picture books, fairy tales, myths, poems) produced in various formats (print, digital, film, games) for children and young people. The first book for young people was printed in 1484 by William Cakistoon. Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi was one of the greatest writer and Islamic thinker in the second half of the twentieth century. He wrote many books in Arabic and Urdu, and wrote more than fifty books. He also wrote for children and young adults. Famous of them are: Qasas un Nabiyeen, Searat Khaatam un Nabiyeen, Al Qiraat ur Rashida, Qasas min Altarikh Al Islami and min Alnjoom ilal Arz.

Clinicoepidemiological Obervation and Therapeutic Targeting of Multidrug Staphylococcus Aureus and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in Burn Patients

The present study describes epidemiology of burns in patients attending tertiary care hospital (TCH) in Faisalabad, Pakistan and role of teicoplanin and meropenem in healing of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonsas aeruginosa infected burns in rabbits. Both retrospective and prospective 1-year data were collected from 939 patients admitted to a Burn Unit of TCH. The results showed that median age of burn patients was 12-year with highest occurrence noted in pre-school children (≤ 4 years old) and overall incidence of burns was higher in male patients. Scalding was a major cause of burns seen in 50% of children population involving lower body parts of the body. Second-degree burns were more common (>68%) as compare to 3rd degree burns and mostly involved extremities. Above seventy percent of burns patients had 15-30% of total burn surface area (TBSA). Absolute majority of burns was due to unintentional causes, however, intentional reasons (1.5%) were primarily noted in male patients. The fatality rate was 14.5%, which was higher in females as compared to males (12.3%). The incidence burns was highest in winter and lowest in summer and burns correlated to month, degree of burn, cause of burn, TBSA% and outcome. Bacterial isolation rate was 84% in burns with highest prevalence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa followed by Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli. Male patients were more positive for bacterial cultures than females and similarly rate of isolation was higher in 3rd degree burns. Minimum inhibitory concentration of TPN and MEM were lower for MRSA and P. aeruginosa and healing score of MRSA-infected-burn wounds (in rabbit model) was swift in teicoplanin treated group. In view of certain limitations like lack of record of first aid treatment, cause(s) of death, and failure to include the patients who could not seek medical care in this data, further studies are required to investigate the prognostic factors related to outcomes in burn patients.
