Present study was designed to explore the impact of management and instructional practices on university students’ satisfaction. Major objectives of the study were to check existing management and instructional practices in the context of private and public sectors universities, to weigh students’ satisfaction towards existing management and instructional practices, to measure the relationship between management and instructional practices, to measure the impact of teachers and managers’ demographic variations of age, discipline, gender, grade, experience, socioeconomic status and marital status in determining specific management and instructional practices and to propose a model of effective management and instructional practices for universities. In this study a stratified random sample of 800 respondents was collected from 3 distinct groups of population such as administrators, teachers and students from 16 leading private and public sector universities located at Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore and Mansehra. Finding revealed that most of the universities are trying to impart quality education up to the satisfaction level of their students but due to lack of resources they are unable to provide education of national standards (HEC, HEIs). When compared with the private sector students of public sector universities are more satisfied. Difference does exists between management and instructional practices because task of the management is to plan, organize, execute, lead and control the whole organizational processes whereas task of teachers is to plan, organize, execute their lectures. Management and faculty demographic variations affect their management and instructional practices whereas, students’ demographic variations also played important role in determining students’ satisfaction. Study proposed a model for the overall improvement of university physical and learning environment which will be helpful to promote students’ satisfaction. If the university management and faculty follow these practices which are proposed in this model then students’ satisfaction can be ensured and this may also lead universities to achieve higher ranking.

A Critical Analysis of Marxist Feminist Multi-Voiced Expressions in Pakistani Writings

Pakistani English literature is internationally recognized. It elaborates on Pakistani culture, societies, and individual and collective thought represented in its writings. Different writers have different perspectives to discuss, but Marxist Feminism is an important aspect about which very few writers focused, on the point of view of the property, dominance, wages, and shares in the economy. Men are not only denominated on women’s bodies but also their economy, which females deserve in the form of inheritance or wages. Karl Marx and Frederic Engels wrote a book: The Origin of Family, Private property, and the State (1884), and presented a theory on Marxist-feminist phenomena that men and women do the same job, but women receive the reward not equally men. This can be because of males’ dominant society or, in other words, females are not aware of their basic rights. This study is the subjective analysis of reading the two novels of the pre-modern time: Umrao Jaan Ada by Hadi Ruswa and the post-modern era fiction: The Holy Woman by Qaisra Shahraz to analyze the custom prevalent in the society of Pakistan regarding the Marxist-feminist approach. The hypothesis is also, whether the situation varies after a hundred years of awareness. However, the study has the conclusion of the same state.

Resilient Network Load Balancing for Datacenters

Datacenters (DCs) provide the backbone for online services such as web search and social networks. To deliver high bandwidth to such services, modern datacenters are often structured as multi-rooted tree topologies, resulting in multiple paths between every pair of servers. To optimally utilize the available bandwidth, an efficient network load balancing scheme is a critical component. Studies show that datacenters are prone to link failures and switch malfunctions, and this results in congestion asymmetry across network paths. ECMP is a widely deployed load balancing scheme in switches today, which hashes each flow onto one specific path. This leads to hash collisions for elephant flows. On the other side of the spectrum, some schemes spray packets across multiple paths, and while theirperformanceisnear-optimalundersymmetricconditions, theirperformancedegrades significantly under asymmetry, due to packet reordering. In this thesis, we explore how per-packet load balancing can be made efficient in the presence of asymmetry. Thekeycontributionofthisthesisisthedevelopmentofper-packet datacenternetwork load balancing schemes that perform well under asymmetry. Our work is based on the observation that if each flow is provided with a topology that exhibits symmetry in congestion across all its paths, then the flow is able to fully benefit from the bisection bandwidth without facing packet reordering. To this end, we propose SAPS, i.e., Symmetric and Adaptive Packet Spraying. SAPS leverages flow and group tables within OpenFlowenabled switches to create symmetric virtual topologies (SVTs), with each SVT consisting ofpathswithsimilarcapacity. SAPSmapseachflowtoaspecificSVT,withelephantflows mapped to larger bandwidth SVTs, and mice flows mapped probabilistically to any SVT. Experiments conducted involving large-scale packet-level simulations and real testbed settingsindicatethatSAPSimprovesupontheperformanceofseveralexistingloadbalancing schemessuchasECMPandweightedpacketspraying, undervariousfailurescenarios. Under certain scenarios, it also improves upon state-of-the-art schemes such as FlowBender and CONGA. OpenFlow-enabled switches provide the ability to rate limit groups of flows at the switch. By leveraging the rate limiting feature within OpenFlow-enabled switches, we canconstructanSVTbyextractingaspecificsymmetricchunk (orslice)ofresidualcapacity from various paths, rather than the all or nothing path inclusion mechanism in SAPS. 3 Whereas SAPS works well when asymmetry affects a few paths, its performance is adversely affected under higher levels of asymmetry. North-south traffic can lead to a greater number of paths being affected by asymmetry. Rate limiting enables the construction of a set of SVTs that contains the largest possible single SVT. We observe that under greater asymmetry, having an SVT set with the maximum possible SVT significantly enhances performance. This forms the basis of our proposed scheme, Slices, which outperforms other network load balancing schemes (including SAPS) when most paths face asymmetry. Both schemes (SAPS and Slices) are deployable on commonly available OpenFlowenabled switches
