Abstract
Probiotics are live non-pathogenic microscopic organisms i-e bacteria that aid to the health and play a role in balancing microflora of intestinal tract. The utilization of probiotics as a routine supplement has turned into common practice in the poultry industry. Yogurt, containing Lactobacilli is more commonly found probiotics. Prebiotics are carbohydrates that are not digestible and show specific effects on the bacteria of the intestine and chickens immunity. Garlic and onion are conventional sources of prebiotics. For this purpose, the chicken were divided into seven groups (A, B, C, D, E, F and G) with three replicates of each group. Group A was control group and served basal food. Group B (feed containing 0.5 g/kg of prebiotics); group C (prebiotics @ 1g/kg of the feed); group D (probiotics @ 0.5g/kg of the feed); group E (feed containing 1g/kg of the probiotics) group F (pre- + pro-biotics @ 0.5g/kg of the feed) group G (pre- + pro-biotics @ 1g/kg of the feed. The feed given to the birds from day 7 day of age. The feed was served to the chicks regularly with measured grading. Birds were th to 35 th raised for 35 days. The data on wt. gain per week and consumed feed was noted and FCR was also noted. Slaughtering was done at 35 day of age and blood samples were collected for hematology. Lung cells were collected for histopathological analysis. These birds were used to calculate the body weight, length of small and large intestine and giblet weight. This record was subjected to statistical analysis using general linear model procedure of SPSS (statistical product and service solution) which can be used for the manipulation of complex data. The results revealed significant effects of supplements on broiler growth and performance. Improvement in body weight was found highest in group supplemented synbiotics at 1g/kg. The weight gain was highly significant in synbiotics treated groups. The results regarding lungs, kidney and spleen weight showed non-significant effects of the treatment. They did not show any significant effects on their weight. Large and small intestine lengths were also not affected by the treatment significantly.
