Abstract
The study focuses on finding socio-cultural factors which pose to be a serious threat to female education at higher level. It tries to identify those factors which marginalize them in education. The descriptive- natured work raises research questions related to various factors i.e. scope of female higher education, security concern about female higher education, cultural and religious constraints and financial constraints towards female education at tertiary level. Government secondary school teachers (male and female) from 3 tehsils of district Mianwali: Tehsil Mianwali, Esakhel and Piplan constituted the population. The convenient random sampling technique is used to select the sample of 300 teachers. A questionnaire was developed to evaluate the teachers'' perceptions about the four research variables on female? tertiary level education. The data was collected from male and female teachers of secondary schools of Tehsil Mianwali only. The descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentage, mean score and standard deviation are used to analyze and summarize the data. The questionnaire comprised of demographic details which included name and gender. Responses of both the genders were collected and research variables i.e., scope of female tertiary level education, security concerns about female education, socio-cultural and religious restrictions, financial constraints and factors in the way of higher education among female were investigated. The researcher passed it through proper validation and similarity for its reliability, Cronbach alpha was also calculated. The major findings of the study are that majority both male and female favoured the importance of higher education for female students and the religiously rigid parents are against the tertiary level education of female. Financial problem becomes hurdle on the way of female education. The parents are worried about the security of their daughters, similarly social and cultural constraints keep them compelled to avoid girls? higher education.
