Abstract
This thesis report deals with the research on redefining homeless shelters, for destitute women and their children. The main aim is to understand how these individuals of the society can be transformed into active members that positively contribute to the society. The idea is to give a new definition to homeless shelters, in the light of healing architecture and through the integration of a system of programs that not only heals these women psychologically, but also provides a way to empower them financially. The research explores how these helpless women can be healed from their trauma, through design, and the integration of natural elements of biophilia i.e. sunlight and vegetation, into the structure’s architectural design. This is done through a collaboration of a homeless shelter and a vocational training center, keeping in view the social context of Peshawar.
