This research endeavor is aimed at identifying the conflict management style? preference of Pakistanis and Chinese managers working together in hydropower projects, which are being executed in Azad Kashmir. This study also explores the role of national culture dimensions in the choice of conflict management style of its followers. It seeks to answer the question, whether the dimensions of a certain national culture, plays vital role in the choice of conflict management style of its followers, especially when they are working in multicultural work environment? The constructs in the research model were operationalized with the help of two measures; Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory (ROCI) and Cultural Values Scale (CVSCALE). The former is used to identify the preferred conflict management styles of Pakistani and Chinese managers and the later assesses Hofstede?s cultural dimensions at individual level. A sample of 201 Pakistanis and Chinese was drawn by means of a convenient sampling technique. Respondents were surveyed via close ended questionnaire through emails and in person. Descriptive statistics, correlation, t-test and linear regression were applied to tests the hypothetical relationship by using SPSS. The study results reveal that Chinese and Pakistanis managers prefer to use avoiding and compromising style, respectively. Managers from both nationalities are higher power distant, collectivist and masculine; however, Chinese managers fall on higher side of the continuum of these three dimensions, against their Pakistani counterparts. The findings further depicts that Pakistanis managers are risk averse and Chinese managers are risk taker. The strong and significant regression results bolstered our research argument that national culture dimensions (power distance, individualism vs collectivism, masculinity vs femininity, and uncertainty avoidance) are the major determinants of the choice of conflict management style of managers. Finding of the research output augment our understanding of Pakistani and Chinese culture and how these cultures shape the conflict management strategy of their followers. This enhanced understanding is instrumental in embracing diversity at work place and managing its negative effects.Further, it mitigates the adverse effects of the destructive conflicts at culturally diverse workplace, which is curial to success and failure of these organization /projects. This research adds values to existing literature on conflict management styles in Pakistan as no effort has been made earlier, which jointly explores the conflict handling style of Pakistani and Chinese managers, along with, investigating the role of Hofstede? national culture dimensions in choice of management styles, especially when Chinese and Pakistani are working together in a home- foreign land setting.

The aim of this research is to thoroughly analyze the part multilingual dailies play in covering women issues in Pakistan. It is rooted from national newspapers, the Daily ‘Dawn’, the Daily ‘Jang’ and the Daily ‘Kawish’ in the year of 2011. The study explores to what extent of the violence against women and education issue of women is dealt by the sampled dailies. The study employed content analysis a quantitative research methodology during 1st January 2011 to 31st December 2011. The contents of the newspaper were measured in column per centimeter of the space of one year. For this research work three major dailies of three different languages, the Daily Dawn, the Daily Jang and the Daily Kawish were selected. In sum up, an elite class newspaper the Daily Dawn has published 562 very little issues of women and used 0.6 percent of the total capacity which is of 4353024 co./cm in the year of 2011. However, the Sindhi language newspaper, the Daily Kawish has used 2430 a little more issue of women and covered 2.3 percent of total capacity of 1678976 col./cm of this daily in 2011. To some extent, the Urdu language newspaper the Daily Jang has reported 1297 more number of women issues and used 1 percent of total capacity of 2423616 col./cm in one year. The Effectiveness of Training Nurses in Breast Cancer Awareness at a Tertiary Hospital: An Experimental Study

Background:Breast cancer is characterized by late presentation and significant morbidity and mortality in developing countries.Breast screening aids in early detection of breast cancer. The nursing health worker is uniquely placed to provide advocacy and screening in a resource limited environment. Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of an abbreviated training program in breast cancer awareness on nurses at a tertiary hospital, the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi. Methods: Using a statistical tool, the Solomon Model, 79 nurses were identified and divided into experimental and control groups. An abbreviated training intervention in breast cancer awareness was administered to the experimental group. Pre and post test questionnaires and objective structured clinical examinations were used to determine nurses’ knowledge and practice skills before and after the abbreviated training intervention. Results: Initial scores of knowledge and practice skills related to clinical breast examination were low: Mean knowledge scores of 18 out of 25(72%) and mean practice scores of 12.5 out of 30(41.6%). Significant improvement was observed following the abbreviated training intervention in both knowledge and practice skills. Knowledge scores of 22 out of 25( 88%, p = < 0.001) and practice scores of 26 out of 30(86.6%, p=0.003). Trained nurses were able to improve their knowledge of breast cancer from fair to good knowledge. Conclusion: There is need to increase breast awareness, both in terms of knowledge and practice skills, innursing health care workers as a means of improving awareness among the general population andearly detection of breast cancer. An abbreviated training in breast cancer awareness can improve these skills in nurses.
