The purpose of this study was to improve the job performance of teachers by measuring the factors affecting the performance of teachers at higher secondary level. Main objectives of the study were to measure and summarize the perceptions of principals, teachers themselves and students about the factors that influence teachers’ performance, to compare teachers’ performance on each factor in the light of perceptions of principals, teachers themselves and students, to determine the rating of principals, teachers themselves and their students on each factor, to discover the level of presence of each factor on teachers’ job performance in the light of perceptions of principals, teachers themselves and students and to recommend improvement of the existing situation. The study was descriptive in nature. All the principals, teachers and students at higher secondary level in Punjab constituted the population of the study. The principal, five teachers and ten students were included in the sample from each institution, thus the sample consisted of 1920 individuals i.e. 120 principals, 600 teachers and 1200 students. Three types of closed ended questionnaires on five point rating scale were prepared separately for principals, teachers and students. The data obtained were tabulated, analyzed and interpreted by using statistical techniques as, mean, standard deviation, average rating and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The main conclusions of the study were that the factor of subject mastery was perceived by the principals, teachers themselves and students to be at the highest level among the four factors of teachers’ job performance. The factor of attitude toward students was viewed to be at the lowest level among the four factors of teachers’ job performance. Teaching methodology and teachers’ personal characteristics were factors considered to be present in teachers’ performance at intermediary level. xiiiThe average rating of teachers was the highest whereas that of students was the lowest on all the four factors, namely the attitude toward students, subject mastery, teaching methodology and personal characteristics of teachers’ job performance. The rating of the principals was at intermediary level. There was no real difference among the views of principals, teachers themselves and students about teachers’ performance on the factors of attitude toward students, subject mastery and teaching methodology. However, the views of principals, teachers themselves and students were found different on the factor of teachers’ personal characteristics. On the basis of analysis of the study, it was recommended that though the factor of teachers’ job performance was found on the highest level in the present study, yet teachers should continue their attention and improve their command on the content through self study and by attending in service refresher courses. The attitude toward students, as a factor of teachers’ job performance as analyzed was perceived at the lowest. So teachers need to improve their approach toward the students in order to improve their performance. Teachers are required to continually improve their teaching methodology by consulting internet media, new informatory literature to bring innovation in their teaching methodology. The factor of personal characteristics of teachers’ job performance was given the third position among the four factors, thus teachers should give specific attention toward this factor by improving their personality characteristics such as use of easily understandable language, removal of potential blocks to communication, use of key vocabulary, use of different channels of communication to facilitate the students and xivalso speak clearly and vary the tone pitch and inflection of the voice to all areas of the classroom. In the light of above mentioned conclusions, it can be suggested that if teachers improve their performance on the four factors attitude toward students, subject mastery, teaching methodology and personal characteristics, a significant improvement can be made in teachers’ job performance. Due to few research studies conducted in Pakistan, there is a need to conduct more studies in this area in the future. The present study was conducted in the province of Punjab, the future researchers may expand it to other provinces of the country in order to measure the factors affecting the teachers’ job performance at national level. The present study was delimited to four factors only as attitude toward students, subject mastery, teaching methodology and personal characteristics, whereas the literature indicates a number of other factors such as the classroom environment, general mental ability, personality, relations with students, preparation and planning, effectiveness in presenting subject matters, relations with other staff, self improvement, relations with parents and community, poise, intellect, teaching techniques, interaction with students, motivational skills and fairness in grading etc.

تطوّر العقيدة الإلحادية فى المجتمعات الإسلامية والغير الإسلامية وإنعكاساتها فى الجوانب المختلفة للحياة الإنسانية (دراسة تحليلية من المنظور الإسلامي)

The science of Islamic belief had been considered most valuable discipline among other disciplines of knowledge as it played an important, rather pivotal role in the practical life. Qualitative research technique was used for the collection, analysis, and demonstration of data. The research had addressed the four major dimensions of the topic which particularly include Meanings of Atheism and its essential elements, Development of Atheism in Islamic and Un-Islamic societies and response of Muslim scholars, Reflections of Atheism in various aspects of human life, and Analysis of Atheism in Islamic Perspective. The systematic review of literature disclosed that Atheism in Islamic perspective included the denial of God, Prophet Hood and hereafter or any of these elements. Atheism had equally affected the Muslim and Non-Muslim societies by blowing the materialism into social, economic and political system. In this connection, Muslim scholars were divided into four types in terms of their response to Atheism which was discussed in detail in paper. Moreover, Atheism had also affected the individual as well as collective life. The author had critically analyzed the Atheism in Islamic perspective and presented the conclusion and recommendations at the end.

Kinetic Study and Reactor Simulation of Methycyclohexane Dehydrogenation Reaction for a Mobile Power Plant

Fossil fuels are a major contributor to the today’s world energy demand as well as greenhouse gases causing global warming. The idea to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels for a green future needs a stepwise transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources. Among the various renewable sources hydrogen is probably the most promising alternative due to its availability, high heating value per unit weight, and zero emissions. The only challenge associated with hydrogen is its safe and feasible storage. The methylcyclohexane-toluene-hydrogen (MTH) system is the one that is considered safe and economical option for hydrogen production, storage and transportation, and utilization. The dehydrogenation reaction of the MTH system is highly endothermic and requires considerable amount of heat energy at a fast rate to have high equilibrium conversions. The successful utilization of hydrogen economy based on the MTH system therefore requires a highly active, selective, and stable dehydrogenation catalyst with its associated reaction kinetics. An intensified dehydrogenation reactor design that supplies high rates of heat transfer to the catalyst bed is also desired. A comprehensive review of the literature regarding kinetics of the methylcyclohexane (MCH) dehydrogenation over Pt containing catalysts has revealed that there is no consensus among the researchers on describing the reaction mechanism, rate-determining step, and inhibition offered by a product. Different researchers have suggested different reaction chemistry and developed different kinetic rate equation. There is hardly a study on the design and simulation of an intensified dehydrogenation reactor that is capable of being used on commercial scale applications. In the present study, an attempt is made to address the discrepancies in the kinetics of the MCH dehydrogenation that exist in the literature. The experimental data of 5 different Pt containing catalysts over a wide range of operating conditions is used to conduct a detailed kinetic study of the dehydrogenation reaction. Various kinetic models are developed based on the power law, Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson (LHHW), and Horiuti-Polanyi reaction mechanism. The developed kinetic model equations are analyzed both kinetically and statistically and the best fitted kinetic model for each of the catalysts is worked out. The kinetic model based on single-site LHHW kinetics where loss of first hydrogen is the rate limiting step is found appropriate in representing the data of all the catalysts. This leads to report a unified kinetic model for the methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation reaction over any Pt containing catalyst. In addition to that, a new reaction mechanism called associative adsorption of methylcyclohexane is proposed and a kinetic model equation developed based on this mechanism is found successful in representing the relevant experimental data. A 2.0 MW power plant, working on the methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation reaction to yield hydrogen gas as fuel for the power production, is proposed and simulated in Aspen Hysys. The operating conditions such as stream flowrates, temperatures, pressures, and thermal efficiency are worked out. It is found that 17.4148 kmol/h methylcyclohexane are required to produce 2.0 MW net power output. Also, it is found that there is enough energy in the exhaust gases of the turbine that can carry out the dehydrogenation reaction. Using the best-fit kinetic model and the simulation data obtained for 2.0 MW power plant, a novel reactor-heat exchanger design is mathematically modeled and simulated. The proposed reactor configuration is found highly appropriate in carrying out the dehydrogenation reaction.
