Language use in academic discourse i.e. in classroom sessions and conference presentations is a controversial issue among linguists and academicians as they carry contrasting perspectives regarding use of language in academia. Some linguists believe that code-switching is an essential part of academic discourse while some other suggests that mutual intelligibility may not be possible if the learners switch their language during communication. The variation of the viewpoints creates a niche to explore the use of language in Pakistani classroom sessions and conference presentations. This study explores various purposes of code-switching in academic discourse including elucidation, giving instruction, translation, change/introduce the topic, asking question and building argument. Pakistan is a multi-lingual country and it has rich linguistic diversity where people use provincial and regional languages and medium of instruction in classrooms is a serious concern for academicians. Moreover, the study portrays present situation and describes future implications from students’ perspective.The second main objective of the study is to explore the contextual relevance, quantity of information and perspicuousness in academic discourse (classroom session and conference presentation). To conduct this study thirty classroom sessions and forty conference presentations were recorded and transcribed. Furthermore, this research highlights the issues related to contextual use of language, quantity of information and clarity of expression in academic discourse by giving examples of transcribed data. The findings reveal the purposes of code-switching and contextual uses of language in academic discourse with specific reference to pragmatic ideology. In the light of the findings of the current study I propose Relative Relevance Model of Communication which has potential to explore relevance and relative relevance in classroom sessions and conference presentations especially. Moreover, this model may also be employed on other genres in order to address pragmatic manifestations with special focus on relevance.

یہ خبر نہایت رنج و افسوس کے ساتھ درج کی جاتی ہے کہ ندوۃ العلماء کے مشہور سفیر و وکیل مولانا غلام محمد صاحب شملوی نے ۲۹؍ مارچ ۱۹۳۴؁ء کو وفات پائی، ندوۃ العلماء کے مقاصد کی اشاعت اور اس کے لیے مالی امدادوں اور چندوں کے حصول میں ان کی کوششیں بہت کامیاب تھیں، وہ جوانی میں تارک الدنیا فقیر ہوگئے تھے، اور جنگلوں میں رہتے تھے، ندوۃ العلماء کے ابتدائی اجلاسوں کے روحانی اثرات نے ان کو دوبارہ دنیا میں داخل کیا اور ندوۃ العلماء کی خدمت کا ایسا ولولہ ان میں پیدا کیا کہ مرتے دم تک سرد نہیں ہوا، وہ بڑے پرجوش مقرر، روشن خیال عالم اور صاحب عزم محنتی تھے، ندوہ کی خدمت میں انہوں نے ہندوستان کی گلی گلی کی خاک چھانی، اور ہر چھوٹے بڑے سے ملے، مدت سے ان کی صحت خراب تھی، وفات کے وقت ان کی عمر ستر کے قریب ہوگئی، تاہم ان میں ایسی ہمت تھی جو جوانوں کو شرماتی تھی، خدا مغفرت فرمائے۔

QUALITY OF LIFE AMONG PHYSICALLY DISABLED FEMALES IN BACKWARD AREAS OF PAKISTAN

Background and Aim: Social discrimination is one of the most fatal and important source of hindrance for women causing them depressed. The aim of this research study was to find important information on QOL of physically disabled women of backward areas (Triple discriminated population of Pakistan). Methodology: The current research was conducted at PRSP, D.I.Khan through Cross sectional survey. Sample size for current study was 300 and SF-36 was used to measure QOL. Data was analyzed by using SPSS 22. Results: The measured mean age of the sample was 27.07 ± 11.10 years. Only 22% of the participants were married. Only 10 3.3% of the participants, completed their tertiary education. The overall SF-36 score was 47.07 ± 12.78. the domains like Physical functioning was 41.33 ± 20.38, Role physical 31.66 ± 35.61, Body pain 74.77 ± 24.06, General health 44.91 ± 14.12, Energy/fatigue 43.16 ± 16.01, Social functioning 49.37 ± 19.80, Role emotional 30.77 ± 36.53, and Mental health 45.97 ± 13.71. This study shows that education has significant impact on the QOL. Conclusion: Physical disability has visible effects on quality of life of Female PWDs. In PWDs management, quality of life needs to be focused in Rehab program for more effective approach.

To get salvation in this world and in the world hereafter depends upon the belief in the doctrines of life presented by God Almighty. And to have access to these prescribed doctrines, one must be acquainted with Ilm-e-Kalam as it asserts true beliefs and rejects wrong ones. To understand Ilm-e-Kalam it is necessary to study the scholars of this field. Ustad Shaheed Murtaza Mutahari is one of the renowed philosophers, whose outstanding work in the form of numerous lectures and books proves his greatness and genius. So the given topic is the study of llm-e-Kalam in the light of Ustad Shaheed Murtaza Mutahari's thoughts. The thesis has been divided into six chapters. First chapter deals with the introduction of limitations of Mantiq (logic), the philosophy and its problems, and Ilm-e-Kalam and its evolution respectively. Second chapter analyses in detail the different branches of Kalam. Third chapter deals with the introduction of Shaheed Murtaza Mutahari, his education and his position as a scholar of Ilm-e-Kalam. Chapter four presents the views of Ustad Shaeed Murtaza Mutahari about Ilm-e-Kalam in detail. Chapter five shows how Ustad Shaheed Murtaza Mutahari has presented Islamic Doctrines related to various topics and Mutakalimeen. In chapter six Ustad Shaheed Murtaza Mutahari is compared to a few classic renowed scholars and to some modern ones to highlight his role in reconstruction of Ilm-e-Kalam. At the end, conclusions and suggestions are presented.
