Intellectual property laws play a significant role in making industrial, trade and financial policies. Their performance in scientific and technological development of any country cannot be ignored. IP laws help in flowering the knowledge stock of a country. They guarantee the development in varied fields. However, alongside strong intellectual property laws, there should be an effective implementation mechanism, as without implementation there is no enjoyment of intellectual property rights. The powerful, unprejudiced and effective IP laws implementation attracts innovation and new investment whereas the weak implementation of intellectual property laws promotes piracy and counterfeiting and consequently acts as a major barrier to investment in R&D, employment, trade and overall growth of a country’s economy. This is unfortunately the case with the IP laws implementation in Pakistan. This study seeks to know whether strict IP laws implementation in Pakistan can indeed spur socio-economic growth. To answer this question, the research utilizes crosscountry data of 20 countries. The results reveal that strong linkage exists between implementation of IP laws and socio-economic growth. But this linkage is greater powerful in countries with strong IP laws implementation mechanism. This study points out impediments in the implementation of IP laws in Pakistan. The research concludes by putting forward recommendations and suggestions for the strict implementation of IP laws in Pakistan.

Authoritative Position of Investor and Scope of Liability in Modarabah Contract: Classical and Contemporary Jurists Perspective

The position of investor is always questioned once capital is handed over to a working partner (Mudarib). The concerns of investor along with series of liabilities cannot be ignored because Modarabah losses are always transferred or born by him/her. The study highlights the authoritative position of Investor and suggests that investor has full access to impose conditions on Mudarib to safeguard his interest as per shariah rulings. The study debates investor’s position to impose geographical restrictions to restrict the scope of trade, trade policy of working partner (Mudarib) and fixation of time.  Besides, the study discourses the concept of limited liability in context of Islamic law where creditors hold right to personal wealth of the debtors.

Vulnerability to Emotional Disturbances in Father of Neurotic and Psychotic Children

In the present research the difference of anxiety and depression level of the fathers of neurotic and psychotic children was studied. In order to find out the level of anxiety and depression among fathers of neurotic and psychotic children, IPAT anxiety Scale and IPAT Depression Scale were used followed by an interview to obtain information and history from them. Three hundred fathers participated in the study. Hundred fathers have neurotic children , hundred had psychotic children and hundred had normal children. A chi-square test was computed for the statistical analysis of data. Hypothesis No 5 when calculated for Statistical significance on the sample of 100 subjects in each group i.e. fathers of neurotic and psychotic children rendereda X^2 of 3.26 which made it insignificant by the fraction of difference as the X^2 of 3.84 is required to make it significant at the level of P<.05. It was then decided to increase the data by 20 subjects in each group to find out the Statistical significance as expected the X^2 with the increased data was significant at .05 level. It was concluded that the fathers of neurotic children have high sten scores on anxiety and depression than the fathers of psychotic children. Moreover anxiety sten scores were higher than the depression sten scores comparatively.
