The concept of personal growth is highly important for human welfare. According to Jungian model of human development, personal growth and maturity refers to the search for completion which is universal, cross-cultural, and spiritual (Freeman, 2006). Using holistic approach, the question of the personal growth and maturity in relation to psycho-spiritual wellbeing has been explored in the sample of 500 adult population of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. The sample was composed of 262 men (52.4%) and 238 women (47.6%), whose age ranged from 17 to 47 with the mean age of 26.05 ± 6.381. The personal growth was gauged through the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator (Pearson, 2002). Spiritual Wellbeing Scale by Paloutzian and Ellison (1991) was used to measure existential and religious wellbeing which was supplemented with Subjective-Psychological Wellbeing Scale of Diener and Biswas-Diener (2008). Later, the two scales were validated against the Islamic Religiosity Scale (Khan, 2006) and Depression Anxiety and Stress respectively. The results were discussed in terms of hypotheses involving the meditating role of archetypes in psychological maturity and psycho-spiritual wellbeing. The evidence implicating psychological maturity in the determining of religiosity, spirituality and wellbeing was compelling. All of the main and most of the secondary predictions were confirmed. Multiple comparisons showed significant relationship of psychological maturity with age, gender and early life experiences of the respondents, F (2, n=500), 127.686, p<.01.; X2 (2, n=500) 33.476, p<.01.; and X2 = (9, n=500) 125.46, p<.01., respectively. As predicted, it was discovered that psychologically mature respondents obtained higher scores on all measures of subjective-psychological and spiritual wellbeing. Spiritual poverty apparently resulted when a respondent’s major identification was with the lower levels of ego and soul. Moreover, neurotic tendencies significantly reduced with psychological maturity and religious participation. As such these results confirm the importance of psychological maturity on psycho-spiritual wellbeing. ii

آنحضرت ﷺ کے نکاح میں آنے سے قبل آپ ﷺ کے متبنیٰ بیٹے زید بن حارثہ کے عقد میں تھی ۔ وہ آنحضرت ﷺ کی پھوپھی زاد بہن تھی ۔اس وقت عرب معاشرہ میں دستور تھا کہ غلاموں سے مناکحت کو باعث ننگ و عار سمجھتے تھے ، یہی وجہ ہے کہ جب آنحضرت ﷺ نے سیدہ زینب ؓ کو اپنے غلام زید بن حارثہ ؓسے شادی کرنے کا پیغام دیا تو زینب ؓ اور ان کے بھائی عبداللہ بن جحش ؓ نے صاف انکار کردیا ۔ اس پر یہ آیت نازل ہوئی ۔’’ وماکان لمومن ولا مومنۃ اذاقضی ٰ اللہ و رسولہ امرا ان یکون لھم الخیرہ من امر ھم و من یعص اللہ و رسولہ فقد ضل ضلا لاََمبینا ‘‘۔ اس آیت میں مومن سے عبداللہ بن جحش ؓ اور مومنہ سے زینب ؓ مراد ہیں ۔ مطلب یہ ہے کہ کسی مومن اور مومنہ کے لیے یہ زیبا نہیں کہ جب اللہ اور اس کا رسول کوئی فیصلہ دے دے تو ان کو اپنے معاملہ میں کوئی اختیار رہے اور جس نے اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی نافرمانی کی بلا شبہ کھلی گمراہی میں مبتلا ہوا ۔اس لیے اس آیت کے نزول پر دونوں بہن بھائی راضی ہو گئے اور بحکم خدا وندی حضرت زینب ؓ کا نکاح حضرت زید ؓ سے ہو گیا ۔ شادی تو ہو گئی مگر لڑائی ہوتی رہتی جس سے زید ؓ آنحضرت ﷺ سے اس معاملہ کی شکایت کرتے اور عرض کرتے کہ میں زینب ؓ کو چھوڑ دیتا ہوں لیکن آپﷺ اسے...

Identification Characterization and Bioevaluation of Polyphenols from Martynia Annua Linn.

Martynia annua L. is a medicinal plant found local to sub-continent where it is consumed for self-treatment of various diseases and ailments. The objectives of this study were to analyze different extracts of plant parts using untargeted and targeted metabolic profiling, identification/quantitation of selected compounds and evaluation of antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of all plant part’s extracts. A validated LC-MS/MS method was used for untargeted and targeted analysis of a range of extracts from the plant. Individual plant metabolites were identified/quantified by comparison with authentic standards, published fragmentation profiles and online database matching. For antioxidant activity, three different assays were used. Tetrazolium reduction method was employed to evaluate cytotoxic activity. A total of 89 compounds were identified and their relative abundances were estimated across five separate parts of the plant (leaves, stem, fruits, flowers and roots).Sixteen of these compounds were identified by comparison with authentic standards and were subsequently ascertained in all plant parts. The identity of 18 glycosides compounds were determined by deduction engaging accurate mass, isotope pattern and experimental collision induced dissociation fragmentation spectra. Fifty five compounds were identified putatively by matching with HMDB (Human Metabolome Database). A number of compounds identified at higher abundance which include: homovanilic acid, syringic acid, trans-ferulic acid, apigenin, luteolin, hispidulin and isorhamnetin have biological properties and also estimated their concentration and independently determined biotherapeutic properties. The plant extracts showed significant antioxidant and cytotoxic activity. These findings significantly extend the plant metabolites identified in the Martynia annua. These results anticipate a biochemical support for future studies addressing bio-therapeutic potential of this plant.
