Fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) having economic importance because of pest attacking throughout the world on various fruits and vegetables. The genus of fruit flies; Bactrocera are serious pests of fruits and vegetables, hence the studies were carried out to find out the level of fruit fly infestation, comparison of fruit fly attractants and molecular identification of fruit fly species in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The trials were laid out in randomized complete block design, replicated three times on various fruits and vegetables in KP during 2010 and 2011. The experimental studies were carried out on Guava at Kohat, Peach at Swat and Bitter gourd at Charsada. The data of infestation were recorded on counting healthy and infested fruits and vegetable randomly. Findings of the study showed that fruit fly infestation gradually gained from mid April and reached to its peaks in mid August and then dropped till mid November in Guava orchards. In case of Peach orchards, fruit fly infestation varied during the study periods in both the years (2010 & 2011). The infestation increased from mid April and gained its peaks in August and thereafter started declined till October. In similar way, fruit flies infestation in Bitter gourd at Charsada reached to highest percentage in months of August, drastically decreased and the lowest records were in the month of November. It was concluded that the presence of fruit fly was recorded in all the three orchards throughout their crop seasons and this window is considered a critical one in the management of fruit fly. The findings of three different attractants i.e, Methyl eugenol (M.E), Cue lure (C.L) and PPr-Product (locally made protein/yeast autolysate based) showed that significant variation for the captured of fruit flies among attractants and observational dates in Guava, Peach and Bitter gourd orchards. M.E trapped more fruit flies as compared PPr-Product and C.L traps in Guava and Peach orchards whereas higher number of fruit flies was captured by PPr-Product as compared to both C.L and M.E traps in Bitter gourd orchards. Higher capture of Bactrocera zonata and Bactrocera dorsalis in Guava and Peach orchards was recorded by M. E whereas C.L attracted more Bactrocera. cucuribitae as compared to M.E traps for Peach, Guava and Bitter gourd orchards. More number B. zonata and B. dorsalis captured by PPr-Product in Bitter gourd. The PPr-Product traps were found more effective against all three types of female adults flies whereas M.E traps captured more B. zonata and B. dorsalis while C.L captured more male adults of B. cucurbitae in xiPeach, Bitter gourd and Guava orchards. For molecular analysis of five major Tephritids fruit fly species (B. zonata, B. dorsalis, B. cucurbitae, Bactrocera tau and Myiopardalis pardalin) the mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase (COI) gene was amplified using primers previously described for the conserved region and the amplified products were subjected to RFLP analysis and sequencing. Analysis of the PCR-RFLP profile of COI gene using primers LCOI and HCOI and restriction enzymes (PstI, HincII, HaeIII, BamHI and SspI) revealed that the five different restriction enzymes could efficiently differentiate among the Five (05) major fruit fly species analyzed in this study. Furthermore, sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of fruit fly species based upon the COI gene revealed species-specific distinct evolutionary trends.

اردو شاعری کا ایک  اہم پہلو قدرتی  مظاہر و مناظر  کی تصویر کشی  ہے ۔ ایک طرف  شاعر کی اندرونی  کیفیت  ہوتی ہے اور دوسری طرف وسیع و عریض  کائنات اور اس کے بکھرے ہوئے حسین  قدرتی  مظاہر کا منظر ہوتا ہے۔اردو ادب کے  بہت سارے مشاہیر نے   فطرت نگاری کو اپنی شاعری کا موضوع بنایا ہے۔ ان کے ہاں  فطرت کے حسن کا ذکر ملتا ہے۔ جن قدرتی  اشیاء کا تذکرہ کرتے ہیں ان میں اپنی دلی کیفیات کا رنگ بھر دیتے ہیں۔ فطرت نگاری میں شاعر اپنی  دلی کیفیات و محسوسات  کو قدرتی نظاروں سے  ہم آہنگ کرتا ہے۔ عصر حاضر میں پیسے کی دوڑ  اور  صنعتی انقلاب  نے کائنات کے  حسین مناظر کو  شدید خطرے سے دوچار  کر دیا ہے۔

زمین پر بڑھتی ہوئی  آلودگی  کا انسان  ، جانداروں اورماحول پر نقصان دہ اثر پڑرہاہے۔اس کی بڑی وجہ قدرتی عناصر کا غیر دانشمندانہ استعمال ہے۔ اس لیے قدرتی وسائل  میں انسان کی مداخلت  کو کم کرنا اور روک تھام  کے لئے کردار ادا کرنا وقت کی اہم  ضرورت ہے۔زمین کی آلودگی نہ صرف انسانوں کی صحت کے لئے خطرناک ہے بلکہ موجودہ  دور میں سرمایہ دارانہ فکر کا حامل انسان معاشی خوشحالی کے چکر میں نسل انسانی کے ساتھ ساتھ  کرہ  ارض پر پائی جانے والی  دیگر مخلوقات    کو بھی  بری طرح متاثر  کررہا ہے۔  بہت سارے  مشاہیر نے اپنی شاعری میں  قدرتی عناصر کے استحصال  اور ماحولیاتی آلودگی کی مذمت کی ہے۔ اردو ادب کے مشاہیرکا  اس قومی وانسانی خدمت  اور قدرتی مظاہر سے محبت کو اجاگر کرنے کی ضرورت ہے۔

Ethical and Moral Issues in Undergraduate Medical Education: An Exploratory Study

Background: Ethical and moral values form the basis of the environment in any academic institution. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the ethical and moral issues faced by medical students during their undergraduate medical education in Pakistan. Methods: This qualitative exploratory study was conducted at ABWA Medical College, Faisalabad. It included thirteen semi-structured, one-to-one interviews of volunteering undergraduate medical students of Punjab, Pakistan, from September 2021 to February 2022. The interview invitation was sent electronically to social media groups. Member checking of transcribed interviews was done, and data were analyzed thematically using Atlas-ti software by two independent researchers. Results: Thematic data analysis led to the formation of 28 codes, 13 subthemes, and 3 main themes. Based on the social constructive approach, three main themes were categorized into ethical issues in (1) academic, (2) social, and (3) clinical contexts. Conclusions: The results showed that undergraduate medical students face a myriad of ethical and moral disruptions during their undergraduate study period at medical college. Much awareness about identifying and dealing with such issues is recommended to bring more quality to the program.

Causes and Remedies of Social Exclusion of Students With Hearing Impairment

The main purpose of this study was to identify the causes of social exclusion of students with hearing impairment with reference to home and school. An intensive review of literature covered related topics such as characteristics of social exclusion, dimensions of social exclusion, different models of social exclusion, marginalized children in Pakistan and initiatives taken by government, and the role NGOs and INGOs in promoting and implementing inclusive education in Pakistan. On the basis of literature review, a model was proposed to measure social exclusion; this linear model addressed two major sources of social exclusion (Home environment and School environment). Two Likert scales and one questionnaire was developed, one for students, one for teachers and one for parents of students with hearing impairment. A panel of experts assessed the validity of the instruments. All three were then pilot tested. A sample of students (n=560) studying in the classes 6-10 from seven divisions of Punjab, their teachers (n=250) and parents (n=250) were selected through convenient sampling. The data collected from students with hearing impairment, parents and teachers were analysized. On the basis of data analysis, major causes of social exclusions were identified related to home and school. Researcher proposed remedies in second part of data analysis to overcome the factors causing social exclusion in home and school. The plan of remedies was sent to a panel of experts for its validation. It was finalized on the basis of qualitative feed back of experts.
