The Banach contraction principle states that a contraction on a complete metric space has a unique fixed point and its proof hinges on "Picard iterations". This principle is applicable to a variety of subjects such as integral equations, partial differential equations and engineering of image processing. This principle fails for nonexpansive mappings on a Banach space. Mann [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 4(1953), 506-510] introduced an iterative scheme to approximate fixed points of a nonexpansive mapping on a Banach space. Mann scheme is inadequate for the approximation of fixed points of pseudocontractive mappings even on a Hilbert space. Consequently, Ishikawa [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 44 (1974), 147-150] upgraded Mann iterative scheme which is extensively used to approximate common fixed points of nonlinear mappings including nonexpansive mappings. The purpose of this dissertation is two-fold: (i) To prove the existence of fixed point for the classes of nonlinear mappings, namely generalized nonexpansive mappings and generalized quasi- contractive mappings in the setting of uniformly convex metric spaces. (ii) To establish approximate fixed point property for the classes of nonlinear mappings, namely generalized nonexpansive mappings, asymptotically nonexpansive mappings and generalized quasi-contractive mappings in the setting of (uniformly / strictly) convex metric spaces and cone metric type spaces. The approximation of fixed points is obtained by using appropriate iterative schemes; for example, the averaged iteration scheme, Ishikawa iteration scheme, multi-step iterative scheme, three-step explicit iterative scheme and Jungck three-step implicit iterative scheme. The strong convergence analysis of different iterative schemes contribute significantly in metric fixed point theory of nonlinear mappings. Most of the results presented here are new in the setting of a metric space and are: (a) established with the limited set of conditions on the control parameters (b) supported by real world applications, such as the existence of a solution for the first order periodic boundary value problem and the existence of a solution for an implicit integral equation.

قیام امن کے لئےخواجہ عبید اللہ ملتانی کے صوفیانہ اسلوب تبلیغ کی عصری معنویت: تجزیاتی مطالعہ

Khawājah Obāidullah Multānī’s Mystical Pattern of Preaching in Establishing Peace and Harmony and Its Contemporary Meaningfulness: An Analytical Study A Sufi, literally practically in denotation and connotation is such a figure whose heart is naturally and habitually free of pollution of pride, prejudice, sectarianism, ethnicity, linguicism, and hatred for animate and inanimate things on any ground. This purity of sentiments and sanctity of thoughts of Sufis of Islam have always influenced not only the morality of the Muslims but also attracted the people of anti-Islamic faiths. Human history in general and Islamic history, in particular, is replete with such instances as prove that where logistics and warring tactics of the Muslims failed to produce any positive and healthy effects, these were the unseen swords of Sufis' unmatched conduct and exceedingly supreme love for humanity which bore results of ever-lasting magnitude. Due to the safe and unbiased style of the preaching of Sufis of Islam, foes became friends, twisted pathways became straight high ways of peace and prosperity, the grieved became happy, the downtrodden became the champions and the rejected ones became the accepted ones. Sufis have always been the torchlight and beacon-house equally for the believers and the non-believers. Sufis’ preaching style has been the epitome of the style of Prophet of Islam.

Imaging of Biological Tissues Using Diffuse Reflectance and Optical Coherence Tomography

The objective of this work was to investigate optical diffuse reflectance (ODR) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) being an emerging technology in optical diagnostics. Both methodologies were implemented for measurements of optical properties and glucose levels respectively in biological tissues. The reduced scattering, absorption and total attenuation coefficients for rat‟s liver have been determined by using Mie-scattering theory, diffusion approximation equation and linear fitting to the normalized intensity. These optical parameters for normal and thermally coagulated chicken liver in the near infra red region were obtained by using Kubelka Munk Model (KMM) in correlation with diffuse reflectance. The results show a significant increase in these parameters after coagulation. Monte Carlo simulation for these results validates the experimental measurements. These optical parameters provide a base for extension of the work towards glucose monitoring in blood present in the blood vessels underneath skin. A subclass of OCT called swept source, SS-OCT was used in measurements of glucose levels in liquid phantoms and blood by analyzing temporal dynamics of scattered light. Brownian motion of the scatterers (polystyrene microspheres in phantoms and red blood cells in blood) is affected due to presence of glucose as measured by SS-OCT. The temporal analysis of Brownian motion statistics yielded the translational diffusion coefficient and viscosity of non-flowing and flowing fluids that were observed in good agreement with literature. The increase in glucose concentrations deformed red blood cells and caused rouleaux formations that were confirmed by imaging with inverted microscopes. The OCT method was successfully implemented for in vivo case scenario to obtain the translational diffusion coefficient in blood vessels. In case of in vivo application, speckle variance (SV)-OCT was used to obtain three dimensional high resolution cross- sectional imaging of blood vessels. This may be used to observe the blood viscosity modulation based changes in blood vasculatures. OCT probes for percutaneous coronary microstructures imaging have been discussed to be used for SV-OCT or Doppler OCT. This phantom and blood OCT study demonstrates the technique‟s ability to detect and quantify glucose presence in non-flowing and flowing liquid suspensions, and potential for in-vivo applications.
