The present study highlights the possibility of using wastewater for forest irrigation. This study was conducted in 2 phases, first phase was the seed germination study of the five selected species and the second phase was of growth of plants through pot experiment. Five tree species selected for the study were, Dalbergia sissoo Roxb., Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth, Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre, Bauhinia purpurea L. and Millettia peguensis Ali. Three types of wastewater were collected, first from industrial wastewater (IWW), second from hospital wastewater (HWW) and third from domestic wastewater (DWW). Germination experiment was set up in Petri dishes and seeds were irrigated with different concentrations of WWs. In pot experiment the five tree species were planted in pots and were irrigated with 5 different concentrations (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%) of WWs. Germination study results revealed that the five plant species survived in the WW irrigation and showed sufficient tolerance. The maximum germination was of Dalbergia sissoo i.e. 74%. The toxicity of different WWs is as follows: IWW > HWW > DWW The mean time to germination of Millettia peguensis was 95 hrs and of Albizia lebbeck was 80 hrs. Similarly, all the five species showed positive increase in seedling fresh weight, dry weight and seedling length. Maximum fresh weight was observed in Dalbergia sissoo (0.64 g) and the lowest fresh weight was reported in Millettia peguensis (0.35). The order of tolerance index and vigor index among the five species is as follows; Dalbergia sissoo > Albizia lebbeck > Bauhinia purpurea > Pongamia pinnata > Millettia peguensis In pot experiment, the DWW showed positive impact on height, fresh and dry weight, where as, the HWW showed positive impact on height upto 50% concentration and the further increase in concentration decreased the height. The maximum negative impact was observed with IWW irrigation. Pongamia pinnata showed 90% increase xiii in height in DWW compared to control set up. Albizia lebbeck showed 35% increase in fresh weight, 45% increase in fresh weight by Dalbergia sissoo. The photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate and stomatal conductance of all the five species decreased significantly. In HWW the decrease in photosynthetic rate was as follows; Pongamia pinnata (-80%), Albizia lebbeck (-60%), Dalbergia sissoo (-45%), Millettia peguensis (-45%) and Bauhinia purpurea (-58%). The proline content in all treatments was measured as a sign of oxidative stress. Maximum proline was observed in Bauhinia purpurea (6.33) in IWW, where as the least quantity of proline was observed in Pongamia pinnata (3.89). The metal uptake and translocation results are also very promising. Maximum uptake was observed for Pb in IWW by Dalbergia sissoo (107.06 mg/day). Uptake of Cr and Cu uptake was slow in all species. Translocation factor of Albizia lebbeck was maximum i.e. 3.03 in HWW. Untreated IWW seems to create number of problems in ecosystem by disturbing both biotic and abiotic (soil properties, soil osmotic potential) components. This study seems to be successful in combating wastewater problem. This study indicates that, Dalbergia sissoo, Albizia lebbeck, Bauhinia purpurea, Pongamia pinnata and Millettia peguensis are much tolerant in IWW and can be successfully used for phytoextraction processes. The tolerance index is as follows: Dalbergia sissoo > Albizia lebbeck > Bauhinia purpurea > Pongamia pinnata > Millettia peguensis The idea is to utilize WW to generate urban forests with the said five species. This idea can reduce multiple and serious problems like, IWW toxicity, WW treatment, and air pollution through urban forestry. The most prominent benefit is that this urban forest is eco-friendly and sustainable solution for multiple problems.

Impacts Of Mirza Dagh’s Nautiya Style On Iqbal’s Poetry

The linguist poet of the ambassador of Dehli literary society, Nwab Mirza Khan Dagh does not need any preamble. Iqbal accepted some artistic impacts of Mirza Dagh.He is a romantic poet but he was also effected by revolution of 1857.He narrated the cultural defeat in his poetry. We also can find the cultural defeat in Iqbal’s poetry as well. Iqbal paid tribute to Mirza Dagh at his death with deep grief and in an impressive way. As an artist, the use of developed language precision continuity and idiomatic phrases is Dagh’s distinctive style, the same style of Mirza Dagh is also available in his Nautiya poetry. Although it is not recognition of Dagh but his style is striking researchable. We can also come across the technical effects of his Nautiya style in Iqbal’s poetry. Iqbal has also saluted to his artistic climax. In this article the effort has been accomplished to explain Mirza Dagh’s impacts on Iqbal Keywords: Allama Iqbal, Mirza Dagh, Na‘at, poetry Praise of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Esd Literacy-Based Model for Preservice Elementary Teachers: A Focus on Critical and Environmental Consciousness and Effective Teacher Development

The study investigated the status of ESD in teacher education of Pakistan; sustainability consciousness (an outcome of ESD) of the preservice teachers; and usefulness of ESD literacy-based pedagogical model with the preservice teachers.Such an investigation was undertaken in order to inform implementation of ESD in teacher education in Pakistan. Moreover, the study aimed at contributing towards knowledge on ESD pedagogies; ESD outcomes; and ESD-integration in university courses. The main focus of the study was on developing an ESD literacy-based pedagogical model and investigating its usefulness with the preservice teachers. Usefulness of the model was studied in terms of change in preservice teachers’ sustainability consciousness and their teaching practice as ESD pedagogues. Pedagogical model developed in the study was rooted in the transformative learning theory. To study the usefulness of the pedagogical model, action research was designed. The study employed a wide range of methods to gather data. To identify the status of ESD in teacher education in Pakistan, content analysis of the teacher education curriculum and policy documents was done in terms of ESD content, ESD processes and ESD learning. The documents included in the analysis were National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST); National Standards for Accreditation of Teacher Education Programmes (NSATEP); and curriculum for B.Ed. (Honours) Elementary Programme. All these documents were prepared during the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014). Findings from the content analysis indicate that though some aspects of ESD-learning and ESD-processes have been included in the NPST and the NSATEP, there is no key standard on ESD in both documents. Similarly, in the B.Ed. (Honours) curriculum some courses have included ESD content and processes but there is no standalone course on ESD. Sustainability consciousness of the preservice teachers was investigated by adapting a survey tool developed by a group of xvii Canadian researchers (Michalos et al., 2015). Data were gathered from 207 students (preservice teachers) studying in the final year of the B.Ed. (Honours) Elementary Programme. Mean scores of the study respondents on the scale measuring sustainability consciousness were found significantly lower than the expected score. Moreover, they were significantly lower than that of upper secondary Swedish students. To study the usefulness of the pedagogical model (developed in the study), data were collected through pre-test, post-test, observation, participants’ written reflections and interviews. The findings showed that the pedagogical model i.e. Pedagogy of Sustainability Education in Teacher Education (PSETE) was useful in enhancing sustainability consciousness of the preservice teachers. However, it was only partially useful in transforming preservice teachers into ESD-pedagogues. ESD is a key field in the post-2015 development agenda, thus the findings of the current study may be used by Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO to help the concerned institutions to mainstream ESD in teacher education because mere addition or integration of ESD in some of the courses is not enough to transform preservice teachers as ESD pedagogues. Study findings may be used by the teacher educators to integrate ESD in their courses.
